Holy Cow!!! There’s a time back in the 90’s when I was staying @ a place called Elk Horn Lodge in Chama, NM… I decided to go to Heron Lake near Chama & spend the night under the stars… Didn’t take me long before I realized I had put myself in danger!!! I gathered up my sleeping bag & hightailed it back to the Elkhorn Lodge POSTHASTE!!! The night was BEAUTIFUL… In the beginning, I felt perfectly safe… However, after hearing indistinguishable “sounds” that did NOT sound “friendly”… I packed up my bedding & returned to the Elk Horn Lodge as fast as I could get there!!! Chama, NM is just south of Pagosa Springs, CO… I’m convinced that I should have NEVER done something as STUPID as this!!! I’m almost 71 now!!! Female… Mother, grandmother & great grandmother!!! I read years ago the Forest Service found several or more Sasquatch bodies after Mt St. Helens erupted in 1980. The story supposedly came from a retired Forest Service agent who witnessed loading Bigfoot bodies in pickup trucks. Surely, the government and the Forest Service seem to actively squelch Bigfoot reports. Numerous Forest Service officers have reported encounters but usually years later. A citizen in Florida reported hitting and apparently killing a Sasquatch with his pickup truck on a dirt road and called the police. The police and several other official vechicles arrived and after his initial report he never heard anything more about it. There’s a lot of these kinds of cover up stories floating around usually by people who initially had the Bigfoot encounter.

I agree that they should not be shot needlessly. In cases such as this though, where the creature is actively chasing people are a different story. In this case the father would have been 100% justified in shooting the creature (had a firearm been available). I would say that it would be irresponsible as a father not to. I know I would have. The fact that it didn't end up attacking them is of no consequence in the decision because they could not have known at the time that it would turn away.

Hi Chris, and thanks for sharing this spooky story! I'm digging the cabin setup, and the Accumulation IPA! :) There certainly have been many stories of government cover-ups here by Mount Shasta over the years. I also believe that these beings of the forest which humans cannot explain simply wish to be left alone. If I may, I'd like to add a couple of things here: The first is that Lassen Peak is the southernmost Cascade volcano, not Mount Shasta. The second, is that the USGS has stated that the claims of Mount Shasta erupting in the 1700s were unfounded. People thought they saw smoke coming out of the mountain from a distance, but those claims have been disproven as far as an eruption from the mountain is concerned. The last confirmed eruption from Mount Shasta was in roughly 1250 AD. No big deal, as I'm not trying to be a huge stickler. Just wanted to share my knowledge of this area. Cheers! You earned my sub! -Uriah (Resident of Mount Shasta)

This story was so touching. I got a little misty eyed when I heard what the father did for that creature. I believe I would’ve done the same thing. If these creatures really do exist, we need to learn to respect them and leave them alone. I know curiosity is deeply rooted in our thinking process but maybe we don’t need to know everything. Because if we did, man (gov.) would find a way to exploit them.

@basecampchris I'll tell you what, Chris. Although I didn't see it, I've been in the woods long enough to know what a biped sounds like and a quadraped sounds like. I didn't smell anything, but I heard and felt the footsteps. I was scared for about the first minute or two but then I got excited at the thought of what it could actually be and I wanted to see it. Now I never go out without 2 trailcams and a digital recorder running at night. If you've never been, I recommend the Jedadiah Redwoods in North Cali. Found a legit footprint trackway there, its a hot spot for sighting's, and the Oregon Caves National Monument. I've done the 11 mile hike there to the top of Mt Elijah and around Bigelow Lakes and I've found footprints there as well where no one would think to hoax.

A similar story from the Mt Hood Nat Forest about 350 miles north of Mt Shasta:...A young fellow was on a forest service work crew which in late spring go into wilderness areas and clean up the trails, remove downed timber from the trails etc to prepare them for the upcoming hiking season............They would go in for three days, two nights carrying tools, chain saws and camping gear...The afternoon of the first day, the boss suddenly told then to stop working, pack up their gear as they were heading back to the trailhead...When some protested he said that it was orders from above, they were pulling everybody out of this area.....Two guys, who were close to the foreman, pulled him aside and out of earshot of the others, asked what was going on....He quietly told them that a "rogue" sasquatch was in the area and had killed someone and so the forest service was trying to evacuate the area........A hour or so later as they approached the trailhead, they were confronted with a group of scary men comin the other way including some tracking dogs... These men passed without any eye contact.... They were dressed like special forces soldiers and carrying some heavy ordinance, Ie: powerful guns.....

Hi Chris. I’ve spent a good amount of time up on Mt. Shasta since the early 1970s taking long hikes and camping in remote locations. I’ve never encountered or seen any Sasquatch, but I’ve been followed silently by something out of sight up near the tree line that was growling very deep growls. The last time I was way up on the “back side” of the mountain I had a very strange and weird experience of being surrounded by the sounds of an old logging camp with mule drovers and an old steam engine and the shouts of men. I had just passed a Ranger who was coming down from the Refuge Cabin high up near the peaks. He had just finished shutting the cabin up for the winter and told me that there was nobody up there where I was going. I thought the sounds were coming from a “Boom Box” at first but as I got closer they grew more distinct. There were grooves around big trees as if they were cut by big cables long ago so all I could figure was the sounds were from an old logging operation. I don’t know anything about so called “Portals” but I don’t have any explanation for hearing something that wasn’t there so clearly.

Could be a bit of residual energy in the wood and stone. If you're not familiar, check out the "stone tape theory." Kinda like nature's own "playback."

I've had that happen numerous times at El Morro, New Mexico, where early Spanish explorers and conquistadors, then pioneers, would stop there for the water. I could "see" the white military tents around the base of the sandstone cliffs, hear the camp noises from the horses and mules stomping and their harnesses jangling, and the soldiers' muttered conversations who camped there in 1849. It was like stepping back in time.

Brilliant story and brilliant story telling Thank you Chris! I only found your channel two weeks ago and I've already watched all the scary stories and missing persons! Was waiting for a new story! My heart wasn't well listening to this one in a good way! Can't wait for the next one! 👀

Wow , that was a good one. You pulled me right in with the story and a great background music plus wonderful narrative, and then the twist came. Lol. What a good story! If Not for my own selfish reasons, may I suggest that you put out more videos if you have the stories and the time. That will put you through 100,000 subs fast. Plus more of Basecamp Chris for me. Lol keep up the wonderful work your friend Kyle from Montana.

Awesome as always Chris. I love your channel, you are my favorite KZbinr. I love when you are in your little cabin room nice and warm. We don't want anything to happen to you on those roads. I remember having one of those sleds I did the same thing, I rode down on my stomach also, and for the same reason you did, it was easy to steer it and roll off it, me and my brother, those were the days 😆 lol. Great story I'm glad they didn't tell the military which way it went. That's messed up that they were going to take the camera or phone if he had one and actually patted him down looking for one, that's truly messed up. HEY HEY HEY CONGRATULATIONS ALMOST TO 80K WOO-HOO before you know it you are going to have 100k WOO-HOO! I love watching 👀 your channel grow, it's so awesome and so are you. STAY AWESOME KEEP ADVENTURING GOD BLESS YOU 🤗HUGS🤗
