What never got replaced was the video arcade game machines TV screen. It didn't get renewed. So that way, you won't be seeing the screen flicker. Another thing is: the formula one race car is colored blue, not red. If it crashed: its parts would fly off the race car.

Hey! That's the same model Raspberry Pi I'm watching this video on - it's hooked up to an early 1980s TV! Why do a tube swap, especially when the burn-in belongs to the game! C'mon people, you can't just swap a tube that has Pac Man burn-in in a Pole Position! 🙂 I fixed a few Pole Position (II) boards, but they were low hanging fruit. A battery-eaten PAL here, a bad RAM there... there's a PPII I can't fix, it's doing the good old SELF TEST - PASSED reboot loop. The 8002s are good, the support logic tests fine, it's gotta be that other PAL...

Before watching the entire video, I know this was a LICENSED game. This was NOT an Atari original! It was a Namco game licensed to Atari just like Pac-Man was licensed to Bally/Midway but was in fact a Namco original. The Pole Position II game was also a Namco original. Ironically, Ms. Pac-Man WAS developed by Midway after reverse-engineering the original Pac-Man gamecode! Namco let that slide and assumed ownership of the Ms. Pac-Man code. (They kinda had to thank Midway for developing Ms. Pac-Man. The real sequel to Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, didn't do that well in arcades but Ms. Pac-Man was a huge hit!) I had the Atari home computer port (Atari 400/800 series, compatible with the later Atari XL and I think XE line of Atari computers) of Pole Position. Nice game, decent port! The best racers I ever played are still the mid-1990s Sega racers like Virtua Racer and Daytona USA.

@AvengerII

@@LyonsArcade It's still licensed by Namco! Heck, the old game cartridge I owned for the Atari computers MENTIONED the game was under license from Namco! The Namco license/TM reg comes up on the old Pac-Man machines sold in the US (unless they're bootleg), too! It may be an Atari cabinet but the game code and actual machine that executes that code are licensed Namco product.

Star Wars is a very tough game to keep running, if you do your own repairs and are at a pretty high level you can keep it going but it's not uncommon for it to break often. You can so called 'bullet proof' it to an extent but it's a pretty complex, antique machine at this point. Pole Position is a little easier because the monitor isn't vector and people have figured out how to make those run pretty well, the board set is a thing though.

I'm probably completely wrong, I wonder if the following would work for a gas pot problem.... - put it in the sweet spot, then take a resistance reading. and get hold of a resistor with that value. - add a relay board that connects to some spare GPIO pins if there are any spare on the pi. (I have a spare if you want it) - write a timed script that would switch on the resistor first, then switch over to the gas pot after the pi has done the calibration. Just a thought, like I said, I could be wrong! 🤣
