A great scifi and action movie. Kurt Russell was terrific as Todd. In fact he spoke the least amount of words and let his body language do most of the talking for him. In fact for one scene where you see all the boys at the beginning of the movie on a cross country run the lead boy carrying the unit flag is actually Kurt Russell's son who resembled his dad. A top-notch movie for anyone into scifi and serious action.

I had no idea that was Kurt Russell’s son carrying the flag on that cross country run, thats cool as hell…………I’m a retired army combat soldier, I love action and sci-fi action movies but military movies in general. 😎✌🏾👊🏾 I wished that Captain Church would have survived instead of getting killed by Colonel Mekum, I wanted to see Church give Mekum that “I told you that SGT Todd was our best man” look before Todd’s soldier took Mekum and the other 2 officers away to their death…….lol

They don't make movies like this anymore. Even though it was critically panned at the time of its release, I always thought it was a great film. It has aged well, and I think its a good piece on the mentality of real soldiers and the ptsd they face, along with their difficulty to reintegrate into society in some cases. Nice recap.

to this day i always said in quiet in my head my uncle died in Vietnam. he was never the same he was a heavy drinker never talked about what he did what he saw. only when he was drink, he would let a few things slip. sadly in 2005 he took his own life. we honestly need ot take better care of our veterans. the price they pay so we can live the way we do the least we as a nation and society can do is make sure they are ok

this movie to me yes is definitely sci-fi an a work of fiction. but brings to light PTSD. it shows the reason it esist. tod was a soldier that the only life he knew. he was trained since he was young. all he knew was this. an all sudden be was no longer soldier an had to deal with normal civilian life. with civilians it show the hardship he has to go through an also shows that the civilians where also scared of him because the fact he was soldier. it shows exactly the problem people that have PTSD have the problem yes it work of fiction but does show that very well. I don't know if it was attentional or pure coincidence. but it did amazing job showing it

Something I noticed when I watched this movie in boot camp: During the early training sequences, there was a trainee who couldn't keep up. When they came to take him away, he pissed his pants. Later, when Mekum realized how screwed he was, _he_ pissed his pants. My theory is that Mekum _was_ the failure and had been transferred to some sort of Admin group. He then helped to develop the "New Breed" as an FU to the program that he failed in.

Although not “officially” part of the Blade Runner universe, this film shared a writer with Blade Runner. David Webb Peoples has said that he considers Soldier a "side-quel" to Blade Runner because it takes place in the same universe. The vehicles used by the Blade Runners - spinners - are also used in Soldier. Also fun fact: the actor who plays the father Mace is the son of the actor who played the third Doctor Who.

Lots of inaccuracies in the story telling. Like Sandra "ordering Todd to take revenge" which didn't happen, she asked what Mace did, if it was some kind of mistake, what the mission is, can they reason with the enemies and why not. She then asked to help, stating "we'll fight" to which Todd replied "no sir. Soldiers deserve to fight soldiers" then he declared he would kill them all. Otherwise nice summary of a GREAT movie

Just one update would be that the Colonel was a coward. I've watched this move more than 50 times. Great movie. Kurt played his character perfectly. He was a programed soldier. But grew as a person and recognized good and evil. He evolved from a soulest killing machine to a great soldier and a human being.

I've seen this movie countless times. Not a bad overview, but needs a few corrections. Todd's team wasn't killed. Just him, so they thought, & his 2 fellow soldiers that were ordered to fight Caine. When they lost they were all thrown onto a trash ship. Arcadia was a trash planet. The other soldiers were demoted & ended up being part of the crew of the "spaceship" at the end. They followed Todd because he was already their leader. Also, Sandra did not order Todd to kill the attacking soldiers. She told him they, the community, would join in the fight if he could show them what to do. He refused. "Soldiers deserve soldiers sir" he replied. He continued getting prepared & Sandra asked, "What are you going to do?" Camera goes to a tight shot on Todd's face. "I'm going to kill them all sir." Freaking great syfy movie!

More importantly the acting in this movie was genuinely great acting. Not the cardboard acting we tend to get now. Sadly the world is full of people like the Colonel. As to getting the children and training them as soldiers..... Who knows if that is true or not, now or in the future. But it has a element which could be believable. I know I know there will be those who say that is not possible and would never happen. But, didnt they say the same about someone landing on the moon?

Retired military and I enjoyed this watching it more than once. Experience matters…

Great underrated sci-fi flick which is a far better watch than it had any business being when it came out. The only thing that bugged me is the fact that the writers thought we'd be capable of interstellar travel by the late 2020s (given Todd was born in 1996 according to this video's narrator.)

Get the recap right. They weren't beaten to death later. They were presumed dead after the match.
