Ken Rex McElroy, was a small town bully, in Skidmore, Missouri. He was accused of dozens of felonies, indicted 21 times, but always slithered out of a conviction, except for the last one. He was convicted of attempted murder for shooting the towns 70 year old grocer, Ernest Bowenkamp. He appealed and got released on bond and began harassing Bowenkamp and everybody who'd supported him. One day, he showed up at the local bar and threatened to kill Bowenkamp. The next day, while setting in his truck, next to his wife, on the main street of Skidmore, McElroy was shot to death. Bullets from at least 2 different weapons struck him. This happened in front of between 30 to 45 towns folk. Nobody saw nuttin'. EDIT: there was a book and a movie about it. "In Broad Daylight"

Road House - A "roadhouse" is a bar or restaurant on a road outside a city. Here in Texas, we have another type of bar that is the Ice House. An "icehouse" is an indoor-outdoor beer joint. And a beer joint is a dive bar that sells only beer, setups (aka mixers), and possibly some token wine often out of a box or in those single-serving-size bottles. I'm sure Road Houses and Ice Houses are in many other states, especially in the south. Oh yeah, we can't forget the Juke Joint. Many country and blues bands got their start playing at jukes in the south, although some jukes offer jukeboxes as their only music. You can also call it a "juke joint." The word juke comes from the Southern United States Creole known as Gullah - in which juke or joog means "wicked" or "disorderly." A Juke Joint is a bar featuring live music or music on a jukebox and typically having an area for dancing. In this movie, the Double Duece serves like a combined concept of your typical Road House and Juke Joint bars. ♧ROADHOUSE HISTORY♧ Although the film is set in the town of Jasper, Missouri , the exterior of the films infamous bar The Double Deuce was built strictly for the filming on location in California and then was torn down. Some of the interior were shot however in a real bar in Anaheim, CA that has since closed.

I don't know about Texas but in OK a lot of the bars at least in the 80s still had elements that ran back to the prohibition days and the restrictive laws that stuck around for decades afterward. Bootlegging, protection rackets, crooked laws that benefitted insiders, an entire culture and underbelly just reverberated. Nowadays it is all about tax revenue and "entertainment districts" so the booze flows freely in the open and Jesus doesn't seem to take as much offense as way back when.

Jeff Healey, the lead singer of the band, really was blind, and really was one of the best guitar players ever. He lost his sight from cancer at 18 months old, was given a guitar at the age of three, and played it for the rest of his life. Sadly, he passed away in 2008 from complications due to cancer. He was "discovered" by Stevie Ray Vaughan (another "one of the best guitar players ever), who was on a break from touring in Canada and literally walked into the bar Healey was playing. Vaughan invited Healey to play at his next tour date, and Healey showed up in street clothes. There's video on KZbin of them playing Vaughan's song "Look At Little Sister" together. It's awesome.

They trusted each other enough that they'd kind of ad-lib (or whatever the term is for a fight scene) a lot. The scene where Jimmy hits Dalton with the log, the log ended up being real rather than a prop.

The leaded or unleaded question is a reference to when gasoline came in leaded or unleaded. Gasoline had lead additives (most commonly Tetraethyllead aka TEL) to improve performance and fuel economy. It also lubricated the valve train and and prevented engine knock. However, it was discovered to cause major health problems like lead poisoning and it stared to be phased out in the 70s. When the term is used with coffee, it means regular or decaf.

I saw movies I would have never thought to watch, as eventually you ran out of things you wanted to see, and just watch whatever to kill time. Over those 2 years and tons of movies, Road House was for sure one of the stand outs, and it is still just as good today as it was back then.

You two are adorable! Love watching your reactions. This movie brings so many memories of the clubs in the late 1980's! I recall a lot of bar fights! haha

The auto shop owner Red is Red West he was part of Memphis Mafia Elvis' bodyguards. He was also a stunt man, I believe his last movie was Tombstone. He was the stagecoach driver. That brought Billy Zane and Dana Delaney to Tombstone.

The doctor is Kelly Ann Lynch is an American actress. Her film credits include Cocktail, Road House, Drugstore Cowboy, Desperate Hours, Curly Sue, Heaven's Prisoners, Mr. Magoo, Charlie's Angels and Joe Somebody. She also played recurring roles on the cable shows The L Word and Magic City.

Hi guys. Kelly and Jane are not related in any way. She has been in a ton of movies. Drugstore cowboy with Matt Dillon and Cocktail with Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown for two. The waitress (CarrieAnn) was played by Kathleen Wilhoite. Morgan was the big guy with the beard who Dalton fired first. He was played by Terry Funk who was a former pro wrestler. A Roadhouse is another name for a random place where you can get a drink and a meal.

"I ain't got twenty bucks!" 🤣 The actor pimping his wife's chest was a famous voice actor for a lot of cartoons. 1980s voice for Starscream and Cobra Commander 🙂👍 Plus Morgan the bouncer who gets fired is pro wrestler Terry Funk 👍

He was also the original voice of Mr. Burns in season 1 of The Simpsons. Harry Shearer has been playing Burns for over 30 years now, but he is mimicking the voice Chris Latta created for the character.

Years ago I had lunch in Nashville with Marshall Teague, Jimmy in the movie. He was from Newport Tennessee, served two tours in Vietnam, was a martial artist and a cool guy. He's also a pilot in Armageddon.

Jimmy played a great villain in this movie, I heard he was a great guy in person. Great scene between him and Swayze when they first meet in the parts store, the look they give one another.

I’ve heard him do radio interviews in the last several years. Sounds like really interesting and cool guy.
