Those Kashtira are something else. I played a game where the opponent full locked out my board and refused to attack me. I only had the option of surrendering. I made the match last 45 minutes to make sure it left a mark. I hate that the game turns into punishment where the goal is to discourage the other player from playing.

2 big issues with Change of Heart: first, it’s a normal spell, second, it targets as an activation cost (note the semicolon). That means any quick effect that removes the target from the field or any negates or any untargetable monsters all just get rid of a lot of the viability of the card, and the amount of decks that make at least 1 of those things is way too high for it to be good

Thrust and Prosp gain nothing from being quick-play since chain order can’t impact their effects at all (the most you can argue is that they can avoid Ash, but even then that’s not really super relevant as you’d still have to bait the Ash the same as if it stays as it is), and Talents doesn’t have the same issue since it doesn’t target as cost. The best example I can give of Change of Heart being hurt by being a normal spell is something like Magnifica. As it stands, Magnifica can chain itself and completely void Change of Heart since the targeting is a cost (meaning you target the monster before the chain resolves). In the same circumstance as Talents, you can take control of whatever Magnifica summons since you choose during chain resolution and Talents will always be CL1 (the last to resolve). If Change of Heart was quick-play, though, you could use a card or effect, then when your opponent tries to Magnifica, you can Change of Heart the Magnifica. Since its effect can’t be used twice per chain, it would fizzle and you’d have an extra body. The opposite order doesn’t work since you’d have a face-up Change of Heart and therefore couldn’t use imperm. Another example is Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon. If it uses its effect and Change of Heart is a quick-play, you can take one of the materials that it can use to do its summon, otherwise you can’t stop that

For reference on mentioning imperm specifically, that’s one of a couple cards that could be used only with a cleared board. If you have another quick-play spell like droplet or something it would also work, but the fact is that it not being quick-play hurts it because the targeting is a cost

Change of heart was scary back in the day because there wasnt much special summoning in old school YuGiOh. SO when you T set and pass and your opponent hits you with Change of Heart and tributes it for Jinzo you are pretty much screwed lol. Now adays its alot easier to work around because of negates and cards not being affected. But if you ran change of heart with brain controls and stuff like that it would be pretty annoying.

I actually use Change of Heart in some of my Decks. It's very useful for using 1 of your Opponent's Monsters for your own gain. Hell, my Main Deck is Dark World and I use it to bring a Ceruli to my Field so that I can bring to my Hand to Special Summon Grapha or the new Reign-Beau Monster.

Actually made a Change of Heart monster with the card creator. Duolaus, Shifter of Hearts. Link -2, 1600 ATK, can only be summoned to the extra zone, must be summoned with a Fiend AND Fairy from either field that has been special summoned. Can swap control of any monster it points to. Discard or tribute two Fairy and/or Fiends it cannot be negated.

The issue with pot of greed isn’t that drawing two cards is too strong - it’s just that it’s too generically good not to play as a 3-of in any deck. Fenrir is an insanely cracked card, but it offers a different amount of value to different decks; the card won’t generally win games all by itself, and is at its most useful as a way to boost the ceiling of a hand that is already capable of making strong plays in-engine. The reason Fenrir sees so much play is that it has generically good coverage and utility in most scenarios (it’s good going first or second, can remove monsters or backrow, can be an extender for link/synchro plays etc) - it’s definitely a little overtuned, but as with any generically splashable card, it’s only as powerful as the plays the rest of your cards allows you to make. It’s never really the best possible card you could imagine having in your hand, but it’s almost always a card that you feel will contribute somewhat to achieving your gameplan. It’s also a card that has its drawbacks, and there is definitely variation when considering how good it is in different strategies. In a deck that needs discard fodder and doesn’t have a huge amount of natural boardbreaking ability (labrynth is a decent example) it offers value as both a boardbreaker/disruption and a free card to pitch, but if you’re playing something like Swordsoul the card isnt necessarily an auto-include - you certainly could make a strong argument for playing it, but that deck has non-synergies between fenrir and the tenyis (which compete for the special summon to an empty board), already has a number of good going second / board-breaking tools in-engine (ecclesia, vishuda, yazi, baxia etc) and would rather draw into handtraps than an unsummonable fenrir when they use the draw effects of mo-ye/qixing longyuan mid-combo. Pot of Greed wouldn’t require these sort of deliberations - there aren’t ever any drawbacks to a card that lets you dig deeper and find the starter/extender/board breaker you need. Whilst both Fenrir and PoG are both technically a +1, there’s a huge difference between a card that searches a monster you can’t immediately summon + can remove one of your opponents cards, vs a draw spell that could theoretically find any number of powerful cards you’ve included in your deck. When the average deck only has room for approx 6-10 non-engine slots after taking into account their engine + the maxx c tax (maxx c + ash + usually called by and crossout), you have to ask yourself what role you need the cards in these slots to fill. For some decks, Fenrir alone won’t be enough to stop an opponent with a full-strength board from interrupting your must-resolve plays, and in these cases people often consider playing either a) more handtraps (to prevent the opponent getting full combo in the first place) or b) high-value boardbreakers such as evenly/dark ruler (individual cards that can potentially trade for multiple pieces of an opponents interaction). In general, you need to get your ratios right to ensure you’re seeing crucial cards as often as possible, and have to make decisions about what cards not to play in order to maintain these ratios - sometimes, the advantage of having Fenrir in your deck isn’t worth the trade-off of being less likely to open a key starter or a game-winning handtrap. This issue simply doesn’t exist with PoG - players with meticulously crafted 40 card lists would just be encouraged to play one additional handtrap and 3x pot of greed, which would give them the exact same ratios as before but would give them a 30% chance of drawing a card for free in any game. If your opponent opens fenrir, you are only at a disadvantage if your deck doesn’t have a way to deal with it - and the outcome of the game will be mostly decided by the other 4 cards in their hand. If they open a card that gives them a free draw (potentially more if they open multiples), they’ve gained an rng-based advantage that you simply can’t prepare for - even if you have an ash blossom, burning it on their draw spell just means they can play without fearing being ashed later in their turn.

I use a deck that runs no staples unless you count ultimate slayer (I only run synchros, so it's like a 1/4 slayer), and I've beat decks like labyrinth & tearlament with it. I just need to be REALLY lucky. I might add change of heart instead of slayer. Thanks rhyme.

Monster recovery is one people hardly use. Target one monster on your field, add to hand, shuffle your hand and add the same amount of cards to your hand. Useful in older formats or returning a card that’s targeted on the field.

It's because monster recovery sends the monster on field to deck, not to hand. It's a -2 in advantage on all situations, since you're always gonna want cards on your hand or the grave, not on deck.

As a Cydra player, I can explain what happened with the first guy: He has likely never played the deck before but got his ass kicked by a Cydra player (possibly me, I recognize the name and icon) and copied their deck. He knew the whole summon core first, grab a spell, but he didn’t know what to grab. Then he tried to use Nova’s effect to special summon its own material but didn’t realize he needs a cyber dragon in the graveyard to use that effect so he was forced to use the other effect banishing his own core. Without core on the field or another card in the graveyard, his hand bricked since nothing else works without either one of those and he already used cyber emergency.
