I'm a pretty new subscriber and could watch this stuff all day. I had a thought since you mentioned being one person lifting those micro-lams. I grew up in the masonry business working for my father as his hod carrier, so the first 18 or so years of life I spent picking up heavy things. If you had 4 6' scaffold frames that would get you 12' high. If you sat it up at the openings and put out riggers up and spanned them you could hook a hoist to it and wrap the beam with a tree saver strap to hoist them up then steady everything into place. It seems you always have electricity. I don't know it may be too much work and and time a pain to carry with you. I'm 58 and everything hurts and a lot of injuries, so I do a LOT of thinking about lifting things. I have more hoists and lifts in my barn than you can shake a stick at and a tractor with pallet forks and all sorts of attachments. You do nice work, I did some rough in on the other side of the family. Hand in there.

Look into portal frame openings when you have narrow wall segments around large openings like the ones in your garage. As you framed your front wall there is not enough shear strength and are susceptible to racking. The structure is pretty well protected from wind by surrounding buildings. But given time and other lateral loads it will eventually fail.
@MyDIYAdventures3 ай бұрын
That’s true that those walls are a failure point, but I’ve never had any issues with them and they do pass code here.
@banjax803 ай бұрын
@@MyDIYAdventures I would suspect they pass inspection due to not being living space. If you get a project with finished livable space above the garage look into the portal framing the APA prescribes and is in the newer code books. APA website also has a good shear wall calculator that will produce a report showing compliance if the design meets the code.

Question, how do you set your sub facia so fast? How are you lining that up with the rafter, so it plains out correctly?
@MyDIYAdventures9 ай бұрын
The way I cut the rafters allows me to use the bottom of the rafter as a reference for where to install the fascia. As for left and right orientation, I screw a block to the end that buts into the end rafter.
