We had the aforementioned M-14's, including one full auto version, M-60 machine guns, and M-79 grenade launchers. Hadn't seen that one until now, and I was a fan of Smith Enterprises - even visited them in their old Tempe digs in the early '90's. If I'd known about that one back then, I believe there would possibly be 3 in this country. I'm really digging that M60 style gas system on it, but can't help but wonder why it was not duplicated in some of their other M14 variants.

You see, this is what I don't understand;...those of us here in Phoenix who hung out at Smith Enterprises and did business with him saw these things there in the shop all the time. There can't possibly be only 2 of these, because I have been there in the Tempe shop and seen 5 getting packaged for shipping. (Probably a covert contract of some sort.) Ron always had this one at the gun shows trying to gin up sale for them. But since he wanted about $3000 for one back in 94',...well that's why they didn't sell. Then the SOCOM came about and that was the end. But there's no way only 2 exist, because I've laid eyes on them.

Col North was a volunteer scapegoat for Reagan and Bush they pissed on the constitution and the law. The congress outlawed funding and supplying weapons and material support to the Contras but Reagan and the CIA didn’t stop. They had North run the operation out of the White House that included arms sales with Iran another arms sale violation, but for the end result when it was uncovered the fall out was far ranging but here we go. Saddam Hassan went nuts when he found out that we were supplying both sides of the Iran Iraq war with missiles and intelligence, he sent a Mirage F1 with Exocet anti ship missiles out over the Persian Gulf attacking the USS Stark with 2 Eocet missiles the first penetrated the hull but didn’t explode the second hit the ship in about the same area penetrated the ship and exploded in the crew quarters killing 37 wounding 21, but it did stop there later a gun shy USS Vincennes shoots down a Iranian commercial Airbus A33 Iran Air Flight 655 killing 290 they mistakenly took it for a Iranian F14 Tomcat, but it didn’t stop there an outraged Iran contacted Libya to bomb Pan Am 103 that exploded over Lockerbie Scotland killing 259 on the plane and 12 on the ground. That is the chain of events that your hero Col North unleashed by being a good little Marine following the orders of his commander and chief while crapping on the law, the constitution and the oath he swore over 600 people died including his fellow servicemen. Oh and by the way the reason congress cut off all funding to the Contras was they were brutally killing innocent civilians the last strew was killing American nuns then blaming it on the Sandinistas. They were really stupid to continue to kill civilians while being investigated by a congressional committee but then kill a group of American nuns then try and gram the enemy was just plain nuts, they threatened the villagers but that didn’t work they all ratted them out they were tired of being killed by them. So much for your hero worship.

As a M14/M1A enthusiast I really enjoyed this vid. I've seen pics of the full stock version but haven't seen one fired. That report has to be deafening. Double ear pro for sure with something like that.

Wow! Never knew this existed! Carried a NM M1A on the DMZ in '88 as a daytime DMR rifle on MACE (counter infiltration) team. M16 A1 with PVS-4 was my night time rifle. Loved the M14 ever since. The power and reach made me feel more comfortable with it vs. the M16. Could see using this in the bush for sure!

The M14 is a great gun alongside the M1 Carbine which you can actually see in the opening clip with an M16 and M60 which we supplied to anti drug operations down in South America back in the day.

Nice video. I have a LaFrance M14K Transferable machinegun. I collect transferable machineguns, but most specifically LaFrance guns. He did a lot of unique guns such a the two gas /porttube M16K and the M14K with a M60 gas system. LaFrance and SEI were the only two SOT-07s that made transferable M14k's that I am aware of.

Tim LaFrance (LaFrance Specialties) also offered both the M16K and M14K in semi auto versions. They are as rare as the full auto ones, but when you do come across one once every 3-5yrs, they are still about 7K for the MK14 and 10K for the M16K. FA equivalents are about 25K and 40K respectively.

We still had the M14s when I was in the navy in the early eighties. I'm a big fan of them. What I like about the rifle is you don't have to be a really good shot to hit what you need to. Just don't go full automatic because after the 3rd round, you're duck hunting, lol

I saw a similar weapon about 10 years ago. Built with a M-60 gas system on a M-1A rifle also with a 13 inch barrel, but with a modified wood butt stock. Made me want one. Apparently, most of the powder of a 7.62×51/.308 is burnt in the first 12 inches of the barrel, so muzzle blast/flash is minimal.

Awesome vid Admin, (like always) i remember seeing this weapon in a Soldier of Fortune mag in the late 70's or early 80's when all that mayhem was happening in central America.

I've held and sold some pretty rare colts and other guns but this by far outside of transferable machine guns is the rarest thing I've seen...I didn't even know they existed.

I'm surprised that such an M14 configuration wasn't developed during the early days of the Vietnam war for advisors as the short barrel and pistol grip/ folding stock would make it handy for jungle use.

Wow!! as far as range, that thing was designed for jungle combat. I'm thinking most contact was within 100 yards.
@justinschmicker10492 жыл бұрын
I trained with the 1st BN Counter Guerillas and those are some bad dudes. Their engagements from what they told us was within 100yrds a lot of near ambushes. Most combat in the jungle so with that said the M14k mades a lot of sense to me and the environment it was ment for.

This thing was probably designed to be more of secondary marksman's rifle for those using short range firearms like pistols, shotguns or SMGs in CQC. For a long time, nobody had the answer for this. A lot of guys relied on a .44 or .357 as a backup pocket sniper. I personally carried an M1 Carbine, Mare's Leg and shortened 8mm Mauser for this reason.
