I love every decade of their music. I'll never say anything negative about the Bee Gees of any of their "eras." They brought their music in magnificent style every era!! They just are so gifted, so endearing, I've loved them as little men in 1958 to the cusp of their golden years in 2003 when Maurice died unexpectedly and the Bee Gees were no more. After 2003: there were two Brothers Gibb, seldom together until Robin passed in 2012. And then there was one-- Barry.

Barry said in an interview that even with people, he always has a sense of being alone, his greatest fear, possibly because of something that happened when he was a child. He was obviously referring to when as a toddler he tugged on a tablecloth and pulled a just poured teapot off, scalding himself. His mother said they gave him 20 minutes to live at one point, and he stayed for several months in the hospital away from his family. Afterwards, he didn’t want her out of his sight, and would sometimes had had tears streaming down his face. She said you could hardly get him to speak, but he always had a song for anyone who asked!! You can see the scars on his chest in the 70’s videos with the open shirts. Band members said Maurice would do a comedy routine for friends calling his scarred chest Barry’s treasure map. The story gives a whole new perspective to STAYIN ALIVE!!

The Gibb brothers started performing in the late 50's in Australia when the were just kids. My favorite era, pesonally was the mid-late 60's when they released one beautiful song after another. I bought all the 45's when they were released: To Love Somebody, I started the Joke, Words, How Can you Mend a Broken Heart and others I can't think of right now. No falsetto singing, just deep soulful ballands and beautiful harmonies. ❤

They kept adapting over the years. Started in 1958! Watch Medley 1963 to see how professional they were at a young age. Great later 80s on songs are You Win Again, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Kiss of Life, I could not love you more...oooh and watch Maurice take the lead on Closer than Close...one smooth operator!😊

Did you know the Bee Gees got together in 1958 and they sang through the 60s 70s 80s 90s and even into the early 2000s before Moe passed away in 2003. It was pretty much done after that. You asked for our favorite era? Mine would be the 60s you need to listen to New York Mining disaster, how can you mend a broken heart, to love somebody, and a song you probably have never heard of called world. These brothers have been singing together 50 years they wrote over 1000 songs they don’t have a bad songs I can sing the phonebook and make it sound grand.❤

@@watchbizmatikthey’re my number one search on reactions. If u can watch, how can you mend a broken heart documentary? It talks about their lives from the time they were little a neat thing I remember about it is when they were probably I’m gonna say the twins were three and Barry was maybe six they were singing in their bedroom and their mom thought it was the radio, and it was their beautiful voice is blended together, Quincy Jones said that they have their own instrument with their three voices combined at the very end of the documentary. Barry Gibb gets a little weepy and says sure the hits were great, but he would give every single thing up to have his brothers back again he misses you terribly.😢

I really like this song. It was great to hear Robin singing lead. His voice is so rich. This was their last US hit and that's why it's so sad for me to listen to it. I wonder if they knew, putting in those old clips of their lives. The Bee Gees were singing since the early-60s. They had some hits in the 60s, but the 70s were their height and Disco took them to the stratosphere. Then Disco Demolition happened and Disco died in the US and took them with it seemingly overnight, even though they were so much more than a Disco band. They never really came back, but their tours were popular and they continued writing mega-hits for other artists. It might be good to explore the mega-hits they wrote for other artists like Barbra Streisand, Yvonne Elliman, Dionne Warwick, and Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers, among others.

With all due respect, this trio never lost its appeal. They simply changed with each era. They were popular in the disco era, but that was just a drop in the bucket of their career. You look young, and probably weren't around for the 1950s, 60s, and maybe the 70s, but take if from those of us who lived it, the Bee Gees have always been hugely popular no matter which era. And how many bands can claim 5 decades of hits?? I know of none other than the Bee Gees. Most bands don't even last more than one decade. Some make it longer. But none have over a 1000 songs in their catalog, or as many number one hits. A once in a lifetime talent.
@bryanCJC2105
@bryanCJC2105 Жыл бұрын
@@delenelewis9024 I totally agree with you about their talent and it's true that they never lost their appeal among their fans. However, their recording careers took a huge hit amidst the disco backlash in late 1979. Radio stations dropped them seemingly overnight. You're right, they were so much more than Disco, but it was the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack that took them into the super stardom stratosphere. Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Field in Chicago Summer 1979, sent shockwaves that derailed Disco and spooked radio stations nationwide. Disco Demolition was not really about Disco, it was a racist backlash. Most of the albums they blew up weren't Disco, but they were almost all Black. Artists like Roberta Flack, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, even Charlie Pride weren't Disco groups but people brought their albums to be blown up anyways. Disco is the albatross the Bee Gees were made to wear around their necks by the radio stations after that. The Bee Gees became totally uncool in 1980. I remember, I was there in the late 70s and 80s (and thank you for saying I look young, I appreciate it - that picture is from two years ago). They themselves even admitted as much. You can hear it from Barry himself on the documentary "Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" on HBO. They were very angry and upset about it. If you watch it, keep tissues nearby. It's a beautifully done documentary and Barry tells the whole story, but you can't help but feel so sad for Barry being all alone today. Now, the Bee Gees did remain extremely popular as you said, as a touring band for their fans. Their concerts were constantly sold out. They were also extremely successful writing huge hits for many other singers, and they themselves had a couple of moderately successful songs in the 80s and into the 90s. But their recording success came to a screeching halt in late 1979 as a result of a few very loud obnoxious people and their bigoted ideas. There will never be another group of singers and songwriters as great and versatile as the Bee Gees. They were a once in a lifetime phenomenon.

The song to me is talking about the loneliness of a shallow life, like that of a midnight rider who doesn't care who he pick up and then realises he has no-one. However the video was made later than the song as a tribute to both of his deceased brothers when Barry was indeed left Alone. Maurice died in January 2003 from a twisted intestine and Robin died from Cancer in May 2012. That is why right at the end he is standing jamming alone at the mic. The boys began singing together in 1958 at a speedway and they first appeared on Australian television in 1960. In 1966 they returned to England to go global after getting a contract with NEMS the same company as the Beatles, but under Robert Stigwood, their career was on track to do just that....

That's my favorite era too. I feel bad for these reactors when people tell them about the great songs To Love Somedody, Gotta get a Message to you, Words and so on and then they tell them to go to one of their live concerts from the 90's to listen instead of back to the sixties videos. They were still great in the 90's but they wetr so cute back when Barry was 20 or so and the twins were still in their teens. Just I MHO. Love in To Love Somedody when Mo came in at the end of the song and finished it up with "OH no! You don't know what it's like to love somebody the way I love you." It still makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up. They were great!

I remember when this song came out in 1997 I saw the cd in stores back when it was the thing to buy. I was like damn these old farts are still making music? I bet they sound like shit now like some of these old bands and artists that try to make a comeback and they just don’t produce, but when I heard this song alone?? I was like damn these dudes still got it, shit this may sound better then their 70’s songs and even their 1960’s as well. When Robin started singing his vocals I was like Wow this guy’s voice is just perfect. I saw them live a few years later and they performed this song and I swear on my great grandmothers grave that they sounded exactly like they were in the studio recording this song. Barry Gibbs voice was amazing but when his brother Robin started singing the whole audience went insane he was just freaking spectacular. Bro I ate my words when I heard this song in 97.

I love this song! My favorite decade is the 70s: Main Course, Night Fever & Spirits Have Flown albums. The 1975 Main Course album was superb and pre-disco. Nights on Broadway, Wind of Change, Baby as You Turn Away Country Lanes, Fanny Be Tender ( which youve reacted to) & Songbird are all great & on that album. To LoveSomeody, Run to Me are pre-disco R&B hits. "And the sun will shine" is a beautiful 60s song featuring Robin in the lead. It is about a young man idolizing a girl who is out of reach. Some 70s R&B faves: Reaching Out, Love you Inside Out- (amazing lyrics on Love you inside out), & Emotion (written for & Samantha Sang) are very soulful. From their 2001 album, two super fun favorites of mine: the Title Track: This is Just Where I Come In & She keeps Coming. A totally different sound from the BeeGees in the 2001 album - more pop. ❤❤❤ Yes! Love to see more BeeGees reactions soon!🎶✨️🎶✨️🎶✨️

I interpreted this song as a man's unrequitted love for someone who has not returned his affection ("...the one that you love's got a heart that's made of stone."). Even after an initial time together and feeling he had a handle on where his life was going and having what he thought was a good grasp on love, he ultimately ends up 'alone.' imo.

I think most people who followed The Bee Gees from the beginning in the late 50’s and throughout the 60’s will tell you that the 60’s were their best, most heartfelt era. The 70’s were totally different, where the music changed to disco, and The Bee Gees were certainly the kings of disco. They certainly got a lot of air time during this era, and the songs were great to dance too, but nothing comes close to the 60’s where Robin, got to sing more lead. I think the Bee Gee fans were attracted to Robin’s beautiful, earthy voice in the 60’s where 70’s listeners went more for Barry’s falsetto.
