It's really not that crazy expensive to play minor... it's just really expensive to play AAA and to get elite level training. Honestly you just have to make your kid a priority over everything else and really that's just if they have a different level of talent. If you have to push to get your kid on teams then you shouldn't be wasting the money. He should be playing minor if that's the case, which most everyone can comfortably afford... just my opinion anyways

You're missing the key point with bringing up his plus minus like it's some sort of gotcha: HE WAS PLAYING FOR THE SHARKS! Not even the greatest hall of famers can carry that lifeless sharks team. Hockey is a team sport and using plus minus in any cumulative sense is irrelevant.

I think adding a "Best defensive defenseman" trophy would help shine a light on players who deserve so much more recognition. The same way I'd argue adding the Selke probably helped a lot guys like Gainey and Carbonneau making it to the hall, as will happen with Bergeron

It's wild to watch how much goalie pad size has grown, which is obviously good that goalies can take a 100 mph shot to the sternum and not be dead, but man, goalie pads looked 50% easier to shoot past pre 1980s.

In my opinion, it is less about the young talents but a change in the game. You mentioned it. Going from a very physical hits to the head and trap game to now very fast with position rotation game. The defensemen are more involved and take way more shots.

I grew up in NY during the heyday of the NY Rangers in the mid to late 90s. During that time, hockey was huge in NY. My HS had 2 freshman teams, a JV team and a Varsity team. Now, the team had to merge with another HS to have enough kids to fill out teams. The sport has certainly lost in popularity, in large part due to a shift to lacrosse, probably due to cost.

From the footage I've seen they are great. However, because he dominates entire games offensively, it's hard to get a proper gauge. But considering his size, skating, puck skills, and hockey IQ. He still projects as an above average defender given his toolset.

within a minute, and he's said like three lies. the single reason Matthews had an interest in hockey had zero to do with Gretzky going south, of which he wasn't even born when Gretzky retired, or even Arizona having a team, it was because of his late uncle. There also wasn't a significant uptick in hockey registration because of McDavid, in fact, numbers have been going down. Maybe do just a touch of research before making a video.

It's all relative my man. He was the best of the best back then, of course hockey has evolved. You can't really say he was overrated at the time. Of course if McDavid/Crosby/Ovechkin took a time machine, they would absolutely dominate. It's really a moot point, and you can say the same about pretty much any sport. Imagine prime Tiger Woods going back to the days of wooden clubs and shorter courses.
