PVE combat is only a mindless big shield game if you decide to make it so. If instead you rely on smart/tight flying patterns in a maneuverable ship to avoid damage then PVE combat is a lot of fun. More so than regular PVP actually. Fighting multiple ships at the same time while having to learn how to fly to avoid incoming damage, remain aware of where each target is, and prioritize your actions, is very rewarding.

Honestly, I loved flying my Federal Assault Ship just for this purpose. While it has less weapons as the Chieftain, they're larger and pack a bigger punch while still having pretty much similar (if not the same) performance as a Chieftain ship. And you can still jump between systems without fearing you're out of fuel like in a Fer-de-Lance, making it pretty versatile for Bounty Hunting.

This post is why I play War Thunder. Playing War Thunder makes me a better Elite player, and visa versa... they are quite a bit different, but there are certain constants they share. War Thunder is essentially a pure PvP game. An hour of play is 2-4 matched of Air RB, and a player in the top 20% is probably averaging 1.5-2 kills per match. I can hear you saying "well an ED battle is a lot different from a WT one." Constants like I said. ED has longer duels (obviously depending on a bunch of factors), and therefore requires a lot of persistence.. persistence that is extremely valuable in a long, turning dogfight. WT is a looking around simulator, that has air to air combat. Your head is on a swivel, or you're fucking dead... that level of spacial awareness is critical in battle, and confers serious advantages when playing elite. Aim. You've got to be able to shoot in both, but ED pales in comparison to the extreme aim required for high level dogfighting. Fixed weapons are very comfortable to a War Thunder player. Heart rate. If fighting a supersonic dogfight, 3 feet off the ground, isn't getting your heart rate up, nothing will. You are cool as a cucumber in all ventures, because they pale in comparison. Landing is one that goes to Elite. I can belly land a four engine bomber far easier than I can land that huge luxury transport (named after some whale or something). I can't recommend playing both games enough, they really compliment eachother well.

my favorite way to approach pve is to use nothing but the fighter hangar and try to do as much damage as humanly possible before exploding.

No more grinding, apart from easy trading credits in Elite, so I can turn my explorer conda into a hull tank, no shields, cannons only PVE fun machine BROADSIDE, BLOOD AND IRON TALLY HO LADS

tip: your weapons cap is actually the weapons cooling system cap if your ship have a low temperature you will consume less power and that is the reason why heat sink works as some kind of "cap booster" for weapons and thermal vent to.

As a personal preference, I go with Long Range Beam Lasers with Thermal Venting and Multicannons on Long Range build. While you do not do as much damage up close, you extend the range of your weapons way beyond anyone else and .... most importantly..... YOU LOSE THE DAMAGE FALLOFF. At maximum rank, damage falloff becomes 0% so you can hit with 100% damage (if you can aim) at 3km away the same as you do at 500m away.

@@joak-web can't remember, I think I go with Oversized or something similar for increased DPS. I just keep 1 with Corrosion ammo to negate the armor. For lasers though, Thermal Vent (if you aim properly) is a blessing. I can reach 0% thermal overhearing if I keep the lasers on target!!!

The 4-AX weapon limit has been removed now, by the "experimental weapon stabiliser". So if you want to spend some days shooting Guardian Sentries you can get enough space lego to unlock SIX mod shards on a single ship and instakill Cyclops Thargoids for fun and profit. Just take plenty of heat sinks because you need those for every shot! 😅

When I started elite I used a sidewinder and shot my laser at pirates in mining zones when friendly ships were around as long as you got a hit in on a enemy you received some credits.

21:50 any missle can be buried in the corner in front of torpedoes, the maximum blast damage available. Still not so effective against heavy engineered hulls, but wipes out external equipment and also have experimental effects.

22:36 Biweaves have the problem of excessive distributor consumption to offset its regeneration rate. It's basically just an overclock on your shield. 26:04 Cytos actually just have an armor penetration of like 5 or so. Which compared to ship hardness makes it do only 5-25% damage. The solution? Corrosive+cyto to lower enemy hardness. Still worthless though. Also can't underemphasize use of lateral thrust; it's required to do anything if you're still using the default keybinds. So go bind them.

28:20 -- RE: Point Defense(s) are Pointless; Oh I dunno about that. Full disclosure: I played ED for quite a long time but completely stopped last year due to the big 4.0 update. But about Point Defense turrets: for a long time, I always put at least 1 PD turret on the bottom side of my ship, especially if it was a Mining or Cargo Delivery build. If there was a chance that an NPC or player could use a Hatch-Breaker limpet, I considered it worth having on the build. Later on, though, I found out that there are other use-cases for that optional module, provided there was more than 1 of them. That is to say, they work best when stacked against incoming missile threats. For the largest ships with the most optional module slots, its worth having 2-4 of them, perhaps all on the top or bottom side of the ship, perhaps split between top and bottom. They once allowed me to avoid a ganker in the following circumstance. I was flying a PVE combat-trading Anaconda in Open, and was pulled out of supercruise by an attacking combat-build Anaconda. He tried to use multiple missile racks on me, but my Conda was faster than his (gonna guess I had the higher level Dirty/Drags). None of his missiles got within 700 meters of my ship when he tried firing on me from longer range. His only mistake was relying so heavily on missiles instead of lasers and/or PAs. There is a third use case which bears mentioning, although it is likely to be the rarest use of all. When visiting Guardian sites to get Blueprints, the Sentinel missiles are very easily defeated by PD turrets. I've raided Guardian sites using ships as large as a Conda and as small as the Keelback, but always with PD turrets on the *TOPSIDE* of the ship. Alternatively, if playing with a Wingman, there is the option to mount the PD turrets on the *Bottomside* and let the Wingman land instead, while keeping the turrets in the air and pointing downward at the missiles the Sentinels launch.

Wow, I started playing the game yesterday and thought "let's learn how to fight properly" and then I watched this xD didn't understand like 80% of things you were saying but I had tons of fun and I know that this game is going to give me a lot of nicely spent time. What can I say, I guess I just need to play and try to understand the game more... I will definitely watch your videos in order to understand the game. Odyssey is, as Yamiks might say, "absolute dawwwgshit". I bought Odyssey (Deluxe version), and it destroyed Elite for me - and considering i've spent a large percentage of my life playing the series since its original release on the BBC Micro, that's got to say something is seriously wrong with it. Even basics of the game such as the menus were awkward and clumsy to use, as though whoever designed them had never played the game, read the manual, or watched any videos on gameplay. I only had about 1,700 hours in Elite Dangerous (I bought it about 4 years ago), but as I say, Odyssey killed it for me. I've quite possibly only done 30 hours in total on it since Odyssey's release (beacause it was unplayable with bugs, crashes etc), stopped playing after Update 4 two years ago, and loaded it for nostalgia's sake about a week ago. I quit again almost immediately because I can't be bothered relearning all the menus and the changed galaxy map again. A more interesting title might be Spacebourne 2, which seems to offer pretty much everything Odyssey was supposed to deliver, what appears to be better FPS combat, more interesting scenarios like spacewalks to another ship to loot it, and it was developed by a team of one. Yes, one - and the graphics look better ! It still has bugs, but holy crap, this guy looks God level compared to what FDev churned out.

I can't tell if you're joking, Bbut Yamiks *hates* Odyssey. I've never bothered with it myself, as it looks awful. Just stick with Horizons, you have many happy hours ahead of you with that. BTW learning how the various systems work is very much part of the fun with Elite. As each aspect clicks into place, you get a sense of satisfaction and usually think of another aspect to explore. I highly recommend you try each type of play for a few hours at least: exploration, trading, mining, combat etc.

A friend got me into this game, and they had a bone stock Anaconda (not that they were using, but it was in their garage and they were working on finances to upgrade), and I kind of got obsessed with it while they played a few different games. Anyway, they got the Conda fully outfitted and upgraded and shit, and I'm rocking a kitted out and engineered Fer De Lance. I was kinda making fun of him for being so big and slow, and he was like, "I'm in an Anaconda, dude. You can't stop this ship." 1v1 engaged. Fer De Lance lived in his asshole and fed the full arsenal up it. Haven't played with him since.

Actually you couldn't have stopped it with FDL if he would've started "jumping game" as even heavily engineered FDL can't jump nowhere near what even stock Conda can jump.

The longer on play's ED, the tendency to "GIT GUD" to various degree's, is different from player to player. A noob in the same exact ship, regardless of loadout, will be destroyed in a few heartbeat's or less when up against an experienced human. Thus they go up against the supposedly same and even sometime's lessor NPC's. And still get destroyed until they manage to git gud enough. Because the majority of player's vs noob's are so much larger. Frontier is constantly being badgered by the larger group when they have gotten gud, to make it harder. Which then mean's the noob, will by default, beforced to not only gitten gud. But mandated to become even better. Recently Frontier has caused NPC to be even though they could leave for a minute, and come back fullly stocked, fully repaired. And the player status doesn't change, meaning ammo spent is gone, damage done need's repairing etc. etc. etc. Requires one to the point of mandating, to get engineered. Which as we "ALL" know and accept suck's to the N-th degree. Regrardless of how gud one can get, based entirely on their ability. If and when the NPC are deliberately engineered, one is mandated to get engineered or go on to doing something else within their abilites. Hense the reason behind "EXPLORER'S" numbering so much higher than any other aspect of the game. How does investing thousand's of hour's in gathering material's, and then having to trade them for other's at the various different mat trader's and god for bid you screw up and trade for something in which you'll need for something else and have to go back later and gather more mat's and do more trading. Allow one to have time in attempting to git gud. Then there's the issue of though it may take a bit of time. Nerfing any where that can or could be considered an exploit. Needing to replentish my raw's and in Odyssey. Flew the 1,700ly year's to the shard site's. Which in Horizon there were basicall six planet, all of which consisted of providing six different mat's. Generally there were 3 to 4 major site's on each of the six planet's one could then max out with. Odyssey has the same shard planet's at the same location's at the same distances. But now one has to go to not one or two, but up to if found a dozen location's on the same planet. Though one can still max out, the additional grinding of having to go to multiple sites, rather than only one. Was and is totally assinine. And having to do it two to three times to max out all of ones raw's. Has become simply unfathomable.

I still like jumping in my ass explorer and running around to do some geology and biology searching. I over-engineered everything to the point to where I cannot add another item or else I'm over mass. It's funny when someone interdicts me thinking they can take me out or that I'm going to run. I usually end up destroying them 😅 I couldn't find anywhere to buy a big ship in my area so I went ahead and bought a python too through aux as well as a chieftain. It's crazy the modules they come with but if anybody buys one you cannot store the modules. Once you get rid of that module for another one that module is gone.

"NPCs are kind of bad" Flashback to me getting absolutely destroyed by competent/deadly AI's just strafing and outgunning me. FDL competent/deadly bots are particularly the bane of my existence if I'm in anything lower than a Python or a Krait 2. I feel like that argument only works if you're in engineered ships or larger ships. For most newbies to bounty hunting (aka people still flying un-engied vipers, eagles and vultures mostly), all these bots are menaces. For newbies, do NOT fight anything above threat 2-3 and always take green threat missions, maybe yellow if you're feeling confident in the ship you're driving can punch a bit above it's class. AI also have engineered ships and are better fliers than you, I learned that the hard way. I don't actually think humans can get as good as bots are, because bots seem incredibly precise at turning and strafing to the point of 0 wasted movement or rotation, not to mention it seems all their ships are turreted so they have extra angles to fire at you from. Also fighting 1vs Many is pretty undoable in smaller, unengied ships, you get shredded like swiss cheese by any size of vessel if your shields go down, sure you can try the jebait route and just fly in, shoot as much as you can, get your shields popped, and run away till they regen. Tried AX once.. .didn't like it... i sucked at it. PVE in high risk CZ's in Krait MK2 is fun. Phantom is a good exploration ship. Bring a corvette to high risk combat zones though and an NPC will wipe the floor with your overgrown ass.

I think you should read the actual comments about ganking you showed on screen. They are pretty much on point, and it's quite easy to understand why "just play in solo" is just lame victim blaming and avoiding the topic. Ganking is about behaviour, nothing else. Not about PvP beeing, well, PvP - duh. Not about skill, not about carebears, not about not having a meta ship or not knowing how to evade (with 40% hull after you've been pulled three times in a row by a team of low-lives who just sit on a CG system and run when they see the dreaded anti-gankers arriving on scene.) There is a reason why gankers are compared to real-life criminals, while e.g. in-game pirates (which are literally criminals) are not and are well respected. There's also research on that. You don't want to read it, it's depressing. That beeing said, encountering gankers is a rare thing in general. Probably because the gankers tend to drown in their own boredom at the age of 40.

One other tip for newer players to AX combat. Find some Discord servers that encourage newer players to join in team Combat zones in either open or private group so that you can hook into the voice chat. Even if you don't have a microphone you can listen for the coordinated calls. And if you're really green go with the shard cannons in team fights and practice with the gauss on your own or with a mate who can help you out if things start going wrong. AXI will give you the info you need to do solo interceptors, but it is very time consuming, worth it, but still time consuming as it is practice, practice, practice. But in teams (again team who like helping out the newbies) you can get started straight away, learn a bit and then compliment that with the AXI teachings. Shameless plug here. If you're in the Australia/New Zealand time zone or close then EDA kunti are the guys to join. You'll get help with not just thargoid battles, but the guys will help with anything Elite Dangerous as most good discord servers will. And every Friday and Saturday nights there are events to join.

Go from new player area aka dromi unlock an engineer buy a conda go to Colonia and then back to new player area. As far as I know I'm the only former player to do that. I've been mining and I've done the boring log out to main menu and desktop for g5 mats. That right there and the nerfs to mining are why I quit playing this empty game that lacks substance or a point. Buy yourself another game and move on. Trust me there's better games out there. Hell x4 is better all around and you don't need to log out to main menu or desktop to engineer your ship just collect what's dropped from combat. No need to log out no need to grind and no nerfs so far. That said I put 1k hours into it but quit that when they announced boron dlc which to me was just cut and paste content to sell back as dlc.

To be fair comparing a wallpaper engine with a cockpit simulation known as Elite: Dangerous to the venerable X series is just mean :D The X series already had a much better and real economic system along with lore and polished meaningful gameplay in 1999 with X:BtF. Quite frankly, I don't think 4X fans really take ED seriously, it's more like a fighter jet game like war thunder than a serious simulator. Still the best for immersive VR flying ig.

What do you do while your fleet carrier is waiting 15 real world minutes for the next jump? Go 2k ly that's a whole hour of your life gone with absolutely nothing to do. I can play the game in any ship without some engineering grind that takes hundreds of hours of your life just so you have a little more energy and a slightly better jump range. Guess what I can do in x4? I can set up mining or trade stations, I can conquer sectors and clear out any enemies. What does elite give you? Oh yeah here's an empty system with the same exact planet you've seen a thousand times. What reward do you get for new discoveries? Absolutely nothing. Waste two weeks of your life scanning every water or earth like world and you'll make a few mil. In x4 I can make billions via mining, refining and trading and the missions actually matter. Here go find pirate Juan solo and get 100k credits...... 😂

The problem with ship combat in ED, it's only half way descent when it's a Solo players in ships. If you try to multicrew during space combat, then that's a whole different broken can of worms. No wings, broken multi crew, worthless MC combat. Combat in ED is average at best. Shooting Flowers on rails is a snooze fest & so is shooting Capital ships that only run away & can't be destroyed. Oh yeah I forgot, you can't even do space combat w/the FC's. ED space combat is almost as bad as the FPS called Odyssey. And before Odyssey & the bad updates from hell, PvP combat in ED was actually good back in 2015-2017. And before Mobious Group cried like a hospital room full of newborns about PvP combat. ED should've stayed OPEN Only.

I have 4 of every ship & 8 Billion credits. & I haven't played since Oct. 2017. Do I still keep up on ED, sure do. But trying out Meta ships is the same as before when we did it for PvP. Now it's just NPC Thargoids. That is nothing compared to fighting the likes of Harry Potter & his Org. I am a former Pixel Bandit & Privateers Alliance Org. And Co Founder of the Player group, Sap Core Legion based out of 58 Epsilon Hercules since 2016. We were one of the 100 first picked player groups to get put into ED. Thargoids are boring compared to Star Citizen. There is nothing like fighting 2 Idris's or an Idris & a Javelin Capital ship while your other party members are boarding ships & looting them in the middle of a huge fleet battle. You'll NEVER experience that fighting Thargoids. You'll NEVER experience that in ED either, no matter how long you play this game.
