It puts my mind at ease seeing you get into a new helmet, that old one probably wouldn't do much in the event of a serious accident. The EPS layer (the stuff they shoved into the shell) gets super brittle after many years and deteriorates over time, which in turn makes it absorb less and less of the impact in a crash. Most helmets have expiration dates because of this reason, as companies can't guarantee the safety rating the helmet is rated at (SNELL, ECE, DOT etc) after that time frame passes because of this. Arai's are fantastic and I hope that new one treats you well!

Helmet designer from Europe here, it's really interesting to see the way the Japanese work, with 2 years internal training and few but very skilled craftsmen. Very different from the western ways. I've read the even design the helmets by hand, not by CAD. Thanks Alexi!

I understand that not everyone can afford a top tier lid but Arai is worth every single penny. I have been around motorsports my entire life. I even worked in the motorcycle industry for a while. I've seen some stuff and Arai helmets are one of the only brands of helmet I will put on my head.

Apparently the go-pro mounts are what offs or seriously DDoS'es people wearing helmets. When Schumacher fell the stone caught on the go pro mount and was able to redirect all the force on one spot, vs just skipping across.

I have an old Arai helmet that belonged to my late father that I've been keeping in hopes of restoring the crumbling inside lining some day. So awesome to see how much craftsmanship can go into proper helmet fitting. Never even thought about this stuff before.

Nicely timed as I'm also due for a new helmet, the liner of my current one is falling apart. I've always wanted an Arai ever since getting into D1 stuff back in the magazine and VHS days. That was an awesome inside look at the factory! Very cool. I, too, put my helmet on wrong--I tend to start at the forehead and roll it over and down, will have to try the other way and see if it feels much different.

I just bought my first Arai helmet, the RX-7V Dani Pedrosa Samurai Spirit graphics. Previously, I have been using Shoei, HJC and AGV for my motorcycle. From now on, i think i will stick with Arai as someone who wears glasses they fit with ease also the quality is the top notch. 👌
Growing up watching all these JP drift videos online I would always see them wearing Arai helmets. When I finally got to the point I could buy/needed a helmet of my own I was adamant to get an Arai. Bought a GP-5W and been loving it since.
