When you bait a trap, it will take 5 hunger from the food you're using for the trap, or it will take 5 hunger from multiple items of the same food in your inventory. If your food doesn't have 5 hunger, you won't be able to use it as bait. After leaving the trap's 75 tile radius, every hour afterwards the game will roll to see if you've caught something, and then will roll to see if your trap gets broken or if your bait gets taken if you don't catch something. If you enter the 75 tile radius around the trap, the timer starts over from the beginning. _A trick to finding out if you're 75 tiles away is right click the ground and chose "walk." A small green box pops up that is exactly 1 tile. Count out 10 spaces using the box, and then put down a "Picket." A picket is made using 1 Plank and 1 Sheet Rope. Right click the ground and choose carpentry, and it's under "Misc." Make 7 of them and put one down every 10 tiles, and then one on the 75th tile. Make sure you stay out of this range of your trap._ If your trap does catch something, it will continue to roll every hour to see if the trap gets broken or the bait gets taken (basically the animal breaks free). This means it's better to check the trap every 2-3 hours after laying them, because the game will roll way more often for the animal to get free if your not there to grab it. Also, once the trap catches something, it makes noise and draws zombies who will break the trap and wait for you there, which is why you want to get the animal as soon as possible. It's best to set an alarm to take 2-3 hour naps throughout the day and night on the days you are trying to catch something, so can keep heading back to your traps with a flashlight during the night (the best time to catch big game). Once your trapping skill is high enough, you might not have to check traps as often because the animal won't be as likely to break free, especially with better traps.

The cage trap is unlocked trapping 3 and recipe book without starting trait, and it only requires one resource (5 units of wire). This makes them convenient as you can construct them right on sight without a need for tools or multiple heavy resources. Ideal for bug out bags or base relocation.

Trapping zombies like grave hole with spikes in it and other trapping styles for zombies...i would like to have those features in the future update (not mod)..its important to protect your base and some tin cans + strings to alert when some one/zombie trigger it....since the mechanic of this game already got what it need. Maybe when NPC (human + animal) with stories come...we will have a story mode with all those mechanic.

To be fair, even though rabbits/squirrels are the best animals to catch, farming can be quite a hassle if you don't have enough water to spare (if there isn't any well or natural water source nearby). So the easy way would be to place a whole lot of stick traps, forage for worms and watch the bird population become "none, reduced to atoms".

it's way easier now with the new foraging system to know in which zone you are. Stick traps ftw, work everywhere anytime and only need worms

i think it will still count as deep forest, but you can catch rabits and squirels in regular forest easily as well

Im playing on the latest IWBUMS build 41 version November 2021, how come in your game your trap boxes are proper 3D models but my trap boxes are the old 2D sprite models like in version 40.43? But all of the other objects are 3D.

if you didnt choose a profession that gives you the recipes, you need to find a magazine that will tell your character how to make the traps.

2 Log trees are regular trees, 3-4 log trees are taller, when you cut them down you will receive more than 2 logs, they are tall and easy to recognize

A mechanics guide would be very helpful. Its a pain to level up unless you want to change headlights and tires the rest of your life. As far as this guide went, I was really surprised that you can set multiple traps next to each other and it works. I've been putting my traps in 4 corners ~100 tiles from my main camp and been frustrated because I can't seem to catch anything. Something not discussed in this video was weather. I assume you cannot catch anything in the winter, right?

Just get the books, easy peasy. Then make 20 wood traps which is just planks and nails, toss cabbages in them. After 24 hours will have trapping 2. Just like that. Very easy to level if you farm.
