8:45 So basically, the USA lost like 10 times more tanks but they still won just because they built so much more of them? How does that prove the German tanks suck exactly? @theaveragecomment10142 жыл бұрын
because they both didn't use similar amounts that graph doesn't work to show which is better. I agree.

Being infantry with tank support is infinitely better than being infantry without tank support. So when Americans optimize their design of tank so they can make more tanks which results in there being 10 battles at the same time, from which 9 battles are German soldiers without tanks, while Americans have tanks in all 10 of those, creating 9 Americans wins against 1 German win, it clearly shows which design is better for that occasion. People make this mistake of comparing designs with comparing thickness of armor or how big is their cannon, when in fact the most important thing is whether they are suited for their task. All Americans tanks had to go to the port being shipped on a cargo ship across ocean and then be used on another continent. So obviously making them twice as heavy would hinder transportation, and would be bad design. So that graph in fact shows how meaningless is to compare Tiger to Sherman. If you make something that is excellent in one battle, but loses you 9 other battles at the same time, then can you really say it’s better?
@giantWario2 жыл бұрын
@@stafer3 If all of that were true, American infantry would have killed more German infantry than the other way around. Unfortunately for you though, that's not what happened. Also, the Germans had so many fuel problems that they were still using horses to transport most of their equipment. So even if they could have built 10 times more tanks, they still wouldn't have because they would have just been sitting there uselessly. And mind you, even if you were right, none of that changes anything when discussing which is better. People are discussing which is better from the perspective of the soldiers, not the generals or politicians. If you're in a Sherman tank and all of your rounds just ricochet off a German tank's armor at which point you're just one-shot by the enemy, I can guarantee you that the fact that some other Sherman tanks are winning somewhere else doesn't suddenly make your tank better from your perspective.
@SuperCatacata2 жыл бұрын
@@giantWario The Americans and Canadians had many more restrictions in making tanks than the Germans ever had. Biggest of which is transporting such a massive supply of armor across the sea. Of course they could've made much bigger and better tanks if they weren't required to he shipped in mass to the troops as quickly as possible. The shermans performed their support role much better than German tanks ever did. With much more limitations. That's why there were like 500 different alterations to the basic sherman design. You can't compare their effectiveness strictly on how many infantry they killed per tank. The two tanks are better at many different things. A smaller sherman would've been more economical too since you brought up oil consumption. Meaning more could be used with the same resources at once.
@stafer32 жыл бұрын
@@giantWario “If you're in a Sherman tank and all of your rounds just ricochet off a German tank's armor at which point you're just one-shot by the enemy, I can guarantee you that the fact that some other Sherman tanks are winning somewhere else doesn't suddenly make your tank better from your perspective.” But you realize how such perspective is biased, right? If Americans didn’t send any tanks at all, then from perspective of those in a tank, they would be nice and safe behind ocean in their tanks that weren’t send. Every design decision is about balancing advantages and disadvantages. And especially since you know that Germans are low on fuel. So they are forced to make small number of big tanks, that can’t be used everywhere at once. Not using such weakness by opening multiple parallel tank battles where Germans can’t have tanks in all of them would be waste.
