Exactly. This is what happened to my friend. She was very highly educated and hard working. She made a very good salary in IT for 15 years, but about 10 years ago started getting replaced by cheaper people from overseas. She even had to stop sharing her ideas in interviews, as they'd steal her ideas and how someone cheap from overseas to implement them. Then she had to work for these overseas people and they were inexperienced and had no idea what they were doing. But they were cheap. 🤷‍♀️

As a reminder, folks: - There is no true "shortage" of STEM jobs. We've been saying that my entire adult life. Tech bosses invented this lie to excuse themselves for going after cheaper overseas labor. - Even rich nerds are trying to buy sports teams, these days. It's big business. - Largely-American scientists just made a drone in outer space kiss the sun and Google just created a quantum supercomputer that can do 500 years' worth of processing in a snap. The present and near-future of American STEM are just fine. American pop culture is more vapid, which is annoying to suffer through, but it's absolutely not why we're suffering. Corporate greed, systemic biases, and political corruption like MAGA are. Vivek just sounds salty because he was a bullied nerd in school or something. Being mad that nobody wants to be the next Spelling Bee Champ is silly. But it's some schadenfreude watching MAGA's own Rome burn, anyhow. Even if that Rome is our America.

Perhaps a closer look would be needed at who is actually working in and leading those companies, it's Indians. I don't think folks making 18mn a year leading Google or like myself whose first gig after graduate school was working at big tech at the staff level for a 1.2mn+ annual payout is cheap labor. There is no shortage of tech jobs the way there is no shortage of basketball players in the US. Quality matters. The LA Lakers can recruit from Cooper Junior High too technically. I'd be fine, if there were no visas, but this isn't the 20th century anymore. I'd simply go to another country and compete with American companies. Folks really think those Indian engineers aren't smart enough to create another Microsoft in India the way the Chinese created Tiktok?

@@JohnnyRotten-uf6xw Exactly! And Indian IT industry today isn't what it was 10 years ago. The number of unicorns we have has increased rapidly since the pandemic. I work for McKinsey here in India. Many of the highly skilled people, mostly folks with families do not want to immigrate to US/UK anymore since the salaries at the top end is sufficient enough to support your family and have a good life. The entry level jobs have more or less remained on the same salary point but I think same argument can be made for the minimum wage in US, corporate greed is real afterall. And we do have amazing Indian alternatives to US IT products. Maybe not strictly an OS maker like Microsoft but in other fields, for sure. We have our own cloud platform providers, our own GPS system, payment interface. We have our own big tech. For sure they can come up with an OS.

Being a white math geek, it an american kavk of educationnot putting more focus on real math and science rather than the bs common core methods are teaching now which is crap. I need to teach real math with real skills language to start with algebra one in grade one teaching an algebra basic algebra style. Don’t taste 1+ one box is one plus one is X and then build from there it will make math concepts and math vocabulary critical and doable memorize periodic chart memorize science terms start teaching science at younger grades. These are things that come that India Japan some of the major tech companies tech advanced countries teach at a young age even European schools teach science and chemistry at a young age and hold our students accountable none of this no one‘s left behind if you keep pushing people through grades you’re leaving the entire class behind because every time you push somebody through this not ready and not able to do the next grade. It takes the whole classroom down because the teacher is focusing on the kids that are acting out because they’re lost instead of keeping them behind relearn the materials kids that have LSS and learning disabilities and things like that need the aids and tutors in the schools to help them get caught up and top correctly. These are things are American public schools, lack and we’re not funding anymore. Put those funds back into education and the biggest school strike. The hardest are the low income schools. You got really really bright kids that aren’t getting any extra services for disabilities like dyslexia, reading slow to push him through the grades. I have a friend that teaches the level one school that has fourth graders that haven’t made second grade reading skills and I haven’t got past second grade math skills. That’s absolutely unacceptable. Why are these kids being pushed forward again and again and then I get behavioral problems because they’re so lost and there’s no catching up but when you get two or three years behind, there is no catching up at any point these are kids with somebody took the time to teach and can get them to focus and get the parents involved there’s the other problems. The parents aren’t educated either so the dumb can’t teach the dumbest and it it keeps on building the problem yet we have a president elect that wants to jump up the school system. Teach the Bible and not pandemic you can’t expect America would be great again if you dumb them up to the point that they think but anything the wealthy says is that no teach our children in our nation we will succeed

Indians make up a large percentage of American IT operations as India is 12 hours opposite of the USA, therefore, when Americans are asleep, Indian Operation Centers are running the enterprise networks. I spoke to a devotee of academia yesterday. He was twenty eight years old and had been at University for ten years taking math courses. I stated that ten years was a long time just studying math and I inquired what his career path was when he finally graduated from University. He's response was he had no plan to ever quit school. He figured he would just continue classes for another few years then just start teaching. He claims he is willing to wait until the government pays off his 15 year student loan. Got to admire someone that has a dream and can push themself to reach their greatest potential. Guess it could have been worse. He could have spent the taxpayers money on diversify and inclusion studies.
