I have been to the Philippines for many trips for work usually for a month or more. I stayed in Makati area and took a company shuttle to Carmona every day. On my first trip, everyone was very friendly, and I was not very adventurous, just staying in the Makati mall area after work. Again, everyone super friendly. But things changed after my second and third trips. It was not just friendly, the staff treated me more like family, even though I was just a colleague. They took me on meals and met their family members and took side trips on weekends with them to interesting sites. Every trip now, I will take them gifts and or help them to buy certain things that are hard to find there or cheaper in the states... just like I do with my actual relatives in Asia and they treat me as family now. The Filipino culture is very friendly, but once they get to know you, it becomes a deeper friendship on so many levels. They share their lives with you and you get out of it what you put in. Also, for English speaking peoples, this is probably the easiest place to communicate and more likely to find people that can help translate for you. As with most Asian countries, the older people will tend to only speak their local language, but the younger people are more than happy to converse with you in English (and get practice and coaching). Wonderful society. As always in every country, there will be certain amount of bad people, but the vast majority of the people are wonderful to work and become friends with.

I have lived in the Philippines for the past 4 years, on the outskirts of Antipolo, an area with few foreigners, after retiring early. I live a very comfortable life in a very comfortable environment with my wife, son and step-daughter. We're doing just fine. I get on fine with the guys at the trike stand (beer-drinking fine) and the people in the local shops (credit if I forget my wallet fine). I came here from HK. It was a difficult adjustment to make from a 6-day working week and non-stop socialising, but I have got used to it.

@@almanalang4283 HK is very different, you are right. My apartment in HK was the size of one floor of my house in Antipolo and seven times the cost! If you are an OFW a lot depends on your employer. My ex-wife and I employed a Filipino couple as nanny,helper/driver and they had a floor to themselves in our village house. My current wife was treated terribly, shared a room with two kids and had no privacy. Now she, quite rightly, is living like a queen in the Philippines.

Hello Aaron! My Wife May and Mike here in the Philippines new to the channel and loving the content! Been here since 2019 retired out of the Air Force Okinawa Japan and luven every minute. As for my Filipina and I we are just fine here in the Philippines, has everything our hearts desire. Just a simple and peaceful life. Its good to find people who keep it real and just state the true facts. If only more people had an awesome personality like yours it would be a better world. The young lady helping me open the account was surprised at my answer when she asked me why I chose the Philippines as a retirement destination. "The people. Scenery is everywhere. You can build a house in the middle of the most amazing scenery on earth and six months later it's just your back yard. It's the people who make or break it as a place to live."

@@joylight9167 I had to think about that one for a while. The usual place is online dating sites or personal ads. The problem is that people who prey on those looking for a guide also know this. Your best bet is to do a web search for a travel agency close to the hotel you are going to spend the first night at and ask if there is a local guide they reccomend. It will cost a little more and he'll make darn sure you visit places that have as business tie to that agency but at least you'll get somebody who passed a background check.

Filipinos are just cool and calm with respect in dealing with different nationalities and colors. We are very very hospitable in showing to them what we have and what we are and are reliable friends in case of needs. Some foreigners may wonder why most Pinoys are very interesting in talking with them it is because we wanted to show our friendly treats.

Agreed 100% leave your mental baggage back home and you will be much much happier. Family dynamics or what they were back in America in the 1950-60's . I came from a very dysfunctional family that was basically non-existent. My wife's family is the first real family I could say I've ever had. Mad love and respect for her mom ,dad and all of her brothers.

Spot on. My wife is from a remote village in Surigao del Sur. Just returned from two weeks with our two boys, living in their homes. Best family time ever. You do need to be careful. If you are looking in the wrong places and monger motives…you will get burned…and deserve it. But head to the provinces and meet the true Filipinos and everything you said is true.

I am a black American who have traveled to many countries in the world. I can say that Filipinos are the most hospitable and kindhearted people that I've met. I studied and completed the masters and doctorate degrees in Public Health in the Philippines and I am back in the States as the chair of a department at a University. Tackling about family, it reminded me a situation several years ago when my then Italian fiancè had a little misunderstanding with my late mother. This guy was suddenly asked me to choose between him and my family to my surprised. At that very moment I thought is this the man I am going to wed? You know not all filipinos are in good terms with their families, not all are family oriented but when someone touch that someone's family, it will be a disaster. For filipinos blood is thicker than water no mater how much love you have for that water but blood is blood who gives life. So after that question, I just turned my back and walk away. He already knew what that meant coz I am not a confrontational kind of a person. When I turned my back and left with no trace don't wait but move on to your life. I rarely done that coz the patience I have is like a roll of a thick long ropes. I am not close with my family but I would not compromise them to any b*s that anybody would bring. The person who were born and raised in the country will be like a true filipino even if you are not true blooded filipino and that has been proven by many nationalities who was born in the Phils. Our own tradition taught us how to love our respective family near or afar that I think only this country could do with no harm. Thank you for the kind and good words that you've given to us. As a black person, I think we should fix our own social conditions before trying to fix other people's. Black people going to foreign countries to look for foreign husband and wives will not fixed the problem in black communities. God gave us a responsibility to nurture and care for our own vineyard. FAM, I respect your opinion 💯. I think you are missing my point. What I know about our people is that they will only do what they know. Most will never leave the state they live in. Knowledge is power, and I am not talking about strictly education. To solve the world's problems, it has to do with mindset. If I change the way a very poor little boy or girl grows up and empower them to believe they can achieve anything, it will change a generation. It's will help our people in the US and all over the world. I love my black sisters and brothers but a lot have been taught to hate themselves. They have been taught aggression, and in doing so, they think being strong is seeing how many men or women you can fool or get over on. They want to easy way out. Well, know this I am looking for peace in my life but I also want everybody in the world to win. So also know this I plan on taking my wins to the US in the poorer areas and get some of this rich donor money to build a generation of children around the world to believe in their self. That is my mission to suggest you need to leave the US to find your destiny is not it. So I hope that clears up my motivation.

But for black men or women to leave their communities and go overseas to seek foreign wives and husbands, I think that's an abomination. We have an obligation to preserve our own people. And I not against interracial marriage, but if we all start marrying outside of our ethnicity then it will be the end of us as a people.

@@aarondantetalks From the videos I've watched, there's really no incentive for Black Men to stay within the race lines if the BW keeps disrespecting and belittling them because mainstream and social media told them it's cool to do so. They are being treated like ATM machines to fund the selfish, capricious, and shallow lifestyles of "strong and independent" BW. It's a world of difference from the respect and acceptance they can get in SE Asia from males and females alike. SE Asia does not actually need saving. The region is rising and is projected to be one of the main growth areas of the world in the coming decades. Black Men should find it okay to seek their happiness and fulfillment where they can, not being guilted into staying where they are not wanted or cherished. They cannot save the race on their own. Life is too short. P.S. A black man, Justin Brownlee, just became a naturalized Filipino recently. He's idolized by many Filipinos because of his character and personality. He's a credit to the black race. He's probably welcome in any part of the country and will be long after he retires from his professional career. P.P.S. It's more cost-effective to do philanthropy here and in Africa than in the US. The PH government has helped turn 30,000 poor Filipino students into college graduates and eventual breadwinners by giving them a bit less than a $40 monthly education subsidy. You probably cannot do that in the US.
