I stayed at the Brown's back in the summer of 73' with my family. I had a great time and it is sad to see it in such condition. They had a camp for the kids towards the back of the property called the "Brownies" and they had us busy all day swimming, archery and we even did a play onstage. We did "Lost Horizon". I remember my brother, this Irish kid named Tom and me were the only Catholic kids there but everyone was very nice and made us feel welcomed. Good times!

I sometimes don't understand how time stands still in these abandoned places. it's like the people vaporized by aliens, and they belongings were left behind.

When there is a fire that massive, everyone is evacuated and nobody was allowed to return after the fire. So prior to any vandalism, it becomes a time capsule of the moments before evacuation. There are videos of other similar complexes around the country where everyone had to leave with little or no notice and nobody was allowed to return. Make sure your renters insurance is up to date so you don't get left with nothing if this happens to you in one of these large apartment/condo complexes.

Watching this from Australia, that kind of weather is so foreign to me! I know you've had a brutal winter over there. We've just come out of a heatwave (40°C/104F). This is a fantastic explore. 👏🌟Some of the apartments still seem liveable but the joint is pretty trashed in general I guess. Thanks so much for sharing with us! 😊👍

These people we’re screwed and tattooed. Those that still had recoverable property weren’t allowed to retrieve it due to asbestos concerns, but it wasn’t long before the looters got there and took anything of value. Then, insurance companies refused to pay on the property itself because they said the insurance was acquired without disclosing fire alarms and sprinklers not working in some buildings. They lost all their belongings, and the purchase cost of their condos. The property is for sale, for I think $800,000, but it would cost millions to clear and clean. The Jerry Lewis Theatre Club wasn’t more than singed a bit, but all that rot in there is spooky.

This was a great video! Thanks so much for sharing this. I'll never understand why people would just leave all their personal stuff behind. Even if they didn't want the furniture, you'd think they'd want their personal effects, clothes and pictures and stuff like that. It's amazing. Almost like they just disappeared one day!

Mary Bobb , This is the old Brown’s Hotel, famous Catskill resort. Closed it’s doors in 1988. About 9 years later, reopened as condominiums (Grandview Palace.) In 2012, it suffered the worst fire in Catskills history. Most of the condos burned to the ground. Civil authorities prevented access to the rest for fear of freed asbestos. That’s why the stuff is still there. Condo Board screwed up the insurance and none was paid, so owners lost it all because the value of the property is way less than the costs to clean and clear it. The nightclub is the Jerry Lewis Theatre Club. It survived, but 30 years of neglect make it rotten and leaky.

I really enjoyed your video. The chairs, the records, ect. But most of all I loved the chandelier what a beauty. The apartments stuff were from the late 90's to very early 2000's. Looked so darn cold there. Awesome video :-)

Some of that major mold could be from water damage. I was thinking early in the video that it looked like a fire alarm went off and everybody just dropped everything and left. Then you showed the fire. Nice explore guys. Stay safe.

They had a short time frame and without working elevators, it made it nearly impossible for the mostly elderly residents to take their possessions.
