Tim and Rick... In my opinion this was the absolute BEST "conversation" (episode) of No Chaser to date! And shout out to Rick for pushing back the anger (based off the topics) and intelligently and eloquently educating while breaking down the "fight" we've been in since birth for most of us, that we never signed up for. Btw... Tim you were the voice I didn't know I needed to hear say something to me 10 years ago when I randomly clicked on a thumbnail of an Asian dude sitting in a bathtub wearing a ton of gold chains...lol The Asian community ABSOLUTELY needs your voice my dude! Lastly... Having Bach's back the way you to were... REAL ONES!

I moved to Utah from long beach. I use to deliver 5 gallon jugs to the stores. I would deliver to this small town in Wyoming. A lot of cigarette smokers. You only see white residents. I told my white supervisor that they stare a lot. He said, "I think it's just you". The new white guy I trained to take my position. I told him the same thing, he repeated the same thing the supervisor said. They are so comfortable being white, they didn't even consider that it's possible because they've never been through it.

@viviennewestwoodruinedmylife4 жыл бұрын
Dragon of The White Flame it sounds like something I would hear from some white lady that thinks she’s woke or cnn. How do you even answer the question. If someone is living a normal life why would changing their skin color make them change their interactions you act like white people just go around talking shit to everyone with no fear because they are white.
@dragonofthewhiteflame49874 жыл бұрын
@@viviennewestwoodruinedmylife I'm not white. It appears that my question wasn't clear. Allow me to rephrase it. Rick explains that it is the level of comfort that defines white privilege and that white people cannot see it because they have not experienced what other skin colors experience. My response to a white person that does not believe that white privilege is real is, "Assuming that you are a white law abiding citizen, would you change anything in your daily life had you woke one morning black?"

Boom that part 30:00 reminded me of a time about 10 years ago I was running with my little brother. And the this white man picked his dog and shielded his girlfriend. I felt so horrible and ended up crying about it. And it ruined my mood. And I just kept wondering why can these white people run and jog everyday and my brother and I race just down the block and I clearly terrified the grown white people. And the thing is I always knew black people shouldn't run. ESPECIALLY since we live in a majority white area, but my brother was raised there so he didn't think much of it and wanted to race and we were laughing and cheering each other on. And I was actually hesitant to continue when I started to see them. But my brother didn't mind it and I tried to shrug it off. And when I seen that. I swear that moment happened in slow motion and seeing how horrified they looked. It gave me such a sick feeling. Like I'm 5" and my little brother was around my height at the time and we were able to make them feel that way. I just teared up and walked the rest of the way. And I hated how black people always have to act differently even in normal situations. Tip even with bad service, be calm when treated poorly, walk when we want to run/jog, being followed in a store is a given. Its BS (and that's just the main things, there's so much more that we deal with that I thought was normal until my sister got with a white man...it amazes me every time.and he thought we talk about race too much. Bruh its just our life! He couldn't even imagine and laughed because he thought we were joking or exaggerating)

I was working in a department store a few years back. Security caught the white women stealing and had her back in the office waiting for police. I was cool with the guy in LP and he asked for a female to be back so that they re not alone while they wait. They officer came in and immediately walked over to me to give me the business. He had to be redirected to the the offender. I was mortified to say the least.

As an Asian, it does make me mad when black people think it's ok to be racist to us when y'all KNOW and been through and go through the same shit and that fear from others projected onto you and in my head, I'm just like " wtf are you doing, man? You know how this shit feels so why you tryna be one of those kinds of people? " Idk man. Bc I've experienced racism from black and white people way before the virus was around esp in my teen life so idk. But definitely nowadays, I can feel what black people have been through in terms of I'm afraid to leave my house bc I'm worried I'll get attacked or some shit. Already had white peoole look scared looking at me few months back when I was just going shopping for some snacks.. so it's smthn I've never experienced before and that shit hurt so I get it now :/

I'm a 45-year-old white guy (who's been a fan for over 10 years) and I've NEVER heard the white privilege argument explained so clearly like this before. I've always denied having it and said "it's those rich white mofo's that have all that white privilege, not my poor ass!", but hearing it as not my privileges as in college, taxes, or rich daddy's, but as in the freedoms I take for granted that you guys don't have makes way more sense. I remember me, my other white friend and my black friend got lost on our way to Olive Garden and I literally pulled up next to a cop at a red light, rolled my window down and asked him for directions... and he was very nice and gave us great directions. My black friend was floored and amazed... he said "you white people can do that?!?!?" and we just laughed and said "yeah... they're there to help people, duh!" and never thought much about it. But yeah, now that I think about it, the cop would have seen a black man rolling down his window and maybe put his hand on his gun or reacted differently. To this explanation of white privilege, I can totally see it as something I have without argument. It would be the same if I went down to Mexico and needed instructions... I don't think I’d feel as comfortable asking a cop or federali there. I'm hoping the United States is changing enough to move past this in this next generation... but you never know how it is until you are deep down in it.

hearing the story about tim getting pulled over and the way he acted SHOCKED me... i'm asian but my parents always taught me to tell the officer where exactly your registration and license is and to ask them if you can reach for it because even many years ago we already knew people were getting shot for reaching. back when i was younger it was something we considered could happen to ANYONE regardless of race. i still think it can, but in the past several years it has been something that black people especially have to be sure to do because of all the reckless killings by officers. really interesting that tim wasn't concerned about that

A little bit of input into the white privilege topic, based off an experience I had recently. So, I was at the track doing some sprinting and as I ran by a group of kids (all white, I’m from a very, very white town), I overheard one of them say he wished he were black, cuz he’d have a big dick and be good at sports. I think those kinds of stereotypes could influence someone who has not experienced anything besides their privilege. I think they see stereotypes like that more than the struggle being a different color can bring, which makes it even more challenging to understand the privilege they have. Basically they might think (and this is really dumbed down) something like: oh they have it a little harder but they’re good at football which gets them all the girls. Thinking that somehow evens out the playing field, if that makes sense.
