Fun fact: Patrick Swayze was originally going to be the lead in Predator 2. But he injured himself during filming of Road House. So the lead role went to Danny Glover and Patrick Swayze ended up doing Ghost.

Sam Elliot isn't cool because he has a mustache. Mustaches are cool because they have Sam Elliot. The mustache that is lucky enough to be his is automatically the coolest mustache. The exception to this rule is Tom Selleck's mustache.

Ken Rex McElroy, was a small town bully, in Skidmore, Missouri. He was accused of dozens of felonies, indicted 21 times, but always slithered out of a conviction, except for the last one. He was convicted of attempted murder for shooting the towns 70 year old grocer, Ernest Bowenkamp. He appealed and got released on bond and began harassing Bowenkamp and everybody who'd supported him. One day, he showed up at the local bar and threatened to kill Bowenkamp. The next day, while setting in his truck, next to his wife, on the main street of Skidmore, McElroy was shot to death. Bullets from at least 2 different weapons struck him. This happened in front of between 30 to 45 towns folk. Nobody saw nuttin'. EDIT: there was a book and a movie about it. "In Broad Daylight"

Road House - A "roadhouse" is a bar or restaurant on a road outside a city. Here in Texas, we have another type of bar that is the Ice House. An "icehouse" is an indoor-outdoor beer joint. And a beer joint is a dive bar that sells only beer, setups (aka mixers), and possibly some token wine often out of a box or in those single-serving-size bottles. I'm sure Road Houses and Ice Houses are in many other states, especially in the south. Oh yeah, we can't forget the Juke Joint. Many country and blues bands got their start playing at jukes in the south, although some jukes offer jukeboxes as their only music. You can also call it a "juke joint." The word juke comes from the Southern United States Creole known as Gullah - in which juke or joog means "wicked" or "disorderly." A Juke Joint is a bar featuring live music or music on a jukebox and typically having an area for dancing. In this movie, the Double Duece serves like a combined concept of your typical Road House and Juke Joint bars. ♧ROADHOUSE HISTORY♧ Although the film is set in the town of Jasper, Missouri , the exterior of the films infamous bar The Double Deuce was built strictly for the filming on location in California and then was torn down. Some of the interior were shot however in a real bar in Anaheim, CA that has since closed.

I don't know about Texas but in OK a lot of the bars at least in the 80s still had elements that ran back to the prohibition days and the restrictive laws that stuck around for decades afterward. Bootlegging, protection rackets, crooked laws that benefitted insiders, an entire culture and underbelly just reverberated. Nowadays it is all about tax revenue and "entertainment districts" so the booze flows freely in the open and Jesus doesn't seem to take as much offense as way back when.

In the 80’s, a gas station always asked you if you wanted “leaded or unleaded” gasoline. This was until leaded gas was banned in the mid 90’s. The remark about the coffee being leaded or unleaded is referencing regular or decaf coffee.

Jeff Healey, the lead singer of the band, really was blind, and really was one of the best guitar players ever. He lost his sight from cancer at 18 months old, was given a guitar at the age of three, and played it for the rest of his life. Sadly, he passed away in 2008 from complications due to cancer. He was "discovered" by Stevie Ray Vaughan (another "one of the best guitar players ever), who was on a break from touring in Canada and literally walked into the bar Healey was playing. Vaughan invited Healey to play at his next tour date, and Healey showed up in street clothes. There's video on KZbin of them playing Vaughan's song "Look At Little Sister" together. It's awesome.

It was during the filming of that second fight that Patrick and Marshall found respect for each other. They each realised that they were both just dedicated to making as good a fight scene as possible so they ended up striking up a good rapport and respect that way. They trusted each other enough that they'd kind of ad-lib (or whatever the term is for a fight scene) a lot. The scene where Jimmy hits Dalton with the log, the log ended up being real rather than a prop.

If you couldn't tell, this was made as a modern Western. It came out when I was in high school, and my friends and I saw it three times in the theater. If Point Break is 100% pure adrenaline, Road House is 100% pure testosterone. But it actually did not do great at the theater. It was only after it hit TV that it achieved classic status. Fun Fact: Sam Elliott said in an interview that the first cut of Road House was three and a half hours. He said his role was actually much bigger but most of it got cut.

The leaded or unleaded question is a reference to when gasoline came in leaded or unleaded. Gasoline had lead additives (most commonly Tetraethyllead aka TEL) to improve performance and fuel economy. It also lubricated the valve train and and prevented engine knock. However, it was discovered to cause major health problems like lead poisoning and it stared to be phased out in the 70s. When the term is used with coffee, it means regular or decaf.

And Sam Elliot is now regularly on Family Guy to bring it full circle. Really enjoyable reaction guys, I'm always excited for the 80's movies, I'm so lucky to grown up through the entire 80's and the best thing is, you still have plenty of great 80's movies left to watch.

Let us not forget the iconic song-intro "Don't Throw Stones" by the band: Cruzados. The Jeff Healey Band was great. Let's also throw some love at the band chosen with the honor of opening up this cult classic flick!

I had a lot of confusion with Kelly Lynch, too. I used to confuse her with Princess Bride’s Robin Wright. Must be the Norwegian Blond hair color. She had an extensive career, mainly in B type movies. She was in Cocktail one year prior to Roadhouse when she played Tom Cruise’s older business partner’s wife. My best friend’s wife. She was also Charlie’s Angels 2000, as Vivian Wood.

I graduated HS right before the summer of 89, and several friends had jobs at the Universal Cineplex so for almost 2 years, I saw tons of movies for free. Sadly most were garbage(as most movies often are), but every once in awhile, you got a diamond in the rough, and Road House was one of those films. I saw movies I would have never thought to watch, as eventually you ran out of things you wanted to see, and just watch whatever to kill time. Over those 2 years and tons of movies, Road House was for sure one of the stand outs, and it is still just as good today as it was back then.

Road House is one of those movies I'll always watch if I come across it on TV. Always seems counter intuitive to me that Dalton seems to stay healthy, not drink, makes stank faces at pastries, practices Tai Chi and martial arts, but smokes first thing in the morning. So fun to see the both of you laughing but trying not to at 22:26!

The scene with Dalton, Elizabeth, and Wade at the diner is such a great character building scene. Elliot and Swayze have incredible chemistry. Was hoping a Wade/Dalton sequel would have happened, but when they killed off Wade, those hopes faded (although could have been a prequel kind of thing, I guess).

Hi guys. Kelly and Jane are not related in any way. She has been in a ton of movies. Drugstore cowboy with Matt Dillon and Cocktail with Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown for two. The waitress (CarrieAnn) was played by Kathleen Wilhoite. Morgan was the big guy with the beard who Dalton fired first. He was played by Terry Funk who was a former pro wrestler. A Roadhouse is another name for a random place where you can get a drink and a meal.
