My wife had Breast Cancer 3 years ago and had a mastectomy and it was a terrible time for us all. She took 6 months to recover from the surgery and from year to year she has scans and visits to her oncologist. The point being made about it being hurtful and offensive to women who have had mastectomies because of cancer is totally valid. It is also something I can fully sympathise with and have understanding of, even though I am a man. I had cancer myself and was receiving radiotherapy during 'covid'. There was only 2 patients allowed to travel in an ambulance. One day i was in the ambulance with a young woman, we naturally made conversation. She told me she had breast cancer and had had a mastectomy. It saddened me greatly to witness her revealing this to me with tear filled eyes and a trembling voice. It was so difficult to see her struggle with what she was going through and having to accept and come to terms with. It distressed me immensely but I also realised my distress was nothing like the distress she was and would be going through.

Scars are a sign of strength. In cancer patients, that they have fought a terrible battle, but they did it, and as hard as it was, they have had that courage and strength to have fought when they did not want to. In people who suffer with gender dysphoria, it is a sign they have fought a terrible battle, but they did so, even if it is a fight they did not ask for. You cannot be offended against your will. If you are offended, you play an active role in being offended. A potential offence is offered (here, a cartoon of a trans man after a mastectomy) and *you* choose whether or not to take that offence. No one can be offended without their own intrinsic consent.
