This movie is hilarious. Critics shredded it for failure to story build and some scenes seemed more like skits than parts of a movie. They can tear apart technical aspects of the movie if they want but it’s a comedy and it brought the laughs.
@stephengrigg5988
@stephengrigg5988 27 күн бұрын
@@closequarters4575that is a legitimate complaint. The connecting story is incredibly weak, and the strong parts seem like independent ideas they already had and worked them into this story. Like that awful ridiculous six Sandler movie, that has a really good drawn out scene about them creating baseball that I can pretty much guarantee was in someone's head for a while and just tossed into the film. This whole movie feels like that baseball sketch, some clever stuff but it doesn't work as a traditional "movie" since everything works so independently of itself.

for those who are wondering, this act represents what would be old Carthage / old Punic Kingdoms. The helmets and armor are completely off, they merely managed to get the white kinda decent, and they also used a bit more purple. The purple lining on robes (later adapted by the Romans as a sign of high status) was actually obtained from underwater snails - you'd have ancient freestyle divers who would dive into the coast and get snails to get the purple and reddish dye. The high priest scene etc, this depicts the worshipping of the Punic god Bael Hammon, sometimes depicted as a horned man. And yes, they did actually sacrifice virgins and threw them into the fire to attempt to make rain happen lol. Source - I'm a professor of history.

And, although this movie is titled Year One, it's got many concepts that would've realistically taken place several centuries prior to year one. One more thing --> the aesthetics of the helmets, for the soldiers, it's wrong. Because they have openings above the brown. Most movies get this so wrong. Real ancient, and medieval helmets, they cover right at or below the brown. As in, you can't see the eyebrows. And so yeah, we don't know where those cities would've taken place. Some experts point out archeological sites near the Red Sea, others closer to Mesopotamia, but we don't know for sure. As far as Atlantis, and depending on the expert you ask, you'll get either it's not yet discovered or it's only a myth, but the best historical records would be that it was closer to Iberia. We know Plato and other Egyptian high priests mentioned the ancient city, and no, we don't think that they had flying cars 10,000 BC of anything of that nature like we see in movies, but likely it was advanced for the time because the region near Iberia is filthy rich in minerals. They likely had mastered metalworks prior to other civilizations. That's just my guess. Some people are working on archeological sites in Morocco, thinking the city could've been there as well.

@rorydidelin7473 This movie always confused me being called Year One. They are cavemen who venture into a more civilized world and yet also come across Cane and Abel.

We have similar practices around controlling weather now. The Irish are going to sacrifice 200,000 cows to the weather gods. And we will wear sack cloth and ashes and cycle to the supermarket to keep the thermostat dialed down low. Same thing Different epoc.

The movie had so much potential but it looks like it was made in a hurry.
