He was a soldier, competed in CISM (military Olympic style) matches during his prime, and set some world records. The difference between CISM and ISSF (Olympics) matches is that CISM matches are fired with centerfire guns, wheras Olympics have slowly watered down to .22 rimfire and. 177 air guns since the 80s

Had a compulsory marksmanship test with a rifle a few decades ago. Pretty much was borderline fail at 50 percent rate. Before the test, someone told me that the test wasn't all that important. I was completely relaxed and scored 90 percent. Same thing happened with another sport. Someone else completely tricked me into relaxing and I did better. This guy is onto something. You want to have the desire to do well, but not be so nervous it gets in your way.

Biathlon was full of border patrol military men , when in East Europe you had to have military service done before you could apply to be border patrol and in winter time they do ski with rifles on their back ... did they all really worked as border guards or was it a cover . Finnish border patrol physical test is a bit hard , you must be able to walk or ski 10km, from middle of nowhere to civilization, if your snowmobile or ATV stop working.
