Once there is 100% EV usage, there'll be no fuel duty income (or ULEZ income). Pay per mile is just about the only way they can do it. Not happy. BUT. They can't solely introduce pay per mile ONLY on EVs, as everyone will suddenly want ICE cars again. So they have to introduce a blanket rule. And they won't increase road tax on EVs, as that'd kill the EV market. Look what has happened to EVs in Australia...

Lithium pricing is already spiking because they cannot meet demand and ramping this is up is impossible for a bunch of complicated reasons. But yes, it won't stop the government from double taxing the vast majority of motorists for many decades :(

Slower cars are statistically more prone to accidents and they are more harmful to the environment on account of their engines not able to cool, and with cars not moving fast enough the warm air they produce isnt being dispursed as it should. How many people are going to die from enforced poverty? They cannot squeeze more money from people already on the breadline because of price increases in just about everything else. How are working people that need vans and cars for their jobs?
