Funny you say that because I bet they used forced perspective to make him look larger. Like they made his side of the subway set smaller and Harry's side normal side. Filmed from the angle they used it would all appear the same size and Hagrid much larger.

@captain4318 Don't be too excited... The show is already hinting at being "updated" for a "modern audience". Rumor has it, Snape, who is pasty white as heck, is apparently going to be ebony black. Just more of Rowling changing crap to appease idiots instead of standing by her original writing. If she's willing to race swap a man who she LITERALLY described as pale and sallow multiple times in the books, who knows what else she'll change. Probably confirming Hermione as black, despite her again writing Hermione as pale and white, blushing and tanning. Heck, maybe Harry will actually be a "trnz" woman of colour for all we know. Or they'll race swap the Weasley family... Hollywood has a thing for race swapping red heads...
@CanadianLoveKnot5 күн бұрын
@dragonmaster1360 I work in the industry, and there is literally a diversity form the broadcaster requires you to submit, as well as to government agencies for tax credits. Highly doubt JK Rowling is the one casting the show. Her only input on the movies for casting was that it had to be all British cast.

Prisoner of Azkaban has like an unofficial official extended cut. Whenever marathons are shown on tv they play an extended cut of Azkaban which includes extended scenes of the bird flying around hogwarts before hitting the whomping willow, a great hall scene after the first visit in hogsmeade, sir cadagan in place of the fat lady etc. I’ve never seen it on any of the dvd sets, but it was always (if not most of the time) shown with the tv marathons

This is an excellent analysis and I noticed this sometime ago that Peacock had the reformatted versions with commercial break blackouts and Max had the theatrical versions. My one and only gripe (and it’s more of a petty complaint tbh) is that I wish they had the extended scenes without the commercial break fades, but otherwise they’re really great to see because it adds so much context to each scene. Watching the theatrical versions afterwards make them feel so condensed. This is a great analysis. Subbed! Thanks for the upload!

I think the reason they cut some of these is for a very simple reason, pacing. While it might seem like the egg scene and the Troll aftermath scene could be kept those scenes just ruin the flow of the movie. The egg scene ruins the montage, and with the troll, it feels like the scene is ending, but then it just keeps going for a few seconds. The Hagrid scene is cut, because it’s unnecessary, like you said our imagination fills in the gaps with regards to Hagrid always wanting a Dragon, and also it includes items from the list that are later restated immediately after in the following scene. I feel like the other scenes are similarly cut for pacing reasons, but the final 2 deleted scenes I disagree the most with removing. The Christmas scene because it adds to the emotional storytelling of the sequence, and the Flamel one because it makes the cut to them discovering the stone feel less abrupt and out of nowhere, and like you said it’s a really crucial plot scene that really feels like it should be there. I also would’ve loved for the Dudley Smelting scene, because Dudley just appearing wearing that silly outfit is weird, and the Snape scene, which is a fantastic scene, would’ve been kept, but I think in the movie you already get the point that the Dursley’s and Snape suck from the screen time we already get, so they’re not strictly necessary. The movie is also already pretty long at 2 and a half hours so while adding 7 minutes might not seem like a lot, they probably felt the movie ended up feeling too slow with all of the deleted scenes in there. Having said all that I pretty much exclusively watch the extended edition of the first movie because those last 2 scenes really need to be there.

I did notice that I think Chamber of Secrets and Half-blood Prince are in dvd format, where I was able get the blu ray version.

@factorfantasyweekly I know. Trouble is.....well for some people anyway...I ended up getting the 8-movie blu-ray set, because my others were in storage, and to get a corrected copy of Half-blood Prince. It had a scratch or something that made it skip from Ron in the hospital....right to the end of the movie. At least I now have 8 watchable movies. One part of the ultimate editions gets me in trouble with others who want to watch the movie....and that is the play by play with commentary. It does sort of a picture in picture, with the cast members talking about the making of the movies. James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George do a good bit of the commentary during Goblet of Fire. Lol

Adaptations are the hardest to write. Especially if it’s a story you really, really like. You want to create the truest, most loyal version onscreen, but you also don’t want a page-by-page translation. Not only because it would be uncomfortably long, but feel pointless to the audience. (“We’ll, if this is just a duplicate of the book, I’ll just read the book, then!”) You also have to sometimes make tough choices regarding what to leave out. Often there are slight consequences from the fan base. Like all those people who asked Peter Jackson where Tom Bombadil had gone. But I heartily agree that anything left out that creates a plot hole or diminishes crucial character development ought to be left in. Either that or explained away organically in dialogue. The thing to remember is that every movie based on previously published material is known as the film “version.” The book should still exist. By the way, I admire your videos very much!

I actually like the final scene better. Even if Harry did it in the book because he got the card after sharing his chocolate frog, the fact that it is this version is very in line with Ron’s character. One issue I have with the theatrical version is the fact that harry says that Hagrid always wanted a dragon. The way Harry says that is as if the previous scenes are all coming together but the subway scene to help tie in is never shown so I knew for years something was missing. Dudley wearing that hat I kinda questioned and what Dumbledore told harry after finding him in front of the mirror of erised makes more sense since the theatrical version easily implies it all happened the same night. I prefer the extended cut from now on.

That scenes were included at the VHS films at the very end after the end of the movie, then became part of the DVD’s special features. Later were added as extended editions. All the DVD and Blue Ray movies contains couple of this deleted scenes. Actually they’re hours of this deleted and non finished scenes that were filmed but didn’t were included at the final cut. It would be interesting have this very long cuts divided in chapters instead having a whole new version of the books with new actors for the upcoming series

I found the deleted scenes by accident in 2002, plaything through the first _Harry Potter_ DVD menus on a friend's PlayStation 2. The 'reward' for going through puzzles and trivia was unlocking 1 of several scenes. Some time after that it was on late at night on the weekend and had a few scenes to obviously pad the runtime + commercials to fill in the time slot accordingly. Of course they became less and eventually non-existent as the series progressed. Geez I miss those Fri/Sat/Sun nights when a channel like ABC or FOX, whatever, hosted a big movie night. They had grand intros, clever segues leading in and out of commercial breaks, and had a good chance to include scenes not available anywhere else. Disney was the best at it. So many memories. :( Edit: Just checking to see whether or not the stupid KZbin bot deleted this comment for no particular reason.

Most of the scenes cut out are not necessary to the story. But I do like the extended classroom scene when Harry first meets Snape and gives a wisecrack answer. It was one of Alan Rickman's finest moments. We were lucky so much of the book ended up on screen. The later books doubled in size but the movies did not (except the last one). P.S. Chris Columbus got some heat because "all he did was film the book". Directors, you see, are supposed to mess with the story to make it their own. Chris Columbus served the book and its fans, not his ego, and set the series on the path that kept it going. So many other directors would have ruined it.
