I used to be one of those people who made excuses and tried to find the point where someone “shifts” (i.e “but his mom died!”), but that shit’s for fictional characters. Basically if your favorite artist is a terrible person then they have always had that problem that made them terrible.

I don’t defend Cardi or any of the deplorable acts she has committed, but the double standard with her case isn’t “imagine if a man said this about women.” it’s the fact so many male rappers have committed more violent ways of robberies but they don’t get blasted for it every single time. We laughed when we heard XXXtentacion talk about how he got so used to doing home invasions he started making sandwiches during them in the No Jumper interview. We loved hearing YG and Drakeo the Ruler rap about racially targeting civilian Asian ppl houses and robbing them. Hell since we on the topic of femme fatale, we also love hearing rappers talk about getting a homegirl to set up somebody to get robbed. Again I’m not defending Cardi or saying everybody who’s calling her out on this is a hypocrite who pick and choose. It’s just that I’ve seen a majority of rap fans glorify and glamorize rappers bragging about violent robberies, but Cardi brags about drugging men to rob them. All of a sudden they got a moral compass and want her in jail.

Rap was built up off struggle, so struggle stories always gonna be apart of the DNA. Plus at the end of the day, some rappers that talk about this stuff talk about it because they actually did it, they just saying stuff they’ve done and rap built off coolness so if the shit they did was cool then they’re gonna mention it (yes I know a lot of cap rap exists but there is still a large percentage of rappers who actually were about what they talked about) so moral alignment becomes kinda fucked for the listener. However, most listeners don’t then do the stuff they hear in the raps so it can’t be all bad. Plus the reason why Cardi is probably called out is because rap is built on male emotions and dominance and allat, so Cardi drugging and robbing men is probably some sort of subconscious “what the fuck” for dudes because it flips social conventions. Rap is a toxic genre of music lol, but simultaneously it’s the most real and beautiful imo, despite containing some of the worst people.

If im bein completely honest,as a person who makes music ive met plenty of genuine artists in the scene who arent assholes to people despite there being a huge majority who choose to not pay their engineers and producers or scam other artists on features or cover art commissions.Rappers arent terrible people,theres just a huge influx of rappers/artists that have been promoted into the mainstream that arent good on a personal level and the trend for upcoming artists has been to manipulate to get to the top like the people they look up to.Also it’s important to note,most of these popular artists are not necessarily the pinnacle of intelligence or creativity theyre just inflated which,as you can see,creates a ridiculous ego for someone who is actually a degenerate.
