They Were Loyal Republicans - Until Trump and Abortion Bans

Abortion is emerging as a major issue in this election: inspiring more women to show up to the polls and vote for Kamala Harris, while at the same time driving a wedge between some conservative women and Donald Trump. That dynamic is especially visible in Arizona, where abortion bans are being challenged on the ballot in November, and where nearly a third of all Republicans say they'll support a constitutional amendment establishing abortion as a fundamental right. Alexandra Eaton and Stephanie Figgins traveled to the suburbs of Phoenix to speak to some of the Republican women who are splitting from the G.O.P.

I too, an a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and am voting for Harris/Walz! I had a baby died at 4 and a half months in utero in 1980, my second of 5 pregnancies and the Lutheran hospital I had my first baby at, refused to do the abortion to remove my dead, very much wanted baby. I nearly died. My OB gave me an injection and by myself, delivered my tiny, baby in a dirty bathroom. No woman should ever have to do that. My sweet daughter, has a blood disorder and has lost two much wanted babies in the second trimester and because of the laws in Texas, she could be arrested for having a second trimester misscarraige and could die if a D&C, an abortion is not preformed asap, because her blood doesn't clot. We must vote Blue and like the other LDS woman said, I believe in the sanctity of life, but it's not for me to choose for another and our government needs to stay out of our lives!

So sorry you had to go through that, I know that nothing I can say will reduce your pain but perhaps by voting blue we can help other women so they do not go through it due not being provided the health care available. The wife does not have full rights over her own body; her husband shares them. And the husband does not have full rights over his own body; his wife shares them. NO WHERE IN MY BIBLE DOES IT SAY THE GOVERNMENT HAS RIGHTS OVER MY BODY.

My Mum is the exact same way. LDS, former Republican, even voted Trump in 2016, and lost two babies in the process of building her family. Now, we live in Texas and see the realities of limiting healthcare for women. Vote blue because it may just be our lives that depend on it.

Leadership is not and should never be, about gender. We need the most qualified leader, male or female, intelligent and with good character. Harris has a long career as a lawyer, attorney general and senator and she has good, ethical character. Trump is a failed real estate magnate who has declared bankruptcy 7 - 11 times and left destroyed lives in his wake and never, after bragging he was a billionaire, went back to help those who lost their life business because he never had to pay them. You know all the other things, so why repeat them here. I don't care about gender, I want a qualified person.

Ladies and gentlemen, the fundamental question is: Who is the master of life and death? There is a novella by Carl Zuckmayer from 1938 and a film based on this novella from 1955. This novella and the film are titled "The Master of Life and Death." As I write this, it is raining outside. We notice an increase in rain and storms. I have had an epiphany, wherein I have been told that all this heavy rain cannot halt the fire that will come from the heavens. We are once again in the days of Noah, but this time the deluge will not be with water, but with fire. Our society has become unbelievably depraved and godless. This is evident in how people dare to consider themselves the masters of life and death. This is one of the worst blasphemies against God, if not the very worst. That is why the issue of abortion is not merely the murder of an innocent child in the womb, but the blasphemy that underlies it. This is the most grievous sin. The wages of sin is death - the second death. Satan whispers to people that they have a right to their bodies, yet he omits that the body is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. Just as cursing (which does not encompass the demand for justice for evil deeds unless one repents) and blessing (wishing good upon someone) should not come from the same mouth, the body cannot harbor both good and evil simultaneously. The entire debate surrounding abortion and its legalization only serves to illustrate one thing: society lacks compassion. When it is claimed that one must feel pity for women who wish to have abortions, that is true, but this compassion, as well as freedom, comes with responsibility. This responsibility is to God, who is the true and only ruler over life and death. Only one person who walked this earth had the right to decide about His life-to end it or not-and that was Jesus, the Son of the living God. Yet Jesus emphasized that life is sacred and that every soul has infinite value. He reached out to the marginalized and weak, to sinners and those who suffer, and proclaimed the message of love, forgiveness, and hope. Jesus spoke of the deeper meaning of life-that it is not solely about physical existence but about the spiritual and soulful connection to God. In today's world, where life is often seen as negotiable, it is more important than ever to recognize and embody this message. When people presume to decide over life and death, they forget that we are all part of a greater plan known only to our Creator. The challenge is to protect life and promote its appreciation, even in the most difficult situations. It is the duty of each generation to listen to the countless voices of the innocent and defend their right to exist. As we approach the issue of abortion, we should not only focus on the legal and political aspects but also on the moral and spiritual dimensions. As a society, we need to foster a culture of life in which help and support for expectant mothers and their children are paramount. Instead of supporting hasty decisions, we should create opportunities that acknowledge the value of every life and address the challenges many women face with true compassion. It is up to us to be the voice of hope and to spread the message of love. We must not fall into a ghettoization of human values, where life is seen as a bargaining chip. Instead, we should have the courage to stand up for the principles that have been conveyed to us by God. Through our actions, we can bring a ray of light into the darkness and convey the certainty that every life story is unique and valuable. Let us work to create a world where every individual, from the moment of conception, is regarded as valuable. Only in this way can we honor the claim of the true Master of life and death. It is this fidelity to principles that will help us grow and thrive as a community-during these times of trials and challenges. Amen.

You can stop abortion by promoting family planning or providing alternative pregnancy controls. Banning it completely will only lead to more women being denied medical treatment when they do need it. Roe v Wade ensured equal treatment across states thereby minimizing government overreach. Personally I would argue that abortion up until 24 weeks should only be legal in case of medical emergencies, whereas before 8-10 weeks there should be no condition at all.
@Matt-fl8uy
@Matt-fl8uy Күн бұрын
You could very well get to 6+ weeks without knowing you are pregnant. You can't get in all the necessary medical tests by 10 weeks. That would be too early. I do agree we need comprehensive health education in high schools. Educating our kids and making contraceptives easily available is how we really reduce abortions.
@elijahobviously1288
@elijahobviously1288 Күн бұрын
1. Condoms are already 25 cents and abortions still happen. 2. Banning it reduces abortions. See Journal of the American Medical Association's surveillance on the Texas abortion ban 3. Banning abortion does not lead to denying medical treatment because abortion is not medical treatment. See every obstetrics textbook and medical journal on earth, ask any OB/GYN or, idk, read CDC surveillance on maternal mortality correlated with abortion laws? More on that if you want. 4. Roe v Wade made a claim about the Constitution which is observably wrong. Whether or not you LIKE the OUTCOME of the false claims it made is irrelevant. It gets overturned because it's a false claim about what the Constitution says, not because some guy on the internet likes it.

The comman citizen will pay for those tax cuts to the rich with a loss of desperately needed state and federal programs, including Social Security and Medicare. They are lying about the states thing.
