Mark's voice would be fantastic on radio. So many on the radio or podcasts have voices that cannot keep my attention. Hello Mark, It is always exciting to receive a video from you. This is an intriguing and interesting case and it seems to me that it was so well planned by Noel, especially his use of a gun rather than a knife, which would have made it necessary for him to take time to clean himself before going out. Although in his hurry he didn’t do enough to make it look more like a robbery by not taking a lot of things that a thief would have taken. He was clever in the way he drew attention to the fact that he couldn’t get in to the house and getting witnesses to this. Your voice is so calm and such a joy to listen to. Thank you for this latest video. I hope that you are keeping well. Until next time. 🙂💚✌️

I can't remember how I first arrived at They Got Away With Murder, but I'm so glad I did. Mark's selections of historic cases shows how widely-read he is. His presentation is faultless: no silly music, the videos have clever (but not extravagent) use of illustration/caption, and his articulacy and accurate diction quietly reigns supreme. There's not a word superfluous. This is my second watch of this one before comment, so compelling is Mark's sonorous voice - like the creak of an antique bureau varnished with shellac, or the resonant purr of a 1930s Bakelite wireless. Great work Mark - don't do anything else, just keep doing what you are!
@TheyGotAwayWithMurder Жыл бұрын
You made me laugh, Chris - and shellac in French polish? You are a connoisseur of fine thing! My father used to restore furniture after he retired, and used to melt down old 78 RPMs to obtain shellac! Thank you for your kind words!
@chrissandi9613 Жыл бұрын
I can add to that, also, Mark!; I remember my grandmother explaining how in the 1920s she used to fashion 78 r.p.m. records into crenellated flowerpots by softening them in the stove for a while, then shaping frilly edges. Keep up your splendid work! You're good!! @@TheyGotAwayWithMurder
@TheyGotAwayWithMurder Жыл бұрын
@@chrissandi9613 I recall doing this with my mother when I was a child! She would ask my father for one of his 78s and then with some effort he would find one - she would put them in the oven and, as you say, the edges would be "frilly" to allow for the record to fold inwards! I must ask my mother where she had seen this done!

What a delight to find this new video from you! Thank you! Your research and writing of these events takes a great deal of time and effort, and so many of us very much enjoy and appreciate that you continue to use your gifts - which include some wonderful artwork!-on your KZbin channel! Because it simply could not be avoided if you follow the news in the USA, one feature of this story struck me immediately as having one thing in common with the current case of Alex Murdaugh of South Carolina, who was just convicted of murdering his wife and youngest son. The Murdaugh murders took place at the dog kennels of the large, isolated country hunting property where the Murdaugh family home was located.. The murdered spouse, “Maggie” Murdaugh, kept her beloved personal dogs there. Unbelievably, a short video was taken by the soon to be deceased son Paul Murdaugh, literally just a few minutes from when forensic evidence determined the victims had died. The defense claimed that although Alex Murdaugh admitted he had been at the dog kennels (because he had been caught out by the time stamped cell phone video, and admitted to being there in proximity of the murders only AFTER he was caught out!)- I wondered why Maggie’s dogs were not heard barking?? This property was way off the beaten path, so persons unknown had to be there when the murders took place. They couldn’t just nip up from a nearby street and commit murder! They had to have been there! I know dogs. Anyone who knows dogs knows that if any strangers were near those kennels, especially if the dogs sensed trouble!-they would be barking their heads off! Just as in this Victorian era case, the dogs didn’t bark. They didn’t bark because they were comfortable with the murderer, the spouse of their mistress. Unlike people evidence, which is often flawed, you can always count on canine evidence, and Maggie’s dogs had told people from the start that no strangers were on that property! I just got you some coffee! Enjoy!
@TheyGotAwayWithMurder Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Polly - I am very grateful to you! I wasn't aware of the details of the Murdaugh case - although it appears to have captured international headlines. Thank you for filling me in on this - yes dogs would react to an attack (or even the presence) of a malign stranger... The only circumstance which would cause them considerable confusion, I imagine, is that in which one of their owners killed another...

I do love these late Victorian cases. This channel, this host is the most elegant of them all; period-suitable music, a perfect storybook narration, an excellent and eloquent script. One would never see a documentary as literate and rational as this produced in the drug-addled, pleb-worshipping US. If the local papers of 1893 had published an essay on the case against Noel comparable to the final 15 minutes of this video, the murderer would surely have hung. Very well done.

Thank you so much Mark! I love your storytelling and analysis. It’s like you open up the past so we feel we can inhabit their world fleetingly. Very special. Take care! 🌈😀

I’m so happy to have you back! You paint a brilliant and gory picture of this murder. Noel was as naive about murdering his wife as he was at philandering about the town. I’m astonished at how he got away with killing poor Sarah. Nip by name and nip by nature was the biggest giveaway to me.

Thank you very much, Annette - it was a source of regret to me that I was unable to discover what became of the dog... He really was the only one who knew everything!

How truly sad - Sarah who genuinely loved him , betrayed in such a vile manner especially after she and her family had been of such enormous help to him. You have to wonder why he kept the purse , God only knows . Thank you for another superbly elegant presentation.

I remember your narrative about Wallace, you told us about a few months ago & it is eerily similar to this murder. I can imagine others will & have tried to emulate these murders & not got away with it. It wouldn't surprise me if Noel had read or heard about something like this himself, the fiend.

I don't understand Judge Grantham's position that the case was so weak it 'should never have been bound over for trial' 😕 since the evidence was more than enough to convict him! Thanks for sharing and narrating this most unfortunate case. Cheers Mark!

But it wasn’t. All the evidence presented was circumstantial, which is not enough for a conviction.
