The next episode will be: RoboCop (1988)!
Some say it's the worst Star Wars movie. Others will take any prequel over the Disney trilogy. But EVERYONE loves them some Boba Fett origin story, so this week we've invited bona fide "star wars guy" and Linus Tech Tips editor Mark Rathgeber on to help us sort through Episode II and all these gosh darn Clones.

To my knowledge, Sifo Dyas WAS the reason for the clone army: Sifo Dyas had dreamt of an impending attack on the republic and told the Jedi Order about it. He told them that they needed to create an army but the Jedi wrote him off as crazy and made no such actions to his request. In secret, Sifo Dyas put in the request with the Kaminoans and then was kicked out of the Jedi order (for reasons). Sifo Dyas confided in Duku and told him about the army. Already disillusioned with the Jedi Order, Duku turned to Sidious and explained to him what Sifo Dyas had told him. Sidious ordered Duku to kill Sifo Dyas and take over the project. While this seems like a cool thread, none of it is explained in the trilogy and I think adds to the failures of the trilogy

I really liked Mark on the podcast! He is a bit soft-spoken though so maybe you guys could turn up his audio a bit for the next time. It felt like he was a little reserved in the beginning but by the end he really started to contribute more to the discussion and that was nice to see. Would definitely like to see more of him. Love you guys and keep up the awesome content!

Looks like the mics very directional, look at how Riley and James are talking directly into them, Marks audio fades out when he moves away from the mic while talking. This is just getting used to the equipment. Otherwise he had some good points, thumbs up from me!

really enjoyed Mark's input..not sure if it was just a shy personality or maybe a speech thingy needing a few more seconds to compose what he wanted to say during this vid, but please bring him back he was really great!!

@@tonyman1337 to me that sounds like the gate/expander settings being set for David and therefore too high for mark. So his initial words do trigger the gate/expander right away/not enough

Too soft spoken and the way he expressed himself was very truncated. His inputs were very interesting however, and I hope to see him again on the show, with hopefully some measurable improvement!

You didn't mention the dumbest thing in this movie...when Obi Wan is in the archives looking for Camino on the computer, he says it should be "south" of some other system. What exactly is "south" in space?
@WPPatriot
@WPPatriot 2 жыл бұрын
Having very little knowledge of deep star wars lore in which the type of galaxy may have been explained, if the galaxy is shaped similarly as ours it's disk shaped. Which isn't to say that there isn't plenty of "depth" still in a galaxy, but it's not unreasonable to pick an orientation and assign north to some direction. That said, I'm not entirely convinced that was what they were going for.

The Duel of the Fates music while Anakin is on the "motorcycle" is very fitting in my opinion. The duel of the Fates was a battle over Anakin's fate... If Qui-gon lived he would have gone on to be in a "father" role for Anakin which he needed. Instead he was raised by more of a "brother" role from Obi-wan out of a promise to Qui-gon not necessarily because he believed he was the chosen one. The music fits the scene for me because it's about to show the first time Anakin dips into the dark side... something that might not have happened had the Duel of the Fates turned out differently.

The problem that has always existed in star wars is that its reactionary. We only ever follow people reacting to what has already been done. There is almost no agency.

44:00 - That IS in fact a very classic trope for any "Martial" character. With the idea being that a martially trained character is almost always on guard against attacks to themselves, but not against attacks to others. 53:00 - This could easily be seen as Dooku (Darth Tyranus) following part of the "rule of two", wherein the apprentice is always attempting to overtake their master, even while serving them. 1:05:00 - No no, come on you guys should know this working for LMG, that's clearly just the "Enter" button.

"Sentience" is an arbitrary spot on an infinite (probably) spectrum of consciousness. It's a totally anthropocentric viewpoint that our level of consciousness - what we arrogantly call "self awareness" - should represent some special tipping point. Consciousness is a continuum - we only think 'sentience' is a milestone because it happens to be the highest level of consciousness we're capable of comprehending. This faulty thinking is all Cartesian hangover - "cogito ergo sum" has a lot to answer for.

Some commenters have pulled stuff off of Wookieepedia, and to me that makes the movie seem even worse, if that's possible -- actually, yes, it is... looking at you, Last Jedi. But anyways, Wookieepedia, and stuff they used to put up on the official Star Wars website, on Hyperspace or wherever, are there just to try and fill in the gaps, cover up plotholes, tie loose ends and shit that should have been in the movie(s) in the first place! I just ignore all of that stuff.

As for why Padme fell in love with Anakin besides the "bad boi" factor: There is a theory that he subconsciously manipulated her with the force when he couldn't get what he wanted.

27:10 yeah, this is why the prequels are better than the sequels. Because the bones are fantastic. But the execution wasn't great. The sequels, the bones are trash, but the execution was great. Like, what would you rather have, an apple that looks ugly, but tastes fine, or an apple that looks fine, but is rotten on the inside.

Who is the main character in the movie?? Why they don't go further into politics?? Pretty much both answer are the same. The Jedi council is the main character and the main antagonist in episode II. You can see how far tm their hand can reach and justify themselves... And how little they care about people until they can burocracy enough...
