It's pretty simple! I built a 24x24 on my own. I had a guy come in with a backhoe to dig for my footings. I laid out the wood for the concrete forms and took my time to make sure they were perfectly square and level with a laser, then put in the crushed rock and packed it down. When the concrete guy came for the pour he said it was the best form job he's seen. Before he showed up, I had laid out the vapour barrier, rebar and mesh. I helped do the pour and float the concrete as it was a cash job on his off time... Ask around and you might find a dude! Framing something like this is easy, there is a lot of info out there for how to do it. I bought pre-built trusses because of the 24' span. I did the steel roofing, very simple, took a weekend. When I did the siding I rented a pneumatic roofing nailer that I had a siding tip for. Did that in 3 days of solid work. I'll probably end up building another on my next house, and there is no way I'd hire out the contractor. You'll save thousands. Buy some quality tools. A miter saw, a skill saw, a framing nailer saves so much time. Squares, hammer, chalk line, a level and a couple tape measures. It's really that simple.

Hi There I have been watching your video for a while really like them ! In this video I didn't see you plumb the walls I did see you show the level and walk around the build with it but I'm confused . How did you get top of the wall straight (top plate) I can't remember in all your video if you show how to plumb and straight walls if you have can you drop a link. Also when you layout for 16 OC do you layout by doing 16 OC then subtract 3/4 of inch meaning 15 1/4 our just do 16OC mark for stud our rafter . I'm also confused about that I see other just go to 16OC with out doing the 3/4 of inch subtract what do you do if I'm make any sense with that . I'm going to build my own garage and I'm looking for all the information I can get . Now I'm going to my kitchen and cook my thanksgiving dinner who I'm kidding I'm going to my sister house watch her cook and drink a couple beers and watch the games 😃

I kinda showed it in this video…I eye the eve walls to straighten them, and plumb down from the ridge on the gable walls. Yeah, I lay out at 15 1/4. And finally…enjoy your beers, and go Lions!

1st time watching one of your videos. Curious why no synthetic or felt paper on that osb roof at least before the rain? Perhaps your video is specifically about your incredible ability to build all this alone… not the additional parts. Experience clearly makes things go faster. I built my first shed a few years ago and damn it seemed like it took forever. 14x14 and I needed help with trusses and a whole lot more. Very nice and efficient job you do.

thanks for making these videos...i'm about half way through all your builds and i'm thinking of pulling the trigger on doing a self build garage. i am undecided whether to go the metal building (versatube or similar) route or stick. i'm sure this varies based on location (i'm in houston, tx) but do you have a idea on your marterial costs per square foot for a build like this one to get it to this point (no shingles or siding)? not including concrete because i think you mentioned where you're at it required 36" footers which seems to drive up the cost alot from numbers i've heard you and others throw out. thanks again, keep it up and stay safe

Everyone in the trades out here are busy with home builds for the upcoming growth that's expected. Id be interested to see what it typically costs in other parts of the country. Regardless great work and i look forward to following along.

First off , love the work you doing. I have a question because I'm thinking about building my own garage. How do you mark for bolts in the cement. Using 2x4 or 2x6
@MyDIYAdventuresАй бұрын
I just lay the plates down next to the bolts and transfer measurements…you can always do it the old fashioned way and just line your plates up on top of the bolts and whack em with a hammer to mark their spots.
@2nickles647Ай бұрын
Three options. 1. Take your set of plans with you when the foundations is poured. Your plans will indicate where the bolts will be set. Following the plans, set the bolts into the foundation. 2. Lay the plates down, next to the bolts and transfer them. 3. Stand up the walls and drill for the bolts and set them, if code allows.

I did something similar . 22x 24 seemed like an optional size next to my house . I kept track of my hours to completion . Form . slab , frame , window and door install , roofing and vinyl siding .. Took 48 man hours and cost $4500.00 complete .. Had I had " Help " it would have taken me 3 times as long .. I am a carpenter by trade and generally built the whoppers with a 10 man crew . There is an optimal crew size for every project . I don't know what you charge or charged . These little garages sold like hotcakes for $25,000 with $5,000 in material back 15 years ago .Made a knot on weekends . Unfortunately I had to hang up my tool belt because of cancer . I used to wonder to myself .. Why do I build these gargantuan lake homes in gated communities when I can build an easy little garage . I think I liked to frustrate myself . Peace

We used to run with a 3 man crew, myself, another carpenter, and a helper. That was pretty optimal for any size garage and small additions. If we had a huge addition to do, we had our siding crew help us, which was 2 more guys. Since I’ve been working alone for the last several years, I’ve come to enjoy the small 4 day builds…keep it simple👍
