Not even all cultures on Earth adopt the Principle "Don't kill the Messenger". One of the reasons I am loyal to my Western civilisation. It allows me to exercise a reasonable approach to problem solving. So it's a pity the attempt to establish a "Brotherhood of man" has been systematically demolished by mostly eastern civilisations.

If they're going to be dead in 10 minutes and their communications are down what was the point of the elaborate way of giving the "message". They can't share the message. They don't have time to utilize anything he tells them. The net result is they're dead and none of their people are going to know why. No actual "message" is being sent other than the human making them squirm for the next 10 minutes.

Perhaps he was the "carrier" of whatever was to kill the aliens. He just needed to give it time to circulate through the ship. And for the recorders to store the Four Rules, for the ones that came after them. Presumably the conversation would be transmitted to their home before they died, so that no more of their kind would be killed by the "deadly humans".

This is a disheartening and heartbreaking story. But it certainly gets me thinking about how our world has developed during our time & during our recorded history. 😮 I checked out your Amazon link. Is this a good way to avoid the negative onslaught of social media? It’s interesting how you have brought your storytelling ability along. It’s very good that you are sharing your stories with the community now. I didn’t discover until fairly late in life that I can make music. I come up with several new songs a day. I don’t know where they come from, but it’s very fulfilling to go around singing my own songs all day long. I guess creativity continues for a lifetime & we can get some real surprises.

@IamJustJ.
@IamJustJ. 3 ай бұрын
It's not stupid, you missed the key detail at the beginning of the story: Xtlda was recording the interrogation and spoke into the recorder. The human only needed to bring in a foreign microorganism (or possibly even radiation) known to kill the aliens in question which would leave the recording of the situation intact. Critical thinking is required to discern the scenario and its implications.

I think people are declaring a bad ending without considering the story of how the laws came to be. It is always the same thing as the ending, only with different details. I thought it was a literary cheat at first, but I don't believe it was because of how well the end complements the narrative. You have to look at the narrative of the laws as being in the same story as the ending instead of thinking of them as separate events. That is the 4th law: Humanity destroys what it comes in contact with. Or maybe I'm wrong in a more imaginative sort of way.
