Nick Folingo has shown himself time and time again, both on and off the ice, that he is the right choice to be the Blackhawks captain.

Poor Foligno's numbers suffered with Bedard in the lineup. Bedard refuses to play a two-way game and leaves his linemates playing shorthanded.
@Borodin410Ай бұрын
Bedard is a bust. The worst defensive liability in the modern era of hockey. The worst +/- of any rookie in the last 30 years. Worse even than rookies in the 1980s when everyone had blown out stats. In the three decades since then, other rookies have played on worse teams, like Hossa in Ottawa, or Kovalchuk in Atlanta, and done far better. Dickinson played on the same team and was a +5. 18-year-olds playing on poor teams last year, like Benson and Fantilli, did far better than Bedard. No excuses. Dude is just out to pad his stats.

If you watched the Hawks last season - and I did with the exception of 3-4 games - this is absolutely the right move. Foligno was a stud, blue collar player and an outstanding leader. He and Dickinson have selflessly stepped up to provide leadership and mentoring. Let Bedard have a year or two more to keep getting better and then it’s all his. Love the move.
@WalkableBulb905Ай бұрын
I love it when teams do this. Gives it to someone who's a clear leader and doesn't just give it their best player. Winnipeg is another good example of that
@gypsypunk333Ай бұрын
This is exactly why I liked the Foligno move from the beginning. His was always going to be a leadership role for the young guns, so I'm glad they made it official. Feeling very good about the future of this team!

Wishing Joshua a speedy recovery🙏🏼 Super classy statement he put out there.

Totally. He'd do well by reaching out to the human donut Phil Kessel, who went through this same thing at a young age (and also added the same sort of message/encouragement to get checked out).

It's sad that the Toews/Kane era is over, but having Uncle Fliggy help us transition into the next era is making it a bit easier.

Good move by the Blackhawks. Too many people are in the odd mentality that the Captaincy should automatically go to the most skilled player. That is absolutely the wrong way to do it. Leadership is about mentality, attitude, and character. Of course, the Captain needs to be skilled enough to lead by example, but giving the C just because a guy is highly talented is missing the point. This way, Bedard gets a chance to continue to mature and grow into himself, and he will get the C once he's ready.

Ah yes, the Hoffman-Kulak connection. Good for at least -25 each at 4th line and 3rd pair minutes
@IcarusLPАй бұрын
I definitely think it’s the right call. Bedard is under enough pressure and scrutiny as is. If he focuses on playing and improving his game, he’s gonna be one of the best of all time.

@@BarDownBoys They take the media pressure, they provide guidance in the locker room, and know how to deal with officials. Sometimes it's merely symbolic, but the good captains are the guys who set an example on the ice, Foligno is one of the most consistent hard working players in the NHL. He works in the locker room, and helps in blending the team. Even in house league as a kid, it showed, they may not be the loudest player, but they set the example, on and off the ice.

Idk. To me, your captain should probably have the ability to make the majority of rosters in the NHL. Foligno might be able to make the Sharks and Blue Jackets... But could he make anyone else at this stage of his career? Probably not.
@20thCenturyManTradАй бұрын
He's a decent bottom sixer on any team. That's all you need, his game is not purely on the offensive side, he's a decent checker, and can still put up a few points. The key thing is, he brings it every night and every shift, and we know he provides a good example off the ice. So he's the right kind of guy for that team.
