How would you compare the driving experience to the type R.

I'd say it's very similar in how refined both cars are manual gearbox wise, but that's about it, after that I'd say the GTI is the better daily car and way better road trip car, but the Type R is the more special car and more fun car to drive overall.

@@RaceCarFriends very interesting.....I have a mk7 now(2015) and I'm looking for for something New. Considering Mk 8 gti, Civic type R and Elantra N. Is it the stiffer suspension of the type R that makes you favor the GTI for a daily?

@@KC-lg8qf Yup it's that plus how special it feels, it doesn't feel like a car you want to drive everyday it feels more like a weekend car, like I know people that have Porsche's, and a Type R and they say the same thing that they will daily the Porsche and weekend the Type R.

I have a 2015 MK7 Autobahn edition and absolutely love it. It was in the bodyshop under VW Paint warranty. They replaced the fenders, all 4 doors, and repaired a bunch of other parts. It basically looks brand new. While it was being repaired I drove a WRX and it's a so so car for a bunch of reasons. When I got back into my MK7 I could not help but smile as I drove home. As for the MK8, my friend has one, and it's amazing, but for me, the digital cluster and touch controls ruin it. I don't mind the infotainment system being digital but prefer an analog Cluster. I do agree VW gives a Lot for the money in a GTI. Especially starting with the MK7's

Yup my favorite GTI's are the MK7.5 but these MK8's are quickly growing on me.

SE trim and Autobahn gets Harman Kardon sound system with subwoofer. But the stock sound system is very good too. As our guy states, that's a very good value for 30k.

My 7.5 made its exact stated power on the dyno so I think the understated power thing might be a bit of a myth, they just put it down well

I know a lot of people with tuned versions of these vehicles and they're still really reliable I had a 2019 Golf R that was tuned and didn't have any issues with it at all, so I guess it comes down to the individual and vehicle.
