Pleasantly surprised by Skeleton Crew, I had major reservations but it's really just got a good adventure storytelling vibe. (Yes, with major references to Goonies, Stranger Things, etc) They made a FUN, kid centered story that is just focusing on the STORY of it all, the adventure of these kids thrown into a strange environment on an adventure... I'm excited for the next episode (which is saying ALOT since I had NO hopes for this show whatsoever)

I agree. I immediately thought of Ahsoka when thinking about shows where it really helps to have the background knowledge. This you could truly go in knowing very little or nothing and be fine. Like I know the show runners said that would be the case, but even I was surprised by how accessible the show is and how the kids know almoost nothing about the wider galaxy. Bot even what hyperspace is something we take for granted.
@kirkdarling412021 күн бұрын
"Hyperspace" has been around since the 1940s, essentially since Einstein's theory became popularly known that the speed of light is the universe's top speed, and that the speed of light is too slow. We can safely say that anyone who could become interested in any kind of science fiction would already be aware, or will quickly accept "hyperspace" as a trope. Otherwise, this show doesn't presume the audience knows any more about the setting than the young main characters know, and that's also a good way to start a series. It's essentially the same as A New Hope, working from tropes we already know, such as "farm" (it doesn't matter what they're producing, a farm is a farm) and "evil empire" and "rebellion."

I love it. But different. The thumbnail is literally a George Lucas design. Again, love the show. And I've generally liked what Disney has done, despite being an OG trilogy guy. I find this "lack of references to the wider lore" explanation to be... insufficient. Like, sure, absolutely, it's good to have shows that casual or non-fans can just jump into without having watched, read, and played everything that came before it to understand who that character is and why everyone else in the audience is so excited to see them (or why they're alive when the last time you saw them, both halves of them were falling down a very deep hole). But on the other hand, I don't think that's what the noisily complaining fans want. There's no way in Hell that the people who are "furious" about the Acolyte getting Ki-Adi Mundi's age wrong would be satisfied with a lack of references. There's gotta be something else going on (yes, those people being such a tiny minority that their rants get drowned out if enough other people are watching could explain this discrepancy). I dunno. I think fresh and original and not bogged down by fanservice to other series aren't the whole explanation. Acolyte had that too (stupid rants about Ki-Adi Mundi and Darth Plagueis' tiny tiny cameos aside), and everyone but me apparently hated it.

I really feel that this is ONLY going to appeal to the not Star Wars fans and not the original fans. There's a HUGE line that was drawn in the sand with quality, plot and love of the series and that was when Disney bought it. Star Wars from that point on was literal garbage. 90% waste of money and time. I'm all for something different, but how about something that feels like it belongs in the universe? Maybe featuring a character or location from fan favorites. No no, let's just write some random as crap for no one and hope they all like it because we slapped "star wars" on the cover. T__T It doesn't look, feel or sound like star wars to me at all. If you didn't have the name attached, I'd guess it was some random movie in space. Nothing says star wars to me. For those that enjoy it, I'm legit happy you're getting something from the series, it's written for someone.

I am someone who is a massive Star Wars fan but just hated the horrible direction of several disney shows and movies, especially Obi Wan, BOBF, TLJ and ROS were just atrocious, but have enjoyed disney SW when they actually do good, specifically Mando 1, Rogue One, Solo was good, Andor was divine and probably the best SW show of them all. I hope I speak for a majority of SW fans when I say if a show is good then it is worth watching and praising, how else will we get the best possible SW content? Hating all of it is just foolish and doesnt achieve anything tbh. I for one hope disney knocks it out of the park from now on, and will criticize fairly when they do a horrible job, and hope they do better. I think the majority of haters of shows like the acolyte are not alt right, but are fans who feel disrespected when they are expected to enjoy trash. That show trashes on the jedi and has a weird infatuation with the sith, without doing the sith justice at all. Tell a good story where the Jedi are shown to be competent but the Sith stay one step ahead with Plageous at the helm, and you have a winning show. Focusing on a mystery that is shown right away and is riddled with plot holes and incompetent characters, and the audience will obviously hate it. Thats at least how I think it is
