As an Asian who lives in the Philippines, I was actually both impressed and envious of the Japanese who stayed true to themselves (their culture still remains to this day) unlike other countries in the Asia especially the country, Philippines I live in, it was such a waste that we have many diverse tribes, many languages, many cultures, yet people prefer western culture so much that we (even I as a Filipino) adapted and became the norm that we embraced today. Japanese were extremely, extremely influenced by the Chinese(just as much as the Filipinos were influenced by the West). Not to mention, the tremendous influence the West has had on Japan. There is no such thing as a 100% pure culture that existed in some distant, imaginary past. Heck even the Japanaese language was brought to Japan by migrants/invaders from Mainland Asia about 2000-3000 years ago replacing the previous "indigenous" "Japanese" culture. The Ainu maybe perhaps the last remnant of that. So the Filipino culture as it exists in 2023 is just as valid as any that existed on the island in 1523 AD or even 1523 BC.
@mckendrick76726 ай бұрын
@@greatwolf5372Yes the Japanese were heavily influenced by the Chinese, but what sets them apart is the developmental history since that influence, along with the preservation of what were considered "Ancient Chinese values". Korea likewise developed a similar mentality. In a way you could call both Korea and Japan parts of the cultural "China" that is「中華」 because both of them believe themselves to have succeeded from the Ancient Chinese culture they preserved while the Chinese living on the mainland were oppressed and changed by successive Mongol and later Manchu invasions. The American influence on Japan and Korea is still quite recent, and although there has been a lot of influence in popular culture, it still hasn't quite rooted itself into fabric of behavioural culture in either country.

As Indonesian, I'm feeling offended. Because I can't cook well enough and almost every video of him hit right where it hurts 😂 I need to increase my skill.

The Uncle Rodger character is hilarious. I love it. Why are so many people being offended on another's behalf? Do these people really have nothing better to do with their time?

I added someone from Australian pretty long ago in a gaming platform, and he added me and we played games online together, he asked me where i am from, I told him i am from Singapore. He straight away got in "Haiyah" as a response, i think he mixed up Malaysia and Singapore lol. But I somehow become proud that Asian being recognized by him as an icon to the western part of the world. I enjoyed his comedy and laughter!

Is he racist ? in our multicultural SEA, Racism is first thing to do to call your friend, if you still call your friend with name means not close enough to be friend.

I'm so happy to see the return of KZbin food videos and reactions. There are even some food KZbin channels that are starting to discover epic meal time. And that makes me happy because I miss them. Just imagine how entertaining it would be if uncle Roger reacted to epic meal time lol.

I’m Thai and grew up in a Chinese family. A lot of my family members and friends love Uncle Roger, and it was quite surprising to see some people think he’s being racist since I’ve never seen any asian think he is. I mean, my Singaporean physics teacher and my Malaysian geography teacher act EXACTLY like Uncle Roger. Tbh Uncle Roger is a very accurate representation of your average 50 something asian man.

Uncle Roger, I am European now living in Canada, and I grew up with shrimp paste and can’t do without. 🥰 But I know what you are saying. I was cooking nasi goreng one day, and the Canadians hated the smell of frying shrimp paste. And I said ‘huh, what?’. What you saying? But they gobbled it up after a cautious spoonful! 🤣🤣🤣

To me, he shows the Asian perspective of how western chefs mess up good Asian dishes, calling them so-called "Asian food". Yes, he may play the stereotypical funny Asian, but he brings a hilarious criticism we love. 😂

Thanks for featuring Nigel Ng (a Malaysian coemdian based in UK) in Project Nightfall. Maybe you wanna try looking into Gaston Pong too. A Malaysian multilingual artist/producer/influencer. And Benjamin Kheng (former Singaporean national swimmer turn music creator and singer). And Zak Abel (Israeli descendant UK singer and music composer, from a professional Ping Pong player)
