Donald Trump was ordered by a Manhattan jury to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million for defamation. Carroll said Trump ruined her reputation by denying he raped her. But was Trump treated more harshly than he should've been? Lionel Shriver speaks to Freddy Gray.

Apparently this woman has made several unsuccessful accusations over the years, against her dentist, her daughter’s boyfriend and others. “Eccentric” doesn’t cover it.

You'd think since Amber Heard blew up "believe all women" that this nonsense would stop. Guess the feminist lobbies have much more power than I thought they'd still have. Clearly if you're the "wrong guy" as Trump is the "believe all women" still stands. I have a dear doctor friend of mine who practiced for 32 years, a woman from his native country and that's why she came to him as they could speak in their native tongue, falsely accused him of sexual assault. Make a long story short, he was convicted in the "he said, she said" body of evidence, then he was sentenced to 10 years. A couple of months into his sentence his scumbag lying accuser's BFF came forward to the Crown Attorney's Office with texts and emails from the lying accuser stating how she was going to ruin him as he refused HER advances. He was a faithful husband at the time. 3 months after being sentenced a judge had read the new evidence, parties were brought into his courtroom, the truth was plain for all to see. Judge see aside his conviction. One must remember, this is NOT a pardon, they're almost impossible to come by in Canada on sexual assault issues (I've been told the feminist lobby has made it this way). His Regulatory Body revoked his medical license, once convicted he was stripped of his pension (that to me is so wrong). He's now practicing again in his native country as Canada would not acknowledge his innocence and reinstate his license. What happened to the lying scumbag of an accuser? NOTHING! I have 2 other friends in their 60s survive similar false accusations, both won in court, but lost their careers and ended up broke paying to defend themselves. What happened to their false accusers? NOTHING! So, when I had a woman friend the other day just laid into Trump on this Carroll woman, I informed her all is not as it may seem. She didn't like that, but tough beans! I saw this coming years back, ALL close female executives of mine who I regularly deal with in any one of my companies are ALL close female relatives, NO exceptions. Can't take the risk otherwise, I'm fortunate my close women relatives are very capable and talented. When I have to meet with a company rep who's a woman, I have one of my daughters join us in my office and as soon as the rep walks into my office I point out the cameras above that record audio and video EVERYTHING that is said and happens in our meeting. Even with the cameras, without one of my girls or one time had my niece sit in there's no way I'll meet alone with a woman. RISKS ARE TOO HIGH IN TODAY'S WORLD. This does hurt women, chances for advancement at my companies is very limited for a non-close female relative. Ladies, you wanted and pushed for #MeToo, you've got it. Sad part is if we're being direct and honest about it. Every woman is safe with me, I'm a good guy, the true rapists/sexual assault sickos won't care what the law says, they'll carry on. Thus, women are in greater risk now than before. Truly sad.

She's obviously very effed-up. And not in a good way. All you gotta do is read 'We should talk about Kevin', and that should tell you everything you need to know. Which I just read, and was blown away, not because it was such awesome prose, but because I didn't think a woman could be so nakedly perverse about just what a man-hating, and mainly just mind-bendingly self-absorbed.... shrew, let's call her, to actually write a book like that. Where the mother and protagonist in this narrative, Ie her, basically kills her own child, her son, a boy, by denying him the love and affection she is clearly destitute of, which destroys him... and then has her son's character in his emotionally stunted agony, murder his father and younger sister, her fictional husband and daughter, while also shooting up a bunch of his classmates with a bow and arrows. And she was the hero.... But maybe I should admire her for writing such an unblushingly ghastly story. She very clearly tapped her own life, like writers do, in this case a deeply tortured inner life as a loveless, deliberately childless woman, who, thank god never became a mother herself. And while previously a lifelong liberal Democrat, obviously, she now stumps for Trump. Because this is what does it for her now. Because it suits her. Or maybe she's just a closeted lesbian. Good thing I'm fully anti-woke already, because this lady could easily turn me back to the other side. In any case, she is pretty repulsive.

@@charlesargo908 In reality, the jury refused to find Trump liable for rape, because the victim of his sexual assault said she had frozen and could not be 100% sure which part of Trump's body penetrated her. However, after the first trial and Trump's loud objections to Ms. Carroll's public statements in which she used the word 'rape,' the Judge explained that, the sexual assault that the jury found him liable for committing, is defined as rape under NY law.

Nonsense. Each of the charges against him are huge stretches of any reasonable interpretation of the relevant laws and the Constitution. It's also no accident that the cases, with the exception of Florida, were brought in overwhelmingly Democrat jurisdictions by prosecutors/district attorneys who ran their political campaigns on "getting Trump." Even in Florida, Jack Smith went to a New York jury to get his indictment. Although I don't know you, I do doubt you will ever face such a coordinated legal attack. If these tenuous cases are the best they could come up with as proof of Trump's supposed overwhelming perfidy, he must the be cleanest NY businessman and U.S. President of the 20th and 21st century.

The bulk of the damages he's going to have to pay (your "weak" whining defense not withstanding) came from his continued defamation of her, not the original conviction. His schizophrenic "defense" consisted of name calling, unsubstantiated and often contradictory claims, and misapplied legal precepts. But regardless, he's still going to have to pay up! Then there's the additional financial damages coming from the two "unfair" New York cases, plus the "unfair" NY criminal case involving jail time, that you haven't addressed yet.

You do know there's not a shred of evidence apart from her accusation, no date in case Trump had an alibi, the law was changed specifically to bring this case, Carroll lying about having Trump DNA on a dress not even made before 1994 and her many positive Tweets about the Apprentice were withheld from evidence by the judge? The case is pathetic. It's proof Trump is being attacked with lawfare.
