Are you still going to react to The Killing Fields (1984) starring Sam Waterston and Dr. Haing S. Ngor about the Khmer Rhouge revolution in Cambodia in the 1970's? It is a remarkable film about a special friendship between 2 men amidst war torn Cambodia! Please react to it as soon as you can. I cannot wait to see how the film affects you in your reaction. I cry every time I watch it and I have seen it at least 20 times.

'Blackbeard' aka 'Ian mcshane' is great in 'Deadwood' & 'American Gods', Highly recommend both👍 P.S. If your after more pirate stuff have a look at 'BlackSails' another great series 😉 You say its good the spanish destroyed the temple.... i would have to disagree, due to religious groups taking those sort of measures, all the magic has been lost in our world...
@Longshanks16902 ай бұрын
In this movie, the Spanish turn up at the end, overpower everyone else, declare the McGuffin that everyone is fighting over to be an abomination before God, destroy it and then leave. This is the most accurate depiction of the Spanish Empire ever put to film.

24:06 Try infinite years. If Jack had not lifted the curse after acquiring it from the coin, he’d be immortal. Anyone beating the Spanish to the fountain could’ve taken the infinite years from Jack “if fate had been kinder,” so anyone there being used in the ritual would grant the user infinite years. Just having Jack on board and making it to the fountain with the items is the price for “one infinity years, please.”

The story is in part based on the novel "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers - he specializes in historical fantasy adventure stories - but Disney basically tossed out most of the actual plot of the novel and only used bits and pieces and the depiction of Blackbeard from it. The book is in no way connected to this franchise other than the name, most new characters and several set pieces, but it is pretty damn good (Tim Powers is a pretty good writer).

Not surprising Blackbeard had a child - the man had 14 wives. Though if this film is set in 1750, then that would be 32 years after the real Blackbeard was killed in battle against the Royal Navy.

I have three problems with the movie: 1. I watched it in 3d and always thought that many movies don't profit from this technology. Exactly that is the case with this movie. But this is just my preference. 2. The movie was not necessary. They had a good ending with the third movie. This movie is the example that you should end it when you are on top and not keep on going until you are in decline. 3. The story of this movie is roughly based on the book "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers. But the book is so much better than the movie. However, I think Penélope Cruz is a joy and deserved a better story line.

Ian McShane is as close to a perfect casting as you can get. He has the looks, voice, temperament and demeanour to play Blackbeard, this should be a knock out of the park. So it really goes to show what the problems with this movie are that he ends up being one of the most bland, boring and forgettable portrayals of the character ever. There are so many good ideas in this movie, but very few are executed properly.

In the finale of POTC 3, everybody was like "Jack's got the map to The Fountain of Youth and he's gonna go after it" Part 4 wasn't going to happen for awhile and I couldn't wait to see it. The director Rob Marshall made "Into The Woods (2014) and Mary Poppins Returns" (2018). Johnny Depp reteamed with Penelope Cruz (Angelica), a decade after the late Ted Demme's crime drama BLOW (2001) and both still got that chemistry. I like how these movies tackle more of the myths and legends in those times. The fountain, Mermaids, Blackbeard, etc made things more adventurous. This one had mixed reviews. All the signatures we know and Depp still holds it down with good ol' bravado. This installment broke a lot of records in it's year of release and was the most expensive movie ever made for it's time.

The problem that starts with the fourth film (and you could say it even started with the second one to a certain extent) is that Jack gets dumber and dumber with every passing minute - he just becomes this total jerk that I personally hate so, so much. If you look back at the first movie, the character was actually super smart. He was ahead of everybody else, trying to get what he wanted through very calculated lies - his whole drunk personality was there, but it wasn't the most interesting or important thing about him. But when the main character starts to become this drunken loser that is stumbling from success to success, it's just not compelling anymore. It's a real shame. Jack had goals and ambitions, and he achieved them by very skillfully manipulating everyone around him. But most importantly: He had a HEART. Even though he tried to convince those around him that they meant nothing to him, deep down he was a good person who cared. So to me this is the biggest reason why 4 and 5 suck soooo much. They totally fucked up Jack.
