Perfect way to reimagine a classic movie, Jake was great as Dalton and the inclusion of Connor Macgregor was inspired casting. The villians were hilarious , the location shift to Florida gave the film a great scenic look, the fight scenes were really impressive, the different bands each night meant the soundtrack benefitted hugely. The girl at the book store quoting the paperback book which inspired the original Roadhouse movie was such a great easter egg as was the inclusion of the double duece next door to the book shop.

Funny Story: The captain/skipper on the yacht who got punched for the bumpy sailing is a friend of ours 😀 He and his girlfriend work on the yacht the bad guys used (it was rented for the movie and they used the original crew for the movie instead of bringing in extras and stunt guys because they KNOW their yacht better than anyone) he didn't tell anyone about it until after the movie came out. In that scene we all turned to each other and said "huh...was that Ricky??????" We probably freeze framed it 20 times to double check. The scene wasn't even part of the original script... they just improved it for fun cos the actors and crew were having such a fun time with the sailing crew they said hey lets do something fun with the crew. and it ended up in the movie! He only saw the scene for the first time while watching the movie, called one of the producers afterwards and they just laughed and said it was a fun scene so they used it LOL He says Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor are some of the nicest most humble people they've ever met

I, too, am 44 and have an older brother and sister. My sister and I used to have "crazy for Swayze" marathons. I was hesitant to watch it, but I'm glad I did. I think, overall, they did a pretty good job of pay homage to the original and still giving it it's own identity. There were a couple things that I didn't love: In the original, the guy Dalton killed was in self defense. I don't know if I buy the fact that this Dalton would be unable to stop himself from killing a FRIEND in the ring; just seemed a bit of a stretch for me. They could have had him do an illegal move or go too far and get banned from the sport without killing the guy. I also don't love that he left at the end. Dalton stayed in the original; he found a home and got the girl. The fact that they had him ride off, still on his own, is just a bit unsatisfying.

It wasn't until I found out Kelly Lynch was in it bare that I decided to watch it. I liked it. Though not a real good movie, it was fun. What it definitely wasn't, was a movie that needed a remake. I think remakes get unfairly judged these days, yes you can criticize hollywood being lazy and redoing a story for nostalgia and money, but at the end of the day you've gotta do what these guys do and watch the movie for itself. This was not as good as the original clearly, it had much less story, droned on a bit at times, I didn't like how they CGI'd some impacts so they could show flesh actually hitting flesh. But this was still an extremely fun movie. A lot of people don't realize, Conor just behaves like that really, and his chaotic presence really brought the movie up for me when it was getting a little boring. Besides, watch the original and tell me the main henchman who got his throat ripped out was any more grounded, it's a remake of a pretty campy 80's movie and it knows that. The fights were well choreographed and Gyllenhaal did just fine as a lackadaisical bouncer who seems indifferent to violence, to a point.

It's been a while since I've seen the original Road House, so when I watched this when I kinda ended up just judging it on it's own. I enjoyed it, I might have had a different opinion if I had seen the original recently, but this movie was pretty good without any comparisons to the original.
