It's actually very ignorant of Ana to say he shouldn't serve more than 6 years because he isn't a murderer or a rapist. He stole a lot money and never acknowledged any wrongdoing, only "bad business decisions". Many people he stole were small investors, regular people who trusted Tom Brady and others and lost their life savings. That's not murder or rape but can ruin people's lives. Some of them might commit suicide or make some very bad decisions. And he's the one to blame. If he only got 6 years, that would be a terrible message to other crooks: "as long as you don't commit acts of violence, you can steal everything! The other guy stole 8 billion dollars and only got 6 years. What's the worst that can happen?". I'd love to see how Ana would react if she or someone she loved lost everything they had. Actually, I wouldn't love to see that. No one deserves that.

Ana, theft is not only is about steeling money, but also about depriving someone of their peace of mind, trust in people, sense of security, life savings which they are not able to accumalate again (most of the time), their ability to set up a carefree pension, and so on. So stealing from people at such a magnitude, even if it is not in the form of a physical crime (e.g. robbing at gunpoint), is very serious and should be punished severe enough. I personally don't think that 6.5 years prison is severe enough for this crime. Even if you feel 25 years is long, I expected that you would have gone for maybe 15 to 20 years. I'm a bit disappointed by you being okay with the 6.5 years the defense had asked.

Vehemently disagreeing with Anna here, white collar crimes being spun as a soft subcategory that doesn't demand a higher sentence is why it's so rampant. I personally think they should take the money into consideration, calculate how much time was spent earning that money, and when that time equals the length of the average human lifetime than it should not be considered any less horrific then killing a person. Just because you killed a little bit of a tremendous number of people kind of makes it even worse.
