I've had a few 4K TV's over the years. I decided to upgrade to an LG OLED for my birthday this past July, as prices were falling for these high end 4K TV's. OLED is defininitely what you want. When you find one, check the reviews on sites like PCMAG, CNET, or RTINGS. All 4K TV's are not equal. OLED is currently the best technology for 4K TV's you can buy!🙂

It's easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled. I remember having a discussion with a co-worker who was in their late 50s and they had a position on an issue that was very much implanted there by various institutions let's say. I made a case for the otherside on the matter and she agreed that I was correct. The very next day she was back to her original stance and acted like we never had the discussion. I've come to the conclusion that people either find their own way or stay oblivious.

Interesting facts about They Live (1988) (1) Carpenter brought real "homeless folks" into the production for several scenes and smaller characters and gave them food as well as paychecks. "I thought that was a pretty classy thing to do," says Piper. (2) The line "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum" was ad-libbed by Roddy Piper. According to director John Carpenter, Piper had previously written the line in his notebook of potential verbal bits during his wrestling career. He shared the notebook with Carpenter, and they agreed that this particular line fit the character and the film perfectly. Piper went on to use it at a wrestling match. (3) Roddy Piper, being a married man at the time of filming, refused to take his wedding band off. That's why in several scenes you can see a wedding ring. (4) Roddy Piper quit the WWF to make this film. (5) The scene where the police attack and destroy the homeless encampment was difficult for Piper to shoot as it reminded him of similar events he witnessed in his own life. "It was a painful scene for me," he says.

John Carpenter originally got into filmmaking to make westerns, because that was his passion, ironically he never made an actual western but a lot of his movies could be called contemporary westerns, and this one maybe most of them all. Roddy Pipers name (Nada) being a direct homage to the "Man with no name" from Clint Eastwoods spaghetti westerns.

I think that Roddys greatest (and least appreciated) input on the fight scene was his experience in how to 'sell' the fight. Hollywood could show how to take a punch, throw a punch, but not how to throw a punch while looking like you've taken a few punches before. Also, he knew that two strong, tough characters would NOT collapse like a house of cards only 30sec to a minute into a fight. He knew to pack a lunch, because this is going to take some time.

I read it some years ago in a book that compiled Sci-Fi short stories that were adapted into movies. Another story in the book was "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, written back in the 1930's. That story was made into "The Thing", first in 1951 and then in 1982.

Mrs Movies has a full time job in the public sector, and I edit a video every day to share with people who enjoy (or don’t enjoy) them. We watch these after putting our two beautiful daughters to bed every night. So time for research outside all that is included in the above is hard to find. Plus I like her to go into something blind without knowing much. Helps for her to try and figure things out on her own. If you don’t like our videos fine. But you don’t have to be so negative and disrespectful to us with every comment you give. It’s a little weird how much time you spend commenting about something you apparently don’t like. Try to put positive things into the universe and find things that you do enjoy. You’ll be much happier for it.

Hey, Mr. & Mrs.! Great pick! Great reaction! This sci-fi satire is a Carpenter fan favorite! This was a condemnation of Reaganomics and capitalism-run-amok but it's still happening today! Star 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, a former wrestler, called the film a documentary! That's brilliant. The protracted fight scene in the alley over the glasses between Roddy Piper and Keith David was famously parodied on "South Park"! "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum." became part of the contemporary lexicon after this movie. Keith David is one of those actors who elevates anything he's in. He has such a distinctive rumbling voice. I had the good fortune to run into him at a Broadway show years ago. I was tongue-tied and nervous but he was kind enough to give me his autograph. He co-starred with Kurt Russell in Carpenter's "The Thing". Meg Foster has the spookiest eyes; a pair of piercing pale blue beauties that look right into your soul. Peter Jason, the leader of the cell who runs the Hooverville, appears in 7 John Carpenter films! George "Buck" Flower, the bum turned collaborator, appears in 6. Mr. Flower began his career in soft-core porn, became a genre mainstay usually playing bums in scores of films, appeared on dozens of popular TV shows and is best known for his association with John Carpenter. His role as the opportunistic hobo in "They Live!" is probably his best showcase. Mr., please show the Mrs. Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13"!

One of my favorite movies of all time! With so many classic lines that Toddy improvised! I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum and I'm all out of gum! I got to help that before a bar fight in.Spain when I was in the military!

Regarding the discussion topic at the end, I think _They Live_ is a perfect title. It's short, terse, not very expositive, yet it evokes an air of conspiracy, menace, as well as insisting on a fact one expects to be challenged. No matter from what angle you examine it... it's a pretty good fit.

Like many people, I initially didn't notice the wedding ring Roddy wears in the movie. He was married and refused to take it off, even for filming.

Considering he was not a trained actor, Roddy Piper was great in this. Before he died he had a podcast and he had John Carpenter on the podcast. He actually outright asked Carpenter if he ever thought that they live would somehow become a documentary. John Carpenter also was joking on Roddy's podcast that he had very successful movies with very low budgets. He made the joke that just wants he had had the chance to have a budget to do whatever he wanted to see how good it could turn out with some actual money involved.

WWF/WWE boss Vince McMahon did not want Piper to do this movie. He even attempted to bribe Roddy with a McMahon-produced movie for him to star in. Roddy refused, and McMahon made him persona non grata with the WWF for two years as "punishment."

Absolutely the best fight sing. Roddy did this space thing. Frog comes to helltown or Hell comes to frogtown. Meg Foster's clear blue eyes! DAAAMN! There very few of those eyes out there. Gott some Roddyisms in this. Those polarized glasses are something. Names? Now you see 'em now you don't. SNL Hans and Franz title. Look at me now and see me later. And in the spirit of the red pill, "SPECS ". Yep, Roddy was Canadian. Happy holidays!

I always loved that fight scene. And when you think about it, all it was about was whether or not that gut would wear the glasses. LOL The guy who was giving the tour at the end was also in another John Carpenter Film..."Escape From New York.". He's the guy that end up wearing the President's life monitor.

Much of California is desert it get VERY cold at night in many parts where I used to live it would regularly reach 115 during the day and drop down to about 30-40 at night so that frost was on the ground the next morning.

-All of those homeless were actual homeless. John hired them so they'd get regular meals and some money. -The design of the aliens and them being revealed in B&W, are a love letter to B-movies of the 50's. -This was John's response to *Reaganomics* and the "trickle down" theory.
