Here in California there are so many homeless, people who still work but can’t afford rent or even health insurance, yet we are going to give anyone who walks across the border healthcare and housing. We have lots of veterans that fought in wars living on the streets. Our over 50 population is growing by daily because they can’t afford rent. We can’t take care of our own but we’re taking care of people who never paid taxes. It sounds worse in New York.

yea, I hear these rose colored glasses farang say things like "Thai government does allow immigrants to abuse the social systems"...yea, thats because in Thailand , there isn't one in the first place. Thailand does nothing to take care of it's population in the first place in the slightest, so how would they be able to allow foreigners to take advantage of a social safety net that doesn't exist.

The problem in the UK is that many immigrants do not assimilate into British culture. They live in their own communities and a lot don’t even speak English. Immigrants who come here to work in care homes are allowed to bring their dependants with them. Which is crazy. The illegal migrants are provided with accommodation free and money and mobiles and we have many of our own citizens who are homeless and living on the streets. Also we cannot get dentist, doctors, or NHS appointments as the country is full !! Thailand is not the same at all. They seem to have a more sensible approach .

Thailand has a culture and identity which they protect. Foreigners cannot work or buy land in Thailand. This allows Thailand to keep it's identity. These European countries would like to keep theirs. Australia is being flooded with " skilled migrants" from India due to Free Trade Agreements. Excessive migration leads to unaffordable housing . You start taking Thai jobs and their homes than you will see how much they like foreigners.

Yes, Thailand has too much to gain from keeping long term farang. They need to keep their citizens employed and have immigration policies to keep the unwanted out. Australia does the same, but it's difficult to sneak into Australia as no borders. You can only come in by plane or boat. How much good this does us I don't know as Sydney was declared the second most expensive city to live in the world behind Hong Kong. A lot of European countries are having troubles because they were trying to help immigrants who were truly and still are in need.

I’ve tried 3 times to bring my wife to the states (all denied) to meet my family and unfortunately my grandpa passed away and now she’ll never meet him. We proved to the embassy that we are staying in Thailand with documentation of our land, vehicles, houses and I don’t even live in the states. They say they don’t know her intentions but yet 1000’s of people running across the border unchecked. We did it legally and paid a lot of money to try it legally. But others can just run across the border without any checks.

Hi Ricky, just to give you an insight from the UK perspective about Foreigners. The main issue is illegal immigrants coming into GB. They are given accommodation, benefits including money, phones, ipads etc. The sour taste is that we have British people who are struggling to make ends meet because of inflation etc., many of which have lost their jobs through no fault of their own and have become homeless. British people pay into national insurance, which includes 'free' nhs (not free because we have paid for it), we also pay high taxes and yet these illegal foreigners seem to be getting benefits that we have paid towards. This is ahead of the British people who have paid in for many years. I don't believe there is the same bad feeling with foreigners who come to work and live in our country and pay the relevant taxes and national insurance that Brits do. Correct me if I am wrong, but in Australia is there not a system where Foreigners have to meet a certain criteria (point system?) where to qualify before you are allowed to take up residence you have to prove you are moving for a job or that you are qualified in x.y.z and are financially secure. This is not the case in the UK which I for one believe it should be.

My big question to the government who does this is: Who will stand up and fight for GB if there’s a need to? Where I’m from, I also ask the same question. Another thing is “government, please take care of your people first”.

You’re absolutely right I think, the majority of the unrest is about illegal immigration of people who claim refugee status when they may actually not be refugees atall 😬 I believe Ricky is thinking about it from the point of view of someone who just happens to be a foreigner in any country and then they hear that the local population wants foreigners out… …it’s very a difficult situation all around.! I have lots of friends in the UK who are just regular people, with regular jobs but as they are not British born (foreigners), they are worried about the anti-foreigner sentiment.! There has been protests against British Tourists in Spain recently due to the numbers causing a cost living crisis for local people there, same thing happening within the UK in Cornwall for many years even 😬 Post Brexit Vote in 2016, the number of attacks on Eastern Europeans in UK went up significantly… …it can be very scary for normal people living in a country they are not born in or not a citizen of….particularly if they have invested their time, work and money into that country.! 😬

It's because of poor immigration management in many countries. As a NZer who has recently returned after 30 years living abroad, it's a completely new country and different country. Unfortunately, many foreign immigrants want to move and live here but don't want to assimilate but rather bring their old country's values and beliefs and they are very vocal, standing up and continuing old fights and arguments. Foreigners in Thailand generally stay out of mainstream society. They don't march in the streets and debate politicians and try to alter the culture etc. Immigrants are awesome and everyone can learn from each other but when they are not open-minded and want to change a bit to suit the new country, they can become a burden. I'm talking about new permanent residents, not 5-10 year expats. I'd rather be living in Asia now and will return in July.

@@maxineb9598 I'm talking about the UK, NZ, Aus, Canada, the US... That's what's happening and that's why so many are getting annoyed at the moment. NZ has a big problem with Chinese immigrants who still follow and defend the CCP, which manipulates policy here and also causes problems for those Chinese immigrants who want a different, free life here. Have a look outside parliament right now in Wellington - you'll see hundreds of Chinese immigrants waving Chinese flags and banners. Many immigrants hold on to the problems from their home countries and try to continue that fight in their new home country. I'm for immigration but in a controlled and careful manner. NZ has let hundreds of Chinese spies into the country over the last 30 years and allowed many into government positions. Masses of land and important businesses have been handed over too. I like Chinese people but not the government there, who have been very smart over the years and have their feelers in many countries through weak immigration management.

Cost of living is getting so high in the world these days and social services are being stretched by more than generous immigration policies in those countries. I think the Thai way of paying to stay is beneficial to the Thai economy but in future may end up changing as more foriegners from all over the world look to take advantage of it especially with Chinese, Indian and middle eastern people looking to move there, in Australia while many people are genuine there are so many economic refugees taking advantage of our system, that i fear for our next generations wellbeing and security. Saying that i would love to spend more time in Thailand and am planning for my retirement accordingly but fear what i leave behind for my family in Australia and if i also could respectfully be welcomed in the Kingdom as a long term retiree. Happy to pay my way and back myself financially and with full insurance medically. I just want a quiet and peaceful life with warm climate, reasonable housing/living costs and delicious Thai food!

Schooling is the least of their problems. Sure coming to Thailand from the west and having a proper foundation and income streams is a good life but if you're raised in some little isaan community you're entire world is going to be farming, drinking and driving around on motorbikes. You're almost guaranteed to be poor and it doesn't even matter what education you have because your options are so limited.

The Thai government has done a brilliant job of protecting Thailand for Thais whilst still being welcoming to long term foreigners and tourists. If Thailand allowed anyone to purchase housing they would make a lot in tax at the expense of the local culture. There would be a lot of disgruntled locals if they couldn't afford housing because of developers with fat wallets and wealthy non locals buying at inflated prices. Or tax money being spent on non locals who don't contribute to the economy.

I have never suggested you go back to Australia. The girls should have dual citizenship in case they want to go to college in Australia or travel there some day. Not sure if they have dual citizenship automatically or not. Yes the Thai government and sentiment here has been changing some, all in the media so far, no laws put into effect. It is sad to me that anyone can get a passport . Convicted felons, etc... all get passports in the USA . Thailand welcomes everyone because their tourism industry is a huge part of the GDP , but with that comes a small percentage of foreigners breaking laws and causing havoc.

The thing you have to ask yourself, why do the people go to places like the UK,Australia rather than Thailand,Malaysia. Free handouts, medical, money, accommodation. In Thailand you as a foreigner need to support yourself and behave or they will kick you out or cancel your visa. Western countries have become an easy target because of their mainly Christian beliefs and handouts. Maybe one day these countries will look back and say ( it was at this point we realized we #$%@*×÷ up). But by then it will be to late. Things are not looking real good in western society, economically, socially, financially.

My spanish is bad...but I always tell them Im sorry my Spanish is bad but its not an easy language for me and then it always works out. Im Swedish , the joke is often they cant speak any Swedish..we mix spanish and english or body language. Most Spanish ppl are not really tored of real turists that are here for a week or two, but the ppl that are living here full ti e and not even try to learn anything. Love the countryside Ricky❤ It’s kinda hard to explain the anti - foreigner situation from my point of view; especially, when living in San Francisco, California. I’m an immigrant who came here at the age of 8…I’m over half a century old now and carry a US passport….became a naturalized citizen through my dad who is Filipino. There are lots of Asians: Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Laosian, Mexicans & depending on where you live, Indians (not native) etc..it’s like a melting pot here! Throughout the decades, I have met lots of illegal Brits, Irish & French here during my college years & it was no big deal. Although, lately on the news, you’ll hear of illegal aliens crossing the border from not just Mexico but from all over Central America if not China & other parts of the world. This becomes a big thing because I think Biden is giving them free housing & healthcare while there are lots of homeless people living on the streets. Too complicated to explain but I understand why there’s animosity in the air! Thanks for sharing this video 😘

The people telling you to go back and take the kids back might not have considered half Thais that have experience at that. The schools in the UK are full of kids that are not very nice most of the time and you can't build the connections you can at Thai schools. A good friend of mine was schooled in the UK as a Half Thai when he was in his teens and he says it's the worst thing his parents did as he lost all his Thai contacts, when he came back many of them were very successful and well connected with the right people here. The kids in the local school here for my daughter are very well behaved and from all different cultures, they get on just fine with no horrible comments or fighting. I would never consider going back to the UK to school there it's much better here.

I live in Switzerland with my swiss born and raised husband. I'm mostly at home with my toddler and kindergartener, so i haven't experienced the anti foreigner hostility yet 😨. I find it hard to make Swiss friends but that might be because my german has a long way to go. Also, I'm not the most outgoing person. 😅. I'm working on it 😢. In my attempt to learn about Switzerland, I' ve bought and read a couple of books as well as blogs on Switzerland including those written by expats living in Switzerland and I notice a lot of them talk about how difficult it is to become friends with local swiss. So i think it's not fair to say that most foreigners(expats and immigrants) don't try to integrate. Unless you're naturally outgoing, it is not so easy to make friends as adults and it is even harder with the Swiss because the Swiss are typically not so friendly like north Americans or Australians. They are happy to socialise and stick with their childhood( school friends) mostly ( "no new friends"). So when locals blame foreigners for not integrating, they need to factor in things like that (can't blame everything on the foreigner). Most foreigners want to integrate and blend in and not stick out. 😢

You really conflate the issues of migration in the UK with migration in Thailand, it’s just not the same. In Thailand you have to pay for everything yourself; there’s no free lunch. In the UK the migrates arrive with nothing, they even destroy their documents. They get free hotel accommodation, 3 meals a day, free money, free healthcare and free dentistry. All at the expense of the British tax payer, in many cases migrants are prioritised ahead of British citizens. If you’ve got no money in Thailand you’ll be deported so quick your feet won’t touch the ground… So fear not, you see, it’s not the same.

Hi Ricky You are absolutely right, but you will certainly get some comments that are negative. In Europe, there are a lot of right-wing winds blowing, but what these people don't think about is the big picture. Many people think that if the foreigners disappear, we will have minimal unemployment and everything will be great. We will not have any crime etc. Simple solutions to difficult problems. In Sweden, we have 30% with foreign descent in the first or second degree, if all these people were to disappear from Sweden, our healthcare, schools, service sector etc. would not function. In addition to that, we have a demographic that would mean terribly much higher taxes or extreme cuts in care for the elderly, but this is not what those who think foreigners should go home to their home countries think about. This is what makes far right parties go forward, simple solutions to difficult problems and people buy these solutions. Best regards Mathias

Agree that looks like a great road to ride. Looks like the area is being fasttracked to become residential. Interesting topic, got me thinking. I have lived in 2 Asian countries 20 years apart. The acceptance of foreigners has changed. There is always that mix of those that transplant their ‘bubble’ into a new country and those that make effort to integrate. Unfort in the main cities of Thailand you seem to have large volumes of the bubble group replicating their western life in Thailand. Bars and cars and Thailand has built a culture around it to support and benefit from it……..until they don’t want to. ( just my opinion). Would there be any benefit to getting your girls into foreign english speaking schools in Thailand, allowing them to touch on both worlds culturally or would this be too $$$$&$ and too far removed from their Thai family life. Are English speaking schools there the domain of expats on company packages or are there other english speaking schools for expats married to Thais. I dont know Thailand very well so just interested based on the volume of foreigners that have made Thailand home and had families

I think you may have been given some misleading information regarding the back lash about immigration in western country's. Australia took in approximately 500k immigrants in the last 12 months & plans to keep this rate up. People are telling the government to back off on this insanely high rate. Property is in short supply & rental property's are hard to get causing prices to go through the roof. We don't have the infrastructure to support these Very high rates. Many are not integrating into Australian society & causing problems of violence. Our welfare & hospital system are not copping. This is happening in a lot of western country's & our quality of life is being destroyed. This isn't at all about race but is about common sense & sustainability. Wishing you & the twins well Ricky.
