We were warned in no uncertain terms not to speculate or talk about who Rudakubana might be and why he did what he did for fear of jeopardising the case.Which means that, had it gone to trial, the jury might be influenced by what had been circulating in the public square, which might then lead to claims by Rudakubana's lawyers that he couldn't get a fair trial. So why was that photo of a normal schoolboy allowed, along with the narrative that he was a Welsh choirboy from a hard-working, salt-of-the-earth, Christian family? If a negative image could prejudice a jury then aurely a positive image could do the same thing too?

We were right to be angry. People in Southport and other towns cross the north of England were right to be angry and go out and protest. Some of them were arrested and sentenced to jail by judges who pontificated about "Diversity is our strength". Julia needs to acknowledge that not every protest became a riot and the side door of one migrant hostel, not more than one, was set on fire.

I understand your meaning but they were not just telling the truth. Those arrested attacked people, buildings, etc. burnt things, looted , they commited crimes "while" protesting. If anyone was arrested purely for peacfully protesting, they should have never been arrested in the first place. We should have the right to free expression but if we are violent or commit crimes in the process we still need to be accountable for our actions.

@sevenaces7965 my comment was specifically about those out in the streets and nothing to do with your point about social media posting which is a different topic entirely. So I don't think either of us are disagreeing with eachother. On your topic though, I personally am a firm believer in freedom of speech even on social media, even if what that person says may upset me or be deeply offensive, that's their right so long as it doesn't incite violence. So if you say "I hate x people etc" that's fine. But if you say "We need to burn a building, or people from x need to be shot etc" that's dangerous and you should be charged for it as you are outright encouraging direct harm, like the Tory MPs wife did and was arrested for it. As for the other posts if those were not inciting violence I believe (personally) that's its not a crime.
