Dis nigga is my fav artist of all time and ngl I love still being able to see his name pop up in the media and it's 2023 so like that shit genuinely makes me happy, especially when it comes to new music/demos. However, I do have to say like as happy as I am with them finalizing some of his unfinished projects and clearing old songs to finally be put on streaming platforms, UVXCX couldn't be more right in saying 'yeah, rent must be due.' X passed in 2018 and yet 5 years later they still somehow trickling money out of him MOSTLIKLY under the disguise of 'Fans will eat this shit up = We make money. Everyone is happy.' Like I remember when they told us that BVF was the LAST chapter of music we would be getting, yet they still releasing his older stuff which isn't not allowed but its like come on... It just feels like they really really really tryna drag his name out for as long as they can. I think realistically it makes sense and is inevitable to gatekeep an artists work that was made for the public however, at the same time I think there's certain way to go about these things. Your take definetlty makes sense like I'm not gonna ignore that or say you wrong bc you ain't its just, I feel and this is pure feeling, that in situations like this the artist work, albums, projects, everything, even money and estate need to be handled with delicacy, especially since they headed down the route of releasing music to the public. I just this that they should truly commit to the community and do justice for Jah by being transparent getting whatever they have out, out. I’m actually on the opposite side of the isle with this one. In fact I believe this is what they SHOULD have did when he passed. Instead of releasing half finished songs and turning literal voice memos into full fledged songs with features that don’t make sense, they should’ve just rereleased the SoundCloud songs and that be it. And before yall hit me with the “they can just listen to it on SoundCloud” you really underestimate how lazy your average music listener is. I mean if it isn’t on TikTok or a Spotify playlist it doesn’t exist to them. I’m happy they’re releasing his old work to all DSP and clearing samples. Imo they’re just furthering his legacy and many casual fans will get to experience these songs for the first time. I don’t really have a problem with this stuff at all. According to Cleo some of these samples have taken years to clear and a lot of them were meant to release when the doc came out. The only time I ever felt a project was off was BVF with the stupid features. Maybe Look At Me: The Album was worse tbh. I’m fine with unreleased and former songs though.
