I absolutely hate it when companies bite off more than they can chew financially and then end up not fulfilling their promises due to their newfound financial issues. If someone borrowed money from a bank and then couldn't pay it back because they lost it gambling or something, they'd be seen as stupid and be told that they had to deal with the consequences of their mistake. let's say it's £10,000 - george has mentoned he dabbles in ISAs, the highest I know of being a 4 year 4% compound interest (each year interest is applied, and the next year that interest is included in the calculation too: you CAN NOT take the money out until it's full 4 years has "matured") - you said 10 to 15 years so let's say 12 years for 3 full maturations - that £10k would have matured into £16k but let's say he keeps doing that: after 16 years it would be just over £18,700, at 20 years it'd be £21,900, etc., until after 40 years (heorge is now 65) that initial £10k becomes £48,000, or after 52 years (george is now 77) it's £76,800. in other words, they're messing with his pension and the chance grandpa george can afford to live for 3+ years if not more, or paying for a grandchild's university/house/whatever

I've worked for companies like this before being made redundant. I'd take legal action against then ASAP before they declare bankruptcy. If you take action against then you'll be classed as a "secured creditor" where they're obliged to pay you from company assets, if you don't, nothing is guaranteed under insolvency laws.

Recommend looking at that statement regarding profitability, cost reduction, strategic outlook and then forming your own view on why George is likely suffering from persistently late payment. Parent companies have no legal obligations to support the debts of their subsidiaries. ie Omnia can fold without taking down the whole of Enthusiast. Directors have no overriding obligations to their customers, they are primarily accountable to shareholders and must focus on the interest of shareholders as a whole unless they have senior obligations to repay bank debt or taxes. Customers and suppliers are not the priority. Promises made outside of a contract are rarely enforceable. Never assume the consumer laws in force in the place where you are located will protect you. If you contract with a Candian company you should expect to deal with Canadian laws at Canadian prices in the event of a dispute.
