I have 6 kids and shop at Costco and NEVER buy these kinds of things!!! I never buy meat at Costco, only on sale from Kroger. This is sooo ridiculous. We spend $600-800/ mo for our family groceries

Also keep in mind that purchases from Costco, such as the French's organic mustard, is most likely a multi pkg of large sized bottles, not just a single normal sized container.

The $7 49 for Pinto beans is probably an 8-10 pack. Just to read an item on a Costco slip is not as if you went into a normal grocery store and bought a single item.

Hubby and I eat keto. We beat multiple health issues by eating keto. Hubby kicked type 2 diabetes to the curb. We feel better than we ever have. Keto is the most expensive diet. We used to shop at Costco and spent a fortune. Plus I ordered grass fed meat. Was not unusual for us to spend $1800 a month for the two of us, and our 3 dogs. But I started analyzing that, and doing things so differently. Needless to say I don't shop at Costco much anymore. I have cut our food bill almost in half by shopping sales and at Aldi. Went to Aldi today.......spent $102 and got a lot of food. We have friends that spend $30,000 a year on food for two people, but its all high end groceries and wine. I have set a budget, so I am going to stay $1,000 a month or under......that includes homemade food for my dogs, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc.

We live in CT. It's just the two of us. We eat no grains because of food allergy and intolerance....(never mind weight gain!) very little beans or corn and we purchase mostly organic, free range, wild caught. We don't buy cigarettes or processed food . We cook at home, eat few meals out and drink very little alcohol (neither of those are included in our food bill anyway.) We buy from local farmers, a co-op and other grocery stores including a few things from Whole Foods as needed and we have a very small kitchen garden. Our bill is regularly $250 to $300 per week and we base our menus on sale items and buy things in bulk where we can. AND there is no waste. I often wonder what people are eating that allows them to live as cheaply as they do and if the trade off they are making is their health. My husband and I are in our mid to late 60's. We take no prescriptions; our weight is in normal range, we exercise regularly, we see no physicians. I came from a medical family and my career was in health care. Nutrition is incredibly important to us. I think some of this is based upon where you live, but to me it's a choice.....pay the grocer or pay the doctor.

My Monthly budget for our family of 6 (2 adults, 2 teens, 2 tweens) is $500 a month, and that includes extras to can/stock ups. We eat well, a variety, fresh foods, and have more than enough. People keep trying to argue with me I am lying and it's not possible, we must be eating like birds and only rice and ramen... I tell them I get most of our meat for under $2 a pound and they call me a liar again. Then I direct them to Walmart where you can get chicken leg quarters for $.59 a pound.....

Meanwhile, ild be making chicken stock on all the learning curve chicken thighs as needed; along with the trimmed off bones and skins.

One thing I have to say I have noticed since trying to teach military wives how to budget better for groceries is younger adults aren't shopping around at all. They go to one store that they assume has the lowest price (Walmart) and just buy whatever they want. I tell them I compare 4 stores and RARELY buy anything at Walmart except canned goods and people are shocked but their price for unit is almost never cheaper for me. I've also seen a lot of snootiness when it comes to groceries they HAVE to be specific brands and organic blah blah blah without actually comparing other products.

Costco is a bulk store. So if he was getting mustard, he'd be getting like 2 mustards, the paper plates. He's getting a big stack of paper plates for that price. Costco is supposed to save you. Money. By buying a bulk, I don't seem to think so a lot of their stuff Is organic That's why people shop there. I do instacart, so I see the prices and the differences in stores. You could eat on less than $2500 a month, sorry, hejust don't know how to shop Driving around to save a couple cents in the long run. If the stores are close, it makes sense catch the sails

It was Christmas time of either '21 or '22 that a utuber talked of not buying table grapes even though grapes were on thier list and in thier meal plan because that week they were $12.99/ lb. It seems as if when we left the front door of our homes amid supply shortages in '20 then traversed the height of shrinkflation and inflation '22 a lot of folks wanted to return to what they remembered "normal" to be by buying all the grocery things through every season. In addition to bacon and 8oz-16oz glasses of ready made orange juice, folks are beginning to consider year round, week-in, week-out strawberries a grocery shop staple. The list goes on.

Maybe the difference is because of age. Two teen boys, swimming teen girl. And three adults. Organic is just milk and eggs, yes, I could feel the difference. No fast food, no frozen dinners. But we don't have 1 dollar chicken tights in Toronto. For last ten years. We have some allergies, but no special diet. How are you doing it? Giving seven people all nutrition groups?! Diverse protein - not just chicken and tilapia (just for example, I trying to think how could I go with 250 per week. One chicken for a week for all, including cats. And I would start ration portions), so it should be some beef, some poultry, some fish (phosphor and omega), dairy, not just milk, but yogurt, cheese, sour cream. Veggies and fruits even in season - not cheep. Yes, I can take what on sale. But is still would be basically same staff. I never see salat on sales! Apples week after week? Children will stop eat them after two or three weeks in a row. Sweets - cheep staff from stores is sugary poison. We have family history of diabeties. So, I bake. And I bake almost every day, because it is gone the moment from the oven. For 250 a week it would be the cheapest sweets from dollarama. Please, tell me, how are you doing it for 1000 a month and not compromising health of you family!? I believe that you don't. BTW, only one person in our family is overweight, but getting better since move with us. So we are not overeating, even the cats!

Yes... we have a Costco and a Sam's Club membership. If I had my way, I'd get rid of the Costco and keep Sam's. My husband likes it. I used ro buy food in bulk but would end up wasting a lot because we couldn't eat it all before it went bad. I mostly use Sam's now for non-perishables. They have much cheaper prices than Costco. And like this video points out, Costco has the fancier, gourmet stuff. I do love the Irish butter too! But I have quit getting it now, unless there's a REALLY good sale. Even the Aldi brand of Irish butter is $3.45 for an 8 oz block! We're only a family of 3 and we can maybe splurge on some extras, but I'm trying to cut back a lot of things. Just doing regular butter now. 😂

I would say yes, at least to a degree. We now have a reasonable larder (food and non-food, shelf stable, freezer, and fridge) of which most was purchased at good to excellent proces; some was simply purchased at an acceptable price at the time. The larder items however, were purchased with real money and am contribute to the cost of say a meal. Many of our grocery trips are basically fill-in groceries even if they include a can or bottle of something not in our larder. During this time in our larder life, we generally reserve some of our grocery money for larder stocking or elsewise set aside upto a reasonable sum of larder stocking money then use it on quantity of a limited number of skus to fill the larder when we come across a good to great price; preferably at a great price. Then, we generally don't replentish until we begin to run out and then, we spend the time to price check. There are some foods we will not be replacing 'cause anything resembling the great price we originally stocked up on will never be found again. Buying in quantity at once sure has made shelf rotation VERY easy too.

No, because every month you're buying more for future months. For example, this month I stocked up on cheese for a few months but we're eating home canned foods too.

Ah yes, the Passinis. I know they buy a ton of expensive Italian cheeses and likely import other Italian foods.
