They Thought It Was Just a Lost Colony but Barely Escaped

When the Research Ship Ibis finds another lost human colony it's crew is excited about the discovery. However, the Ibis's crew has no idea that the small colony's amazing stability over the centuries has very strange and unexpected reasons behind it.
Tlayne, one of the colony's inhabitants, is also trying to find his way in the complex situation of unexpected contact with the Progenitors...

This story is a return to classic science fiction. No galactic empires, space troopers with plasma rifles, galactic pirates, or the like. Just a mysterious colony and explorers facing the unknown.
In general, I wanted to write a small funny story with a slight bias toward horror, but it turned out quite differently. And it's probably a good thing it turned out that way.
I wouldn't be surprised if I have a sequel to this story one day.

Interesting. Did the existence of voudou and the loa get lost in the dustbin of history? The loa are almost an exact match to the idea of mind riders. (Or do you just not know about them?) The sf parapsychological explanation has been used very occasionally, usually in regard to alien hive minds though, and they usually don’t lead to stagnation in the alien species. If I was on that ship I would rethink taking Montez back to Earth. He might be infectious…
