One of the best songs I've ever heard. This song will always be legendary, with one of the most talented bands ever featuring the legend Steve Vai himself.

The 'ek ek' sound at 10:55 is Steve tapping his pick on the string beyond the fretboard.

You gotta catch the high E right above the bridge pickup with the edge of your pick to get that D pitch "eek".

he also uses a digitech whammy with a high octave on the pedal push and a low octave on the footswitch iirc, not sure if he uses it to make the sound higher

Everything Polyphia has done has been leading up to this song. All the practice playing and composing plus surely being inspired by "We're writing a song for one of the all time greats to join in on -- time to lean on everything that's ever worked over the last 10 years". This is one of the best songs in mankind's history.

Have fun on your Polyphia rabbit hole dive. They only make bangers. Maybe Playing God or Neurotica next?

great reaction, cheers. If this does not win a grammy, then grammy awards should be stopped. Vai olredi has 3, he does not need anymore, this is the best constructed track i have heard since zeps stairway. Oh and then Vai kicks in and tips hat that he didn't shred like he can, he played it perfect. there's a good video of the band talking with Steve and i think it was Tim Henson who said that they didn;t know how to write down what vai was doing. this song is FLAWLESS, This is how it's done folks.

You're in for a treat if you explore their catalogue. So many tasty hooks blended with trap beats and bananas production.

One of my fav reactions to this and I've watched like 50 of them. Maybe because it was kind of my thought process on my first listen to this too.

As a guitarist, I can confirm that number of guitar strings is absolutely a sign of status. Most of us start on just one or two. I am hoping to earn my seventh in the next few years. These guys could probably qualify for 20 or 30.

that guitar in the beginning is acoustic, it's a nylon string opposed to traditional steel string accoustics. it's equipped with piezo pickups, so it's plugged in to capture the sound, but it's still an acoustic. the sound hole is on the top, pointed at the player's face. your comment about 'is it a bass?' makes sense, because they're finger plucking for much of the song, a common playing style with bassists. the guitars are just tuned very low - to A standard - that on a clean tone it sounds similar to bass. their 7th string, the lowest, is the same note as a 4 string bass's 3rd string. having three guitars isn't uncommon, actually in this kind of music it's very common to have at least three guitars in the recording - one each for left and right rhythm, and one dead center for lead

The horns are by BrassTracks who are featured on another song in the upcoming album. If you want to understand how this song was written in detail, listen to the band talking with Steve Vai in this amazing video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3ympHh6jNFjr9U

Jaw dropped alternating with smiles and almost painful extended stank face- Dumbfounded I was as well the first time I experienced- I’ve watched over 50 times now and was f’kn great to relive the first with your most excellent honest reaction. Curious what instrumental music you used to listen to, since I’ve always gravitated to non-vocal 🎶- 🙏🏼 🤘🏼🎧 🤟🏼

Scottie's approach is more straightforward. But his skill level is every bit as high as Tim's. There's parts Scottie does in other songs Tim can't play. I'm sure he could if he ran through them. They both respect the hell out of each other. Tim even said Scottie is the future of what can be done with bending. They're both fantastic. They just approach the guitar differently. I actually prefer Scottie because it's more approachable and I love his sense of melody and use of diminished chords. Love Tim too though. Love all of them. And yes, Scottie can play Tim's parts. A lot of their parts are doubled by each other on the albums. You can see it in real time live.

I love how dumbfounded you are by listening to this, because this is exactly how I felt. It is honestly astonishing the directions music is evolving nowadays. I bet Beethoven would be as astonished like we are, if not heaps more.

Thank you! I played some instruments at a basic level as a kid; mostly snare drum and percussion in school and some drum set with my buddies. Also I dabbled in viola, piano, trumpet, and flute, but I started making beats back in high school and started making songs a few years ago
