You can be a small indie studio and still be owned by a larger company. Plenty of smaller game studios are owned by larger ones or even get contracted to make small little games for the company that accepted a deal to make some type of brand related game. These Studios are still indie studios, there parent companies aren't benevolent beings that pipe down resources and manpower. They just provide more stability and give these studios the time and money in-between releases to stay afloat and not have to lay off their staff.

You're totally right, and I think in most cases, bigger companies supporting indie studios can lead to some fantastic products. In Mintrocket's case, however, they were never an indie studio to begin with. By Nexon's own admission, they label the studio as a "Sub-Brand" which indicates that they've allocated resources to establish and fund the group, as opposed to contracting/partnering with an external studio.

No, they did not put DESTINY 2 in the best community support, didn’t they literally say a racial slur in one of their tweets, and then disable comments on that tweet (or delete them) and then refused to acknowledge it. And then they fired a ton of their employees along with the fact revealed that upper management has been keeping the devs from having cool things with the community.

Yeah, it is... very weird that D2 of all games got nominated. Especially given that Warframe, a similar game with substantially more direct support from its dev team, just celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, and yet wasn't even nominated.

The proble is consumers don't REALLY care how many people developed a game, how much founding it had, etc. ultimately, any label you come up with will be boiled down to aesthetic and feel.

I don't think at any point you actually went into how much it cost to make or what size the team was that worked on Dave the Diver. In fact a lot of the video seems to just be frustration at degradation of an already vague label. I think we should eschew indie as a category and if we want to recognize small teams making the best of the resources we have we should treat game development like boxing with different weight categories. It's nothing new in the industry for game companies to have multiple studios that work on different projects of different scales. And truly independent studios or projects get bought or published by larger companies all the time.

@@1cegrim Fair enough, as an JRPG it can take quite a while to finish it, but the important part is if you are having fun with the game or not in the end... I can already tell it is gonna be another Synthesis marathon to get some of the more powerful/cool/cute monsters from the series. Dragon Quest 11 was my first DQ game so obviously I'm more attached to it and its monsters, I hope they have Jerkules (a four armed cyclops) as well as Jasper. I can hardly wait for December 1st😁

@@guilhermefinamori-xy8xn If we're lucky they'll follow what Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland SP did and just have every monster in the franchise in the game. Although that'll make synthesis take even longer lol

@@1cegrim There was a trailer that came out recently that showed a few of the new monsters and said there were 500 monster in the game... and while that is a lot (recolors are also in there) I don't know if that is all of them, not counting the new monsters introduced in the game of course.

I got to disagree with you here but because if you haven't played the game then how can you have any kind of opinion on the subject matter? Go play Dave the diver and see how much it is in indie game and the overwhelmingly positive reviews the game has should also show that it is a popular and good indie game
