"One woman says that she is considering cutting ties with her “bridezilla” friend after she was asked to put nearly $20,000 on a credit card for her wedding festivities.
TikTok user Kooky Mooky (@macydalydog) took to social media to expose a thread of messages that revealed her friend’s costly demand. Mooky, who is meant to be a bridesmaid, asked her friend to ask if there was some way she could cut costs because she is already saddled with her own $20,000 in debt."

My husband and I got married in 1997 also for under $500. We had a church wedding, but since I was a member, it was free. My cousin had just started her floral business, so she asked if she could do my flowers to get her business name out there. Of course, I said yes since she wasn't charging me. My aunt made my gown, and my other aunts catered my reception. My husband's friend did photography as a hobby, and he asked if he could do our pictures as a gift. Another family made my cake (3 tiers) for $100. I bought decorations for my reception, which was held at my grandparents' 100-acre farm. My husband and I are still married and started our lives together debt free!

If she demands this kind of outlay from her friends, imagine what she'll expect of her husband, her parents and her in-laws. Somehow, I suspect that this marriage might go blooey in a few years. Although it's possible that all of them are from absurdly wealthy families, these prices are chump change to them, and Maid Of Honor is just outraged at having to cough up.

I'm still flabbergasted by this bizarre trend of brides thinking they're owed money by the people attending, just because they're getting married. When I got married, WE paid for our maids' and groomsmen's outfits. My parents paid for the food, my dress was a gift from a friend of my mom, who was a seamstress. The photos were done by my photographer brother, a friend of my dad did a video for us. We got some really nice gifts, but none of them had a price tag of over $150. We had a backyard wedding, and TEN YEARS LATER, we were still hearing from friends how it was the best party they ever attended. Why in the world do girls think they have to have some insanely lavish shindig and THOUSANDS of dollars in gifts? (Not to mention a honeymoon paid for by their guests, WTF??) Where did this insanity come from? I can't fathom it. (And this nonsense about OMG IT'S MY DAY. Give me a break. That "my day" comes from back when the reason for it was that it was the LAST day that a girl would be a person in her own right. After that day, she belonged to her husband and her whole life would be lived as an adjunct to HIS identity. So keep your ignorant, entitled bullshit about OMG MY DAYYYYYY.)

Traditionally, the father of the bride is supposed to pay for the wedding, while the groom's family pays for a fancy dinner beforehand. But that is up to the families involved. Involved. It is a destination wedding so she will have to pay for her room but it’ll be no more than a few hundred total. I couldn’t imagine being this entitled or having a friend this entitled. If I would have gotten that response back from her I would have immediately dropped out of the wedding. And if she got upset, so be it. The only exceptions are the bridal showers and bachelorette/bachelor parties. But no one had to buy their own clothes, transportation, accommodations, everything, plus they gave them a special gift on top of it. How did it change to the bridal party paying for their own everything? And are expected to give gifts rather than receiving them for being in the bridal party. Maybe if they provided for everything like they use to, they'd quit acting so entitled and putting burdens on others.

My wife and I decided to not go into so much debt at a young age, and just do a court house marriage. Considering most marriages are done within a few years, we decided to do a bigger wedding when we were better situated financially and at year 10. Well, it’s been 25 years and we are mature enough now to know it’s a waste of money when you are planning kids and have outstanding student loans. We are more than good now and never looked back. Here’s to making it to 30.

I hope with my whole heart you reach your 30th anniversary. It’s amazing. It is also a wonderful feeling of love & accomplishment given the sheer number of failed marriages out there. It’s sad that so many go into marriages thinking they are easy & don’t require work. It’s hard to get through day after day with the same person under the same roof & then add children. It’s a joy too, but it’s hardwork, commitment, & both people must put in the work to show love, respect, & understanding on a daily basis. It sounds like you have all of this covered & then some. 😉 My husband & I eloped. In April, we celebrated our 30th anniversary. Our daughters & friends took us out to eat at a nice restaurant. The girls, who are adults now, got us shirts that said, “I’ve been with her/him for 30 years now. I’ll be here driving her/him crazy for the next 30 years.” They had a friend of a friend make a gorgeous cake with white icing that had Pearl looking sugar decorations & a topper that said Happy Pearl Anniversary. They framed the topper. My sweet husband & daughters had more pears added to a Pearl necklace he bought me years ago. The jeweler replaced the chain it was on in order to better support & amplify the pearls. I am looking forward to us seeing our 40th & 50th anniversaries. I hope those are filled with all the love & then some because all the years leading up to this moment has been so special.

My Mom encouraged me to do what she always wanted to do - elope, then come back and have a nice party with just the family and special friends. Save the money for a down payment on a house.
