I think it’s a great idea setting aside 20 acres, and a tractor for your kids to run as an agribusiness. Great way to learn and prep for eventually running the family business. Even if they decide they don’t want to be farmers, they will learn how to budget their time. Farming work is never finished.
@anthonycecil829915 күн бұрын
unfortunately they don't have the important safety things, that younger people don't think about ......Having done this sort of thing the last forty years , I have grown to appreciate the tractor immediately tuning off once the seat has dislodged the rider......other than the safety factor I totally agree with this learning experience Tony

My late Uncle Art had 13 living children. 1 went into the Army and returned to Floridia to become the state leader rug supplier. The other children were farmers - milk cows and feed. Art was a large producer of Milk and Cream. His brother drove the milk trucks. The kids and Dad formed a Co-Op and all helped each other for equipment. They rotated on who buys what when. So no one had old gear unless as a utility use. Now all retired and the youngest is still working I remember her as a baby.

I often smile when someone says they will pull a huge, heavy piece of farm equipment with a pickup. I think, “Good heavens, it isn’t the pulling, it’s the stopping that counts.” Just like the automakers touting towing capacity, and not even hint at stopping ability. In the late ‘50s my dad drove a fair distance pulling a rented trailer (not U-Haul and no brakes) to pick up our new barn cleaner , heavy chain and gear box with a 5 hp electric motor. There was a big downhill on the way home. About halfway down he realized that he couldn’t stop at the intersection at the bottom. He laid on the horn and swept through without hitting anyone. Brakes smoking. Stopping ability was important to me thereafter.
