They said a Moped couldn't do the Bartang valley in Tajikistan | Moped Travel Mongolia to Austria

I finally made it to Tajikistan and decide to ride the remote Bartang valley, which is often cut off from all traffic due to flooding. Many people advised me against doing so, as it's just too hard to do on a 50cc, but I did it. Don't get me wrong it was really hard, but I and the little Honda Supercub managed and it was some of the best riding I did on my trip. The Landscapes there are just incredible, the mountains, the rivers the green villages and some of the friendliest people i have ever met.
In 2018 I did this trip where I shipped my Moped to Mongolia and rode it all the Way back home to Austria. In 3 Months I covered 13.000 kilometers crossed the Mongolian steppes and went through the Pamir Mountains. All in all it was an awesome adventure I wouldn't want to miss.

I've always thought of my 1982 Honda C70 Passport (Cub) as just a toy because it's so small, slow and low-powered. Now I see that even with 20 fewer cc, these little motorcycles are capable of carrying a rider and all his/her gear through amazing journeys in the far corners of the world. Please keep these videos coming. We're all traveling vicariously with you through your videos.

"It looks so surreal here, where am I!?" Sometimes, in the really remote corners of the planet the enormity of just how far away from home you are sets in, and you go through a euphoric sort of amazed disbelief that you ever got that far.

I agree but the long open spaces and too many shaky shots of the road. The things that make interesting videos are the characters you meet, more info on where you are more post production narration. You did not even show your gear your packing setup etc. Your microphone quality was bad so you could have added commentary afterwards. I am by no means a pro. You could also have mentioned and showed what you ate what you paid for accommodation and fuel. A man stopped you you paid some money we do not know what you paid for, you did not fully engage your viewers.

The fact that the block didn't crack when You rode the hot engine through that cold water (more than once) is a testament to how bullet proof those Honda Cubs were. I remember seeing a video where, as a test, a CB-50 was thrown off of a 3 story roof on to the ground. The fairing and wheels were damaged BUT the engine was still able to start and run. It is Japanese engineering at its BEST. Good Luck on your journeys. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.

I know this is an older comment,but wasn't that a British show? It's 5:30 am and I'm having my first cup of coffee before work,but I remember that episode. They also filled the crankcase with burnt/used cooking oil instead of motor oil and torture tested it and it worked out fine. I remember that,but at this point of the AM I can't remember the shows name😮

I used to tour on bikes, then due to pandemic i purchased a bicycle, then i realised that traveling on slow speed is real joy, on bike you cruise on 90-100 and don,t have the chance to enjoy every bit of your journey, i have seen tourers they go to their destination fast but never enjoy the path on which they are travelling, so my next thing is a honda cub so that i can enjoy every moment of my journey

This is awesome!! Can't believe your bike took the punishment! You didn't show the 2 big river crossings near the top of the Bartang after you drop down into it. These were the worst for us. As a all-year scooterist living in Norway scooting through snow and ice, and super slippery roads I find your travels absolutely insane.. Been thinking about a journey like yours forever. Why wouldn't you rather go for a modern Yamaha Aerox instead ? I've probably had between 20-30 mopeds in my time, and the aerox is hands down the best moped-scooter ever made in history Way more power, durability etc (the speed record was set in Aus, on a Aerox)
@maxitouring
@maxitouring 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks! Well the main thing is probably that I like old things and I am a big Puch fan. Also I'm not a good mechanic, on my moped everything is super-easy to fix which is important. Also my intention was to have an Adventure, those roads are mostly not crazy and I only went on bad road because I specifically went on those, so to improve on the adventure-factor I decided to use the least-suited vehicle possible, and thats I'd say my Moped. Yes if I wanted it to be easy, comfortable and fast I would have chosen something different, but that's not why I did it :D Also they are tons more stylish than those plastic scoots (in my opinion) ;)

Moped?

depends on your definition, in most parts of the world a moped is not defined by the pedals, but by having less than 50cc, which this one is.

13:40 I've seen this guy on other videos. Is this a scam? Didn't seem very official

Seems like a scam, but is not, the territory you drive through there is actually a protected zone and I met another rider who got his permit in advance from the government agency in the capital and it looked exactly the same, so I am certain that it is not a scam.

@@maxitouringOh I see, I didn't realize it was those permits. I thought you could only get them in advance, not just show up and pay there. Good to know :)

How legit are those guys taking money and giving out permits?
@maxitouring
@maxitouring 8 ай бұрын
They are in fact legit, since that same permit can also be obtained beforehand from a government office. Actually met someone who had done that and it looked the same. So while it may look scammy it is legit.

@@maxitouring thanks so much for the reply! Il hopefully be doing the same in a year. Just looks dodgy... Some guy flagging you down in the middle of kinda nowhere. Cheers.

@@grahamambridge2856 if you get yourself the permit beforehand, you can just show it and continue, might be a better alternative
