The dramatic changes in Eric Burdon's appearance and character from the first video you watched to this one shows the cultural changes of the time. We all went through some very dramatic changes. Some for the better, some not so much. But the music was awesome.

It shows Eric was able to keep reinventing himself, from rock and blues to funk.

Eric Burdon was the lead singer for the Animals. This song was the first hit single for the group called War but the last hit for Eric Burdon! The studio version of this song is slightly different from this live version.😊

"Spill The Wine". The song’s title emerged during a recording session at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco. A bottle of wine was passed around and was spilled into a console. The band was moved to another studio, where “Spill the Wine” gelled. Burdon had already been working on a tune about waking up in a grassy field, but the wine accident seemed to spark the missing piece of the puzzle. “The song came from a tipped-over bottle in a recording studio and developed out of a jam session. But the spilling of the wine became quite a ceremony with the band. Promoters would leave bottles of red California wine backstage. . . “What we never seemed to have was a corkscrew, but I discovered that these bottles were easy to get into if you just plunged your middle finger into the cork. The trick was placing your mouth over the bottle to catch the cheap plonk as it erupted. It soon became a backstage event, this ‘spilling of the wine.’” “That song was basically about a Californian mountain called Mount Tamalpais, and back in the hippie days we all used to go up there and hang out. But the DJs wouldn’t play the song because they wrongly assumed the lyrics were all about sex and drugs.".... Although the song is not necessarily about Wine per say. it has a reference to shooting up Heroin..... Spill the wine, take that pearl It's on girl, all you gotta do is spill that wine Spill that wine, let me feel, let me feel hot, yeah! Yeah!.... OR.... Spill the wine and take that pearl, Is breaking her hymen and taking her virginity.... You decide what you believe.

We knew this was coming soon. Eric blew us all away with this UNIQUE tune. Must spark up the pipe for this one..... again

"Spill The Wine" The song was inspired by an accident in which keyboardist Lonnie Jordan spilled wine on a mixing board. How much Wine & Weed was used before they did this tune????... a lot

Repeat of my earlier take, we seem to resonate: "Eric went through phases, after the Animals, he didn't have that much to say, he becomes, somewhat, a parody of himself, and I am a fan. Seems like he got a hold of some good acid in his Haight Ashbury days that never quite got of his system." On the WINE idea -- just an aside, (and maybe its relevant): Jimi went to sit in with Eric (and War I believe) at Ronnie Scott's in London, mostly a jazz joint, the night Jimi died (murdered) by having wine forced down his throat until he drowned. Eric was a bit cavalier about the whole affair, at least that's how he comes across in interviews. Remember, it was Eric's longtime bandmate, Chas Chandler, that brings Jimi to England after "discovering" him at Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village. Jimi schtupps Chas' girlfriend, there's a whol' lotta mess goin on there, especially spinning around Jimi's manager, former Brit Intelligence Agent, who's got him on a contract, and a million + insurance policy AND has been threatened by the mob for non payment of debts AND Jimi's on his way out of that horrible arrangement. If 2+2 still equals 4.....???? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jeffery_(manager)

@@zdogg8 Wow, longtime fan of Jimi's here, but never heard of the "murdered" theory. I saw Jimi live in '68 and have read several books on his life. I read that he took a large dose of a European sleeping medicine (more than prescribed) but while sleeping, choked on his vomit and sadly passed. They were at his girlfriend's flat in London. What a terrible loss was that when Jimi died.
@zdogg8

@@marymargaretmoore9034 Jimi was interviewed the day before, was extremely sober, positive and cogent, looking forward to his next move, recording with Miles Davis. We don't hear, anywhere else of Jimi and barbiturates. Look into the case. He had enough wine in his lungs to choke a horse. He was held down and drowned, AFAIAC. There was plenty of motive here as well.

I remember back in my drinking days, how I really liked Liebfraumilch! The best wine. Not being a real connoisseur. To me, anyway.
@AstiJay
@AstiJay Жыл бұрын
I did too! Compared to the Boones Farm & Mad Dog I usually drank, a cheap bottle of Liebfraumilch turned the evening elegant. I eventually developed my pallet to enjoy the nuances of fine reds so now it’s too sweet for me. But it does bring fond memories. BTW, the best wine is the one you like best, not the one declared the best by a magazine’s rating.

He references a white wine in this version. Liebfraumilch translates to basically Beloved Mother's Milk, referencing the Virgin Mary. I always thought it was sex and the clitoris. Who knows.
