Has anyone else here ever felt dismissed by their doctor? Or heard of a similar story? Any ideas of how people can be better self advocates if they are in this situation? Please comment below, would love to hear your thoughts! 👇

I've finished going through exactly this just now. I'm in Brazil where the whole health plan part is quite different but I've also been thrown back and forth between different doctors and missdiagnosis. What really changed things for me was stopping to listen to my regular and go straight to an oncologist. I was a rather heavy smoker until July this year. I quit but I got this little cough and lost my voice. Over the course of about 6 weeks I heard it was gastro reflux, it was sinusitis, it was bronchitis. I had a thorax X-Ray done and they *missed* the tumor. The only good that came out of all this was getting a CT done. When I got the report of that CT I ran it through ChatGPT where I learned it could be much worse. I went straight to an oncologist and that really put things into motion: That was 1 month ago. I'm seeing my oncologist tomorrow to discuss the treatment plan. One thing I noticed is that at least my oncologist doesn't necessarily think highly of regular doctors. Early detection is our strongest weapon in this fight while these oncologist keep getting patients that could have been treated much much earlier.

It’s the “normal” story, it’s so sad. I do believe it will change someday. I just hope it’s someday soon. Thank you for listening and for being here ☺️
